Before I was diagnosed with AIDS in 2012, I endured a SLEW of symptoms. A lot of these symptoms are very common for those who have been infected by HIV.
1. Lethargy
2. Weight Loss
3. Muscle Loss
4. Vertigo
5. Body Aches
6. Itchy Bumps
7. Bubbly Rash (Dyshidrotic Eczema)
8. Enlarged Lymph Nodes
9. Oral Thrush

What you should have is a national health service. Having to google to find out how to get seen by a doctor in the 21st century? wtf. I'm so glad i'm not living in the USA. Here in the UK rich or poor healthcare is free.

This part! It’s sad that on Twitter there are a bunch of people who make it seem like it’s ok to have HIV and if you don’t want to date/have sex with someone positive, you’re somehow a bad person. HIV treatment has had leaps and bounds of success from when it was first discovered, but that doesn’t mean that you should just be nonchalant about it.

Thanks for the video and you are so brave to speak about it publicly like this. It is so so very interesting to me to see how they ( the powers that be in America) are treating individuals of the general masses in relation to HIV/AIDS these days. These so called treatments which are being produced for pharmaceutical companies are actually bits and pieces of the actual cure though........ Just think about it guys..when was the last time you have seen or heard of HIV/ AIDS babies in America? The babies and kids ( as well as participants of certain research level program )always secretly got the cure here once the cure was created by a University in the early 1990s. Wake up guys don't allow big pharma and bureaucracy in America control your lives and destinies for corporate profits like this! contact your representation Washington and demand the laws be changed and or take big pharma down by changing the laws of this land and way things are done by yourselves.. They want you to live with the disease while they make money off of you. If you don't believe me then there is information out online now on this matter and you can also ask John Hopkins University Medical system about it as well as watching the PBS networks program called " The end of Aids".....The cure has been around for decades now guys and luckily some brave individuals came forward in 2016 ( time the Prince the singer died and those rumors AIDS on him went public even though he didn't actually have the disease or virus...) and this past year to try to tell the truth to the masses verses having to release their cures in small communist countries ( who have no political issues with it or big pharma corporations around to hide it) instead of America due to our politics, lack of of leadership within politics on the issue and lack of activity on the US citizens in mass of trying go to the truth and all hidden cures for particular diseases out there. The issue of certain demographics and communities being too reckless when it come to sexual activities is also an issue when it comes to anyone trying g to release cures in America so you guys have to be more responsible and have more respect and uphold integrity when it comes to human lives period if you truly want these cured out in mass more..In other words, you as a society have to responsible every day and you can't be reckless in life for the cures for a lot of things to be released to you.Otherwise I kind of agree with them by hiding so much of this stuff from you guys in certain demographics for you are too reckless with human beings lives on this planet and in life to be cured..And that society must earn it and how them they deserve it.

Mine started in 2010 or around there. Bed sweats. Every single night I’d wake up with my bed soaking wet - even if I used just a sheet. Then I popped up an egg sized lump in my neck. My doctor sent me to a surgeon that cut it out and biopsied it. I had DLBCL - stage 3 lymphoma. Since my cancer was stage 3 (meaning above and below my diaphragm) they estimated I had cancer for at least 5 years and had no clue. On my first visit with my oncologist, he told me that with that type of cancer, they always do an HIV test. I went back the following week to start chemo - and he told me that I was positive. Beyond that, if you have HIV with that cancer, you were considered to have AIDS. I had grown up in the age that an AIDS diagnosis meant certain death. I HAD THE BEST oncologist in the world, he rolled his chair over to me and said, “15 or 20 years ago, we’d have sent you home and told you to get your affairs in order, but now, you will end up just fine.” Then he grabbed my hands and looked at me straight in the eyes again, and said, “you are going to die someday. We all are, but you won’t be dying as long as I’m your doctor and NOT any time soon. Just do what your doctors tell you to do, and you’ll probably outlive me (I was 50 at the time).”

Try being a closeted teenager in the 80’s. I remember reading about this “gay cancer” that was killing only gay men. I worried throughout the 80’s that I had AIDS because I knew inside I was gay., and I wasn’t even sexually active! I constantly checked for spots in my mouth and on my skin. It was torture. I finally got a test in the late 80’s and you had to wait up to three weeks for results. Talk about anxiety! Needless to say, I was negative, joined the Air Force and didn’t come out until 1993. Waiting to come out saved my life. A lot of gay guys I met in the 90’s died, and so young. You couldn’t walk into a gay bar without seeing a memorial poster for whoever died that week. It was the big elephant in the room. Nobody ever talked about HIV. Unfortunately, I got complacent in the early 2000’s and became infected. I have to say that HIV saved my life. I was on the gay party train and couldn’t stop using ecstasy, coke and meth on the weekends. So stereotypical, right? I turned to drugs after a tragic death in my family. The drugs were consuming me, physically and financially. I tested positive in 2002, and I stopped the drugs cold turkey the day I found out my status. Back then, the thought was don’t take meds until you get close to having AIDS because the doctors didn’t want you to become immune to the meds and then die. My doctor let me get down to 350 T cells and then started the cocktail in 2007. Now they’ve changed course and treat the infection right away. They just didn’t know enough at the time. I’ve been undetectable for 11 years now, but do have some liver issues from the meds. I also became diabetic which is common among HIV patients. But I enjoy life and feel pretty good. I’m so glad that the darkness of so much death has been halted by modern medicine. If only the government had cared more in the beginning, we would have prevented so many deaths. Take care and have a wonderful life!

Hey Raif, I’m a medical student and I’m currently learning about HIV/AIDS. Your video is very interesting and inspiring. You seem very comfortable with your diagnosis and happy in general, and I am happy for you because it seems like you have been able to overcome this. The disease has come a long way since the 1980s, but It still needs more attention in order to remove the negative stigma behind it. I wish you the best of luck!

Each person has a different journey. There are some that have additional barriers to figure out. I believe back in the 80"s and 90"s drugs and alcohol was a big part in the lifestyle. It is possible that then individuals coping and escape skills included un resolved hurt and pain from their past. Today society and communities has more to offer resulting in healthier lifestyles. If you are one of these individuals seek support. Build support.

@@JohnFuse-r3qas a gay man I can tell you that drugs and alcohol are still a huge part of the lifestyle, at least they are in my home city of Oklahoma City. I am not into drugs or alcohol and don’t do either. Sex was my Achilles heel. I am now HIV+ after letting my guard down about 15 months ago with someone I always liked and got the opportunity to date him when he broke up with his former bf. Anyways it’s a big price to pay and I do have some regrets but I’m on HIV medication and it seems to be working. I don’t judge anyone anymore.

However this gentleman proves the fact that when you are a server or in another job that does not pay enough or offer healthcare seeing a doctor is much harder to do. Seeing a doctor the minute something seems off about your body is a privilege that many good people don't have. When you are poor you get good at rationalizing things that keep you from spending money. Yes dear Raif should have seen a doctor earlier but for poor guys it is not easy to do. Please understand!

I'm a ,medical student getting a ready to write my board exam. These are the signs of HIV...at first you feel ok, then you feel weak and crash, then you recover and finally your overall health goes down. What HIV does is destroys your cd4+ cells. It's not HIV that causes problems, its opportunities infections that develop because your immune system has weakened so much. There are good drugs available now and life expectancy and near normal...but still. You all need to take precautions.

I was diagnosed in 2006, but once I was diagnosed, I knew exactly when I got it. I didn't really have specific symptoms with the exception that I kept getting the flu. Normally, I would get the flu once a year. but since 2004, I would get it once every two months, then once a month, then twice a month until the end of October 2006 on Halloween, my temp soared up to 105degF then down, then up again within a couple of hours. Then I started having trouble breathing. I didn't have health insurance or a job, but I am a Veteran, so I managed to drive myself to the VA Hospital in Atlanta. They ended up admitting me and that is when I found out first that I had Pneumococcal Pneumonia, and then HIV. I ended up spending over a month in the hospital.

Sold house and travelled the world thinking it was all over. Now teaching in a classroom in a local highschool in Sydney at the age of 71 and no symptoms. Gained 4 degrees from uni in that time However the journey was sad. Lost so many good friends and colleagues.

I did not take meds for 10 years. In those 10 years I went from hiv to aids. In those 10 years I got shingles. I got bronchitis. I got pneumonia. My tcells went from 400 (in 2010) to 10 (in 2020). I lost allot of weight. When I took the meds in 2020 my tcells went up and I got undetectable. Although sometimes the meds make my sides hurt and I have this layer of bell fat.

Ima say it. You are a brave guy and even though as a straight female i am at lower risk - I thoroughly appreciate you educating people by sharing your own personal experiences. I fully respect you for this edit: love how everyone except the person this comment was actually for has a problem with what I said :p

Lol being a straight female doesn’t make you lower risk at all. Look at new diagnosis in the last 5 years straight people get diagnosed more often than gay people now - don’t live in false security !

This kind of videos make me so sad because here in Venezuela, due to the economical crisis we've been facing lately, thousands of 0+ people die every year because the lack of medicines, I've lost amazing friends. On the other hand, I'm so glad still are brave people like you who share their experiences and knowledge with the rest of the world. Thank you, you are truly a role model. Blessings and greetings to you.

Brother, your comment made my heart heavy too. I'll do everything I can to help in any way that I can...I posted this comment to my story and someone saw this and is contacting a friend who works for AHF (Aids Health Fund) and they're going to investigate to see if there is anything they can do to help the situation in Venezuela. Much love and blessings to you my friend. Thank you for making the situation there known 🙏

This is a wonderful video. An important point to remember is it if you have tested HIV negative ,it means your HIV negative today. You may still have been infected and not have produced antibody response ;or you may still become infected in the future. If you are in a high-risk group, please retest every 12 weeks. Help and treatment are available everywhere. Get tested ;get help ;get treated.

Toneka Halo Bovell ur not scared of the test. Ur scared of a positive result. But the fact is, if ur positive and ur NOT getting tested then ur also NOT getting treatment and every day that goes by ur body is in worse and worse condition. Ur only harming urself by not getting tested. And if u are negative. Then U’ll at the very least relieve urself of the anxiety of worrying about it. Do urself the favor and self respect of getting tested! 👊🏽

That's because knowledge is a burden. When you know something you feel pressure to act. "Knowing your status" is no different.

You’re going to be fine Raif. I’m getting up there in age and have many friends make it. Today things are different with so many drugs available for different stages. Prayers work also buddy. How about we all with positive comments put Raif on our prayer list. It’s works too.

I think this is why getting tested with your sexual partner is so important! Who cares if they get mad you’re making sure not only your health is protected but also your partners . I can’t relate because I’ve never had sex before but when the time comes I’m definitely going to my pcp to get tested with him .

Hyphocondriac people will go to the ER for minor scratches. You are the totally opposite before your HIV diagnosis with all of those symptoms you experienced. This is really helpful and i admire your courage. Keep safe.

Even if I'm in a "Good monogamous relationship" I get myself tested bc ppl aren't as always loyal as they should be. Getting tested next Wednesday. No symptoms but had unprotected sex s few times, it would be my/his fault. God bless you.
