Hey David, this is my first time ever commenting on KZbin. I'm new to bees, so I spend hours on KZbin trying to learn from other bees Keepers. I wanted to tell you thank you for the great videos and for sharing your information to others. I'm just now getting my hive going so I haven't had to deal with beetles yet, but now I know what to look for and how to treat them because of you. Thank you again.

Bees do a good job heating a five frame hive better than ten frame hive. Extremely efficient for younger bees. I like it. Bees are flying out and doing good. Still lot of snow on the ground. Protect your bees from frost and wind best you can. Beetles are not a problem during this time of year. Good video.

Had them pretty bad in one yard last year due to lack of diligence on deadouts. Basically made my own problem. What helped end it: Gordon's permethrin 10 livestock and premise spray. I mixed up gallon jugs of the stuff and drenched the ground around each hive with 2 gallons. Repeated every two weeks. Did it at night. That and beatle traps worked. It was ugly. One good hive was overcame ...absconded. From now on I'm treating yards with permethrin.

Hey David! Great video! My brother Sam and I will be using this method this Spring to try control our hive beetle problem! We use Diatomaceous Earth last fall but fear that's not enough. We were delighted to see you video and have already ordered our CD jewel case and Boric Acid powder...of course we have plenty of Crisco!

Great idea. I always wondered if boric acid would work on shb. It's one of the oldest treatments for regular cockroaches here in the south and it's safe for humans. Unfortunately our inspector told us nothing is allowed for pest control inside the hive except what has been approved. I specifically asked about boric acid and he didn't say no but repeated "nothing except what has been approved" so I guess it's up to the inspector. I use beetle blasters too. Work great. I always read about the Hood Trap and wanted to try one but could never find them.

Crisco is a brand name, what he's referring to is just cooking shortening. Just cooking grease. Boric acid is, well, boric acid. It's generally used for crawling insects like roaches. It's not actually a poison, it kill bugs in a different way.

And waxworms*
@khaskin183 жыл бұрын
So could I freeze the frames them put them right back on the hive? do I need to clean them? Let them rob the frames?
@andrewrodriguez73102 жыл бұрын
@@3_up_moon I had read this too, and froze frames infested with SHB larvae for 2+ months. I took them out thinking surely everything is dead and placed them on a table outside during the summer. Days went by, maybe even a couple weeks and that bag of frames (tied shut) that had been frozen for all that time had tons of larvae squirming around, both small and big. So I don't know exactly why this is being shared as a working remedy.

dang, that's another thing I forgot, where's those gloves... who wears gloves?? I think it took me about 2 times into the hives before I realized that with the FAT FINGERS, it was hard to manipulate the frames gently.. worst thing about not wearing gloves is the propolis, man that stuff is sticky.. I use them if the girls act up, but like my smoker, they mostly sit to the side until needed... I'm even getting forgetful with my veil, and that was just the 1st season
@Josh-fy2sv6 жыл бұрын
Dianna Boykin I part time volunteer for my community for bee keeping and these bees might be friendly but I went in with no gloves and no protection and got swarmed as I opened the hive, it was like they knew I was coming to harvest there honey lol, I just don’t want that to happen to this fine gentleman
@diannaboykin76286 жыл бұрын
HONEY HARVEST is a different animal with most beekeepers, even guys I never see with protection, will suit up, several HEAD TO TOE, to harvest... the bees can get a little upset with someone walking off with their stores... where, this is just general manipulation, and most of the girls are OK with that, and David has some of the calmest bees I see on videos.. Thank You for your volunteering
