HK USP extended magazine release install

I love how people rant and rave about Glocks and M&P's as being the best polymer framed pistols but if you ask me H&K is king of them all as far as I'm concerned. Hell most people don't even know H&K had Glock beat by like 12 years with a poly framed handgun! Great vid btw I subbed.

You may want to note that this being a great option is ONLY for STEEL magazines. This will not work with the polymer magazines as they fall out. There is actually a disclaimer about this on H&K's website. Great tutorial, thanks for sharing how easy it is to swap.

Bullitt 006 Yes.The extended release will only work on the USP45, or the USP9 WITH JET FUNNEL MAGS. Regular USP9 or USP40 mags will get chewed up real quick.

This will work with polymer mag with some modification, grip the aluminum tab in a vice and gently hit the polymer portion with a small hammer to increase the contact between the mag catch and the mag release

Taken directly from HK website in case anyone was on the fence about purchasing. Please Take Note: That although this mag release will fit all of the HK models listed above this is not an approved modification by HK. This new style magazine release has a steel insert. That makes contact with the magazine catch notch. And if installed on a USP pistol using polymer magazines. The steel contact point can eventually dig into the polymer magazine and cause the magazine fitment to become loose and possibly for mags to fall out. HK does not approve this modification especially for L.E. use.

Thanks for the video. I had purchased an extended mag release for my USP45 from HKParts.net a couple of weeks ago and had yet to install it. I started a minute into your video and had it complete before the end. That's what I call good instruction! Thankfully I had recently purchase a couple of Lyman punch sets -- one for $15 and the other for $23. These are must haves for little tasks like this. They made it a much simpler task. Will definitely sub now.

Thanks for the video. I used a credit card instead of a razor blade to hold the spring in and it worked great. And i didn't have a punch so i just used an oversized paperclip to punch out the roll spring.

Excellent. I'll be changing the mag releases to extended on my USP9 compact and P2000 very soon. A bumbling curmudgeon like myself may want to put it in a see through plastic bag so if everything goes WHEEEE the bag will retain it. A dab of grease on the spring end in the release may help clumsy oafs like myself too. Great video. Thanks.

Did this for my USP9 before this video was even made. Haven't had any issues with the mags falling out. Maybe there was a change made after that.

You think I can use another model magazine for the compact 40..have you seen a magazine larger than its original 12R?

I did this mod. on my USP .40 (before I went to the Expert) I had issues with mag. retention but only with fully loaded 16 roud mags. the metal "prong" on the 45c didn't play well with the plastic mag bodies. the extra weight of the jet funnels made it worse. I tried to replicate the contour of the original plastic release but couldn't make it work. went back to stock.

Anybody have a tip or solution for my fat middle finger blocking the mag release under the trigger guard as I try to press it with down with my thumb? New to HK, I already swapped out the smaller mag release on my p2000sk to the slightly extended one found on their other pistols but still have the same issue where my middle finger under the trigger guard works against me trying to push it down on the other side with my thumb. Any ideas would be appreciated as I would like to be able to eject the magazine without adjusting grip like everything else I own. XL glove size, not sure that matters. Other than that I love this little thing.

I'm a lefty but I actually use my middle finger on my shooting hand to drop the mag instead of my thumb.

What part # I got a part # 50234296 and it doesn’t fit into the frame as its base is too wide for my HK P2000 LEM?

A P2000 is a compact size frame so it won't fit these fullsize mags.

My magazine will latch in, but it seems to not seat firmly (there is a little play in the magwell.) Any idea what that could be? They are factory 12rd mags for the USP45.

so the only problem with this upgrade is by using a plastic magazine where the magazine release will not lock completely and the magazine will fall out but the steel magazines work 100%??? I'm looking to buy a few to upgrade my usp's and they use the metal magazines.

Great detailed video! Do you recommend that the roll pin be replaced when doing this upgrade? On the HKparts website it says to replace any pin that's removed with a new one. Is it worth the extra few bucks for a pin? Thanks and great video! Plan to use this when I do the upgrade :)

I bought a new one, but re-used my old one. If you take it out more than 1-2 times it should probably be replaced. OR, if you the gun is for duty use, replace.

Yes. I think the extended version is metal and the factory one is plastic. So in a 45 when it locks up with steel magazines, it makes a little different sound.

No extended release on the Mark 23. Although it's the the same size as these extended ones already. The newer guns like the P30 already have much larger releases so thing is mostly a USP thing. Same lever for the 9,40, and 45.

I don't think anyone makes a magazine that large for a compact. I know promag makes some extended mags for the 45 ACP, but I don't know about the .40.
