Joey is who I bought my shocks from at the Sturgis rally a few years back. The shocks are killer!! Been on two different bikes since I bought them. Still perform like they did when new. Joey is a great representative of Ohlins and I stop in to see him at all the major rallies every year. Every year at Sturgis I have him service my shocks and after they're done it's like brand new shocks all over. Congrats Tall. Great choice!!!!!

Yep, Joey knows what he's talking about! If I ever trade bikes, the ohlins is coming with me! Just curios, what does he do to service them? Thanks for watching.
@richardedwin59805 жыл бұрын
Traveling Tall...the Ohlins shocks need to be service about every 25K miles. During the service they remove/replace all the fluids and replace every moving part inside the shock as well as seals etc. You can either send them to Ohlins, go there or catch up with them at a rally where they'll slap a loaner set on your bike, service your shocks then put em back on for you the next day or the same day. They'll set up the loaner shocks just like yours. Costs about $200. A lot of folks probably don't do it and never have an issue. But I'm a maintenance stickler and make sure all the needed services are done. Take care of the bike and it'll take care of you I say.
@itssobreezy5 жыл бұрын
@@TravelingTall we completely disassemble the shocks, inspect, clean, reassemble them with new seal heads, piston rings, new oil and nitrogen. Internally they will be like new. We are able to provide this service at rallys. $250 for the service. Thanks Richard and Tall!!

You don't realize how bad the HD factory shocks are until you change them out. If you are going to put on miles, spend the money to upgrade the suspension especially the rear shocks. On the touring line, go with the 13" rear shocks for the supreme ride. Some say you don't need to change out the front for 2017+ models & I agree. I might change out at my 50,000 service depending on how much $$.

I had a set of Ohlins on my 15 RG. The ride was incredible. They were a pain in the butt to adjust the pre-load every time I took my wife out though. I finally settled on a setting that was a bit soft with her on the bike and a touch stiff solo. You need to keep the threads for the pre-load collars super clean or they bind up. The ride quality is night and day better than stock.

I have Legends Revo-A shocks on my SGS 19. I have similar results. It’s pretty cool that you have a spring for your weight so you have perfect initial sag and have maximum flexibility staring from your weight. That’s an advantage I believe Ohlins offers of Legend. I echo what everyone is saying. You will see a dramatic difference in upgrading your suspension. Don’t go cheap either on the shock change and it’s just as important to setup initially for you weight based on instructions provided. The experience is very different based on setup. This upgrade is about $900 ish depending on what you decide but over stock you will not be disappointed. Thanks Tall for another awesome video and good mix of education and fun.

People always complain about the SG series having crappy shocks but what I don’t understand is why did you buy it in it’s slammed self then? The whole slammed look comes at the price of reduced shock travel Doh! My 2019 EGS is set up the same way and I knew I’d be swapping the shocks for some 13” shocks, one of the reasons I shopped hard for a year for this bike was I knew this going in. I bought this bike with 2k miles on it for about 6k+ less than buying it brand new because to me buying off the showroom floor is just silly. You are gonna lose thousands of dollars the minute you sign and leave the dealership parking lot so let someone else take that hit, especially if you are gonna modify. Love your mods Tall.
@BrandonWest8711 ай бұрын
I bought new because I know of all the goofy nonsense people do to bikes, how lackluster their maintenance habits are, how most of them are all “intake and exhaust!” without ever tuning it (which results in a lean and hot condition frying exhaust valves and seats), how most are piss-poor at clutch control and burn up clutch packs, on and on and on. I do all my own work and have been down the rabbit hole of used vehicles. Some folks are REALLY good about hiding damage and poor maintenance habits. Buying used is a crapshoot, sometimes it works out in your favor and it’s a great vehicle for a great price that just needs typical new suspension, brakes, and consumables (like my Navigator I picked up for $15k, that thing is a beast), or it can be like the 04 Civic I picked up which had the wrong ATF in it, never had the transmission fluid changed, suspension bushings were shot, speakers were shot, headliner started sagging, tires were horrible, brake fluid was never flushed, coolant never flushed, etc. New prevents the exercise of discovering all of that and sometimes, I just wanna buy it and ride it without worrying.

13'ers are the way to go! The Ohlins reps are the best. Always available, helpful and knowledgeable. He’s the literal Ohlins factory tech. I’d trust him to install suspension stuff on my bike way more than a dealership.

-What about the front end? -HD should use Öhlins instead of their stock crap, especially for what they charge for the bikes. My Ultra Limited rides about as rough as my Vrod!!

I heard through the grapevine that a front shock is coming very soon.

Check out Big Bear performance for a 30mm Ohlins fork tube kit that performs just like the Ohlins inverted front end

@@johnbrewer8882 I have a new 23 Road Glide Limited which uses Showa’s Dual Bending Valve system in the forks. Coming off a 21 Goldwing I gotta tell you, this thing feels like a friggin boat. My wife even commented on how it feels like a jet ski when I do a repeat roll on, roll off, roll on, on the throttle. I can hold the brake and compress the forks down several inches sitting still. As of ‘23, the suspension still pretty much claps out on highway bumps.

Couldn't find the model number in the comments? Care to share which shocks you upgraded to?

Totally off topic, what seat is that and how do you like it?

How much of a height difference was it for you on the seat? At 5’7”, I am far from Traveling Tall and I don’t want to jump off a SGS at a red light, lol.
@BrandonWest8711 ай бұрын
I’m 5’6” on a good day and bang around on a Road Glide Limited (stock 13” shocks) without any real issue. It’s an absolute bear to back up compared to the 21 Goldwing I traded it for, so I’m much more cautious of how I park, but that’s the only difference.

Did they install yours for the vlog or is that what they do for all? I’d love mine done on my 17 SG
