Do you use a different software for 3D printing

I use Tinkercad the most, but I do use Sketchup (my.sketchup.com) as well.

Can plastic be used instead of cardboard? Being into model railroading, this would be cool way to make custom buildings.
@HLModTech3 жыл бұрын
Yes. As long as you can cut it in your laser cutter you could use any material.I pick cardboard as a teacher because it's a free resource and it's just fun for kids to build with. Then the only modification to the project would be Make your tabs the size of your material. Instead of the 4 mm I use all the time.

Hello, I’m having trouble finding a source for 4mm cardboard. Can you help?

I would head to a grocery store with a caliper. The get oodles of boxes. The other option would be to measure the boxes you get... then mod the project to fit them. I need to measure a standard amazon box someday. 🤔 Lord knows I always have tons of those. Of course my boxes are from the lunch room here at school.

@@HLModTech I do most of my work with a 3D printer (My ender 3) I’m considering get a laser to expand my tool set. Do you have any recommendations?

@@jakelong6359 I have really enjoyed my OMT 55W. Half the price, more power and if something goes wrong I can get in there and fix it. On the other hand... if something goes wrong I have to get in there and fix it. With the Glowforge if something goes wrong you have to ship it to them. What are you hoping to cut?

@@HLModTech probably plywood maybe at most 1/4 inch thick. I like the idea of making puzzles and 3D models that I can snap together. I know I can do this stuff with a 3D printer, but I feel a laser cutting would be quicker. Plus it would give me the option to work with new material. I would also like to try my hand at designing a balsa wood plane.

@@jakelong6359 Those are all great projects. I did cut some 1/4 inch stuff that was given to me. Reminds me of luan, but I cannot guarantee it.

I am having a hard time getting the roof tabs to perfectly align across on top of the house. They both turn brown but I'm getting a blue line that goes maybe 1/4 of the way across the tab. Any advice?
@meganhjorth38783 жыл бұрын
not totally sure what I did different but its working now 😅
@HLModTech3 жыл бұрын
I have seen that in my classroom as well. One trick I am working on is to subtract the tabs instead of adding them. It always works...Just need time to make the vid. 😜
