Thanks Frank and Angie. I am reminded of the folly of how the RAM promotes expat life with the saying: "Whereever you go, there you are"

People in these Latin American countries are generally very poor and they live on a lot less money than say Americans do. So a Gringo walking around looks like an ATM walking around meaning you could get robbed or charged Gringo prices, however not necessarily. You just have to remember the general population is living in poverty and everyone is looking for a way to get some money (just like in the USA). I once went into a little store in Mexico and bought some stuff and the elderly man gave me back the incorrect change however he undercharged me a lot (because he got confused) so I told him the mistake and paid the posted prices.

Yes, that happens a lot and even in the stores with fixed prices in Mexico, the till keeps overcharging us. You really got to watch when they ring the groceries up and when you go to the Mercado you should know the local prices ahead of time so you will be ahead of the game. Thanks for sharing that. Take care.

So true. In Thailand, one of my favorite n markets always has Chinese tourists conning through. It feels a little disrespectful as they film everything and hardly buy anything. The guide just shows them the variety... all the while some of the 80 year old vendors can hardly survive. I would say that there are still good ones but they can't have expats at all. I saw it similarly in Costa Rica.

Can one bring seeds when moving abroad to grow basics like tomatoes, ginger, garlic, etc? TIA!

It depends on where you're going. You need to check the regulations before your trip-- regulations and laws change all the time. Thanks for watching.

Excellent very true video about marcado prices. Also , work in medical, and I am always shocked that the mexicans dont know that the scented toilet paper is a large cancer causing deal. That perfume is not naturally produced but chemically induced. You wipe your privates with that, residue can remain over time in your privates and over time induce cancer of the colon and or rectum, It is very important to buy the toilet paper without ! perfume, though it can be hard to find, here they say that walmarts mex, carries also non perfumed toilet paper but i was also able to find it in the marcados, even labeled, non perfumed, ;; in my house i have perfumed for the mexican visitors as they liike that and i have non perfumed for myself. Think later on how many cancer cases there are going to be in these private areas of thousands of mexicans/ on this topic they also permit still dyes and chemicals in their food long banned in the usa and europe (I I am German),. Not to mention that pepsi and coke have sucralosa in them in mexico but they wouldn t dare put it in non diet coke or pepsi in the usa or europe because sucralosa is aknown excito toxic to the brain inducing dementia over time. Even yogurts and much else have sucralosa in mexico but the common people dont know not to buy it, Its very sad what they do to the common person in mexico between cancer causing toilet paper and sucralosa dementia causing in so many foods/ . My favorite juices in Mexico have now been remodeled and ruined and now have sucralosa also in them, so I had to stop buying that brand. The quality of the food and items on offer are very low quality in Mexico often if you are knowledgeable about ingredients like I am . Why does the mexican government permit so many additives into the food here now when they well know these are known cancer causing agents? Why permit victimization o f their own people? In Germany these would never be tolerated. You dont need sucralosa in the plain yogurt when yiou are already adding sugar. Yoiu cant even find Trader Joe quality in Mexico ( another German owned store in the USA though most Americans dont know its German owned and run !) Thats why TJ does not allow bad additives and sucralosa as they are not permitted in Germany. So as this couple well points out with the toilet paper, buyer beware in Mexico and read labels well. //For shopping here in Guadalajara I go to 2 marcados where I am the only foreigner. I speak Spanish and know all the real non gringoized prices. If they try to enforce on me the "white face tax" I say I well know the real price , dont abuse me and cheat me, then they back down and apologize and say they didnt know I speak Spanish so well , then they offer the real price. If you dont like the gringoized price just walk on by and look otherwise. This is an excellent video telling the real truth. Walmarts Mexico , down the road from me, is much much more expensive than Walmarts USA. How shocking is that. ??? Walmarts Mexico may have a good selection but the prices in Walmarts Mexico are through the roof. Buyer beware. It is NOT cheaper than home but more expensive, case closed ! Kind regards from Guadalajara where I have been in and out of for 46 years so I must know how to do it inexpensively, Saludos : RM .

Same in the Philippines. Try to find non perfumed rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer. 2L Coke sugar with sucralose.....and on and on
