Why did they have to scrap such a beautiful and outstanding ship, I don't care of it is old and outdated, the ship should've been a museum today along with Rodney.

Like all the other battleships and other warships they were scrapped and not kept as museum ships due to cost, it costs a fortune to maintain a large ship and moor it somewhere.

HMS Rodney certainly should have been saved. Warspite too. Yes, it would have cost a lot to keep in preservation but worth every penny. HMS Belfast is an impressive ship, but just imagine what a Battleship sat on the Thames would be like.

Fun fact about these 2 magnificent ships, they both had a nickname because they looked like oil tankers. Nelsol and rodnol

The reason Britain scrapped all its battleships is simple Britain was broke the war had put her in so much debt she could noongar maintain the number of ships in the navy and she needed steel to rebuild I agree they could have saved one but the government thought otherwise the pity of it all is that now with a socialist government Britain is finished as a seat of democracy and the men that fought and died defending her are to be forgotten as the country is invaded

Laughed when I saw the 2 rowers going faster than the Nelson.

It was a slow ship. But all the more impressive that it managed to achieve so much in WW2.

That was some pretty intense rowing. Perhaps the film was speeded up, like other old movies.

Unique in its design. All 9 16 inch guns forward of the superstructure to save weight for the Washington treaty.

Typical of us to abide to a treaty knowing full well others would not..

@@dazt103 For the U.S. also. The South Dakota's did have 9-16 in. guns, but were small and terribly compact to save weight for the treaty. They were like the "compact car" of Battleships! The North Carolina was just an elarged version.

@@denniscostabile4264no if anything the South Dakota's were a small version of the Showboat, as they came later

Some here describing it as "Graceful", Beautiful"... I thought it strange looking. "Graceful", Beautiful" belongs to the unfortunate HMS Hood.
