Wow. Wonderful to see HMS Prince of Wales coming into Portsmouth under her own power. It’s quite amazing to think that she still isn’t anywhere near ready yet. You could fool me, just looking at the whole of her outside. We’ll have to wait just a little bit longer, but it’ll be so worth it when we see both of our mighty aircraft carriers, the greatest in the world now, sailing side-by-side out to sea to further express the reach and influence of our Royal Navy and other Armed Forces.

@Kakarot64.5 жыл бұрын
Or name it after one of the pre invincible class carriers that would have become the original queen elizabeth class if their ship building program wasn't cancelled in the 60's alongside the T82 Destroyer program. HMS Duke Of Edinburgh
@LizardYup5 жыл бұрын
I mean there is. But if we had a third ship there simply wouldn't be enough other ships to make a full carrier strike group, we'd need more type 45s when there are only 6. There was originally meant to be 12 but they were cut :/
@daniellastuart31455 жыл бұрын
if there is a 3rd it be HMS Duke of York or HMS Royal Sovereign which would keeping in line with the ship names for the class of ship they more even go for KG 6, king gorge 6 the other two are more likely. but i would lay money on HMS Duke of York considering the duke of York is a tilted often given to the 3rd in line to the crown .

Now add SeaRam, and another order for more 31s and 26s whilst we are there to support them.
@tonkerdog12435 жыл бұрын
Ben Liley I agree. But it’ll take decades for them to decide where to put it, whilst these things tour around the planet effectively naked. At least they could bolt on SeaRam whilst they argue amongst themselves.
@tonkerdog12435 жыл бұрын
Ben Liley If my kids were on it, I’d not give a hoot where the gear comes from to be honest. But to rely on 2 Phalanx which a lot of folk from the navy now believe is outdated by new missile designs, is crazy. They’ll never fit Sea Sceptor on these, like they’ll not give the Type 31s a Surface to surface weapon. Too many old farts living in the past in scenario based worlds, which inevitably fall apart the moment fighting starts.
@tonkerdog12435 жыл бұрын
Ben Liley And if those escorts are knocked out? Look at the Falkland when the few Type 22s and their sea wolf missiles were kept very close to the carriers, for goalkeeping activities. Just imagine if they’d been knocked out. Plan for the worst, and hope for the best. I’d put SeaRam on the RFA ships too just like Americans and Japanese do. Every conceivable platform would have to play its part in the overall defence. This is what the US puts on its carriers....”The weaponry includes RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles, Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAMs) and Phalanx close-in weapon system (CIWS).” And that’s a navy with unlimited resources as escorts.

Impressive looking but a shame about the total lack of proper defensive systems. Every other carrier operator on earth mounts point defense missile systems on their ships. I the suppose the geniuses in the British Mod know better than every other navy in the world. Probably only to be proved wrong by massive deaths of British sailors in the future.

Leave it to the person who obviously knows nothing about naval engineering. Naval ships have some of the best thermal efficiency possible for an internal combustion engine. Some exceeding 50% compared to cars at 20%. No for of propulsion outside of nuclear is going to be particularly environmentally friendly but that's not the point of these ships!
