I have been addicted to your channel since the Montanes. This the most intricate model yet. I'm curious to see why there are three stem pieces and how the anchors are made of Lazer cut wood. Also to watch you make sails from scratch. I can hardly wait.

It will take a few months before i begin this one :) I do not know about making the sails , i will probably use a pack of sails that have been already made, but i can promise you that this one will be one of the best if not the best one!!!

I remember being struck by the ship's surgeon deck that was painted with red paint with sand in it to disguise the blood and keep men from slipping. And they had a statue figure of Nelson dying at the spot where he died. For those who don't know, Admiral Nelson is the figure at the top of the column in Trafalgar Square. He died on the Victory in the battle of Trafalgar. Russell Crowe mentions him in Master and Commander. Famous for losing an arm. Anyway, a little history on this ship!

@@WarrenFahyAuthor Yes i know the history, the fought the Spanish - French fleet on 1805 and the British won. What helped a lot was that the British were very well trained and they could fill up and fire the cannons in 90 seconds!

In the town I lived in until a couple of weeks ago there was a restaurant that had a model of Cutty Sark in the window. Always stopped to watch it when I walked by it. Very cool ship. Nice yo see you reviewing a Billing ship - as a fellow scandinavian that is great to see! I kind of have dream to see you build the Vasa ship in the future 🙂 By the way; archeologists in Sweden recently found the wreck of ”Äpplet” (the Apple) - a sister ship of the well known Vasa. She is going to be great! Santa Ana who was approximately the same size and lever of detail took me 8 and a half, Montanes took me 11 +, i think this one is between 8+ to 12, but it is too early to know :)

Nice puppy. Nice model. I am 3D printing the test parts for the 1/200 scale Romulan Warbird for The Original Series. I saw a scratch build for a 1/72 scale Victory once. I have bought a 1/100 scale plastic model of the ship but like the 1/96 scale model of the Constitution I just never took the time to tie the rigging. Look forward to your build logs. I’m fairly certain you can get a sail set from Mantua in almost the correct size. Otherwise you would have to make them yourself. You can get lifeboats from model ships ways. Looking forward to the build, it’s a nice kit, it has some issues tho, I think, so I spend a lot of time customising the build like double planking and copper plates for the hull. Took a month to complete, but well worth it..I also weathered mine, so it would become green - ish It always bugged me I didn’t put lights in, because you can do some really cool stuff in the stern section, furnitures, paintings and stuff, that you’re able to see through the windows due to the size of the ship.. Looking very much forward to seeing the build, while I continue with my own version.. 😃

Yes i have in mind the Mantua sails kit and one more. The scale is almost the same. I am not in the sewing business, so i can probably make a couple of sails but no way i can make the all! This one will be made in cooperation with Billing Boats so some more goods are on the way :) We have around 4 months before i begin this one :)

John it seems to me that I've seen you use paints in a can. Are they by chance paints by Revelle of Germany? What colors do use more frequently than others on the ships. Just thinking about increasing variety of colors. I will probably start watching you build Bounty again real soon. Almost ready to take ger off the shelf.

In this one i use mostly acrylic paints that comes with the kit. For the airbrush i use only acrylic. For the paint brush i use enamel from Humbrol.

I'm excited that no gloss varnish will be used! Realistic appearance should be prioritized over practicality. The result will be worth it. I like Billing Boats kits, but the plans for all the rigging are always lacking in detail. I am extremely looking forward to these videos of the entire construction, I will not miss a single part. Just for your information, the boats that the ships carried on those men of war on down to brigs and sloops were not referred to as life boats. They were considered utility boats and all had different names and functions, and yes If the ship was sinking they in a sense could be used as life boats, but they were never placed on board for that reason. They used them in port to transport people, and supplies to and from the ship, and in war they put the captains, Fine China, and property in the boats and tied them up in a little line behind the ships before they engaged in action. It was considered un-sporting for a ship to shoot at these boats during a battle.

If you have FB join me, i am way ahead of the video and you will love the deck, also the gunports! Economy is bad, everything is expensive. For instance, gas is around 1.90 per liter. A couple of years ago you wanted around 300-350 for the supermarket for groceries to last one month, now you need 500 for the same amount of groceries...

I cannot tell you at the moment if she is hard or easy to make. The kit has a lot of laser cut boards, this means that many pieces are ready and makes the build easier, i really do not know the lever of experience that this kit needs.

Hello John, I've just come across your channel so apologies for the late comments. Firstly, the Building Slip provided is a great idea and should be followed by other wooden-ship model makers. If you were building a real wooden boat/ship, you would start with what's known as a Strongback to hold the frames in a steady position so that the planking can be done. Secondly, I've often thought about adding copper plates to the hull, instead of just painting it a metallic copper. But what's put me off is the tendency of copper to rapidly tarnish so that you end up with a verdigris colour. Are you worried about this; if so, how might you go about ensuring this doesn't happen? A protective coat of some type to stop the copper reacting with oxygen perhaps? Finally, you will no doubt be aware that the yellow colour on the sides of the Victory have been called into question as not being accurate historically. The Victory as it's on display now has been repainted and now has what's more a salmon-pink colour instead of the yellow. It's fair to say that public opinion is greatly divided on this matter. But if it's seen to be more historically accurate, and you wish it to be so, will you be doing the same? Thank you for your channel!

Welcome Aboard Jose!!! Take your time and check it out, i have more that 500 videos and many completed series including the HMS Victory. About your question for the copper plates. I have varnish them with clear gloss varnish to hide the glue marks and also to protect them from turning green. About the color, i do not like at all the new pinky color. I love the yellow-orange that i have painted it and what matters to me is that to like the outcome :)

The copper plates and 5 boats will be send to me without cost. This is a build in cooperation with Billing Boats. I asked for some things and they were very kind to provide them. I haven't got the boats and the plates yet. After i have received them they probably will have them for sale.

I'll start buying ship models again when manufacturers quit making yet another iteration of a handful of vessels. I'm bored beyond words by yet another Victory, or Constitution, or Titanic, when there are so many equally interesting ships that have never been kitted, ever. How can you stand making the same ships over and over and over???

1st of all i do not make the same ship over and over. I had made the Victory 19 years ago, and this one is a better one with much much more detail. And i will build it the way i like it to please me, so maybe it's Victory but it is different. Also you have to know that the ships of 17th and 18th century weren't infinite, so of course the companies will make the same models to compete to each other, each an open market. If you are in this hobby you should buy and make one, you will feel joy and you will love what you are doing. Then you will discover that the model are not the same.

You should do more research, there are hundreds of model kits available. I suggest that you build one before yuou start making comments.
