Hey Ken, it's Ken, I'm keeping an eye on your engineering as I plan on doing something similar on my layout not really ski lift, but similar to a hanging caged basket at the fairgrounds that went from one end of our massive Fairgrounds to the other. If memory serves me correct, you could get off on the other end or you could go for as many laps as you wanted as long as they didn't get too busy. when I was a young boy it was one of the few rides I could go on. Now I'm not even sure it exists anymore. But it will on my layout for two reasons: 1) it fits in the era that I am modeling and 2) because it's my layout! Just subscribed to your Channel I haven't even checked it out yet, but will be doing that next and looking forward to seeing how you accomplish this engineering feat!

Love the 3d printer. I'm still not sure about the chain, too me it looks bulky, so maybe some type of cord. Which is closer to cable size.

The 3 D printing holds promise. Another KZbin channel that I follow gave their son a 3 D printer for a Christmas printer a few years ago. He got really good with the printer. Practice makes perfect.

I to have a mixture of couplers. I set up a few select cars with incompatible couplers to act as joiners between strings of older and newer cars. It lets me run longer trains.

Good Morning Ken, HO scale is 1:87 scale, you might have a printed object scaled at O or 1:48 scale. Just thinking through sizes and scale you might want to look into the object definitions to see what default scale it is. Then reduce it by 50%
@Kens26512 күн бұрын
Thanks I’ll have to try to figure that out
@bonniehollingsworth199612 күн бұрын
I agree. The gondola looked a bit big even on the printer. Get a couple of 1/87 people figures out and test them inside the gondola. I think that you could scale it smaller at the file. Your quick take on getting the 3D printer running is admirable. I’m still in awe of the learning curve it requires.
@wellhausen12 күн бұрын
It's great that you can use the 3D printer. The result is brilliant! You will do well with the cable car. I'm sure of it. But first you have to buy wagons. I really like the long train! Best wishes! Andreas

Loved this one, the joy on your face like a kid at Christmas is heartwarming. Just a thought, the weight of the gondolas on the chain will affect the hanging stance of the lift, have you allowed for that? Thanks Sandy for nudging him to show some train action lol. Bring on the trains, toot toot!*! ❤

0:04 It appears that you are printing a tram. There would only be 2 units. One reaches the bottom platform as the other reaches the top. platform. When in motion they meet up in the center point of the cable. ( Chain)

Seems like you will need more tension on the "cable". That is an impressively long train for 1 engine.

You're right, I'll need to adjust that.

Hi Ken, I Love your handmade ski lift. It gives me a idea for my layout I need to make sure I have the room to put one in. Question, can you move back a little bit on the base to tighten the base spocket so there won't be so sluggish on the chain. or Do you think there should be a little slack on the chain? I can't wait to see when it's done.
@Kens2652 күн бұрын
Thanks I actually decided to change to cable instead
@dbsmithy12 күн бұрын
I think in real life, gondolas are the same number going up as down for weight balance. In my opinion, you’ll need an even number of gondolas. The movie “Where Eagles Dare” shows that. Stars Richard Burton and young Clint Eastwood.
@Kens26512 күн бұрын
Cool I agree

I have been a "tech" guy all my 79 years. You have impressed me. I am trying to make a drawing to use with a printer but freeCAD has some faults. How did you get a drawing for your gondola? Great work.

I think it was thingiverse they have a lot of them

@@Kens265 I figure if you make something someone else made is useless. I need to be able to make things I designed. At one time I could have sent you a photo but not anymore. I am trying to make a drawing of a boxpox wheel in scale that would be about three inches in diameter to start.
@dbtech791411 күн бұрын
@@RobertBOUSKILL I don't know what a boxpox is, but I design things with TurboCAD. I download a lot of things from Thingiverse also.

@Kens26512 күн бұрын

@philtucker122412 күн бұрын
Ken I’m confused about the scale of the Gondola as it looks larger than your locomotives. (It’s big enough for about 50 people?) I suppose I was actually thinking of just two people on a chair lift. Also remember that the gondola should be on a continuous loop, so you will need it to go around a big very slow moving pulley at the top and the bottom to allow passengers to step on an off.. (Have you tested the speed of your chain drive yet?)
@Kens26512 күн бұрын
I don’t have the motor hooked up yet. Hopefully this coming week
@philtucker122412 күн бұрын
@ Ken why not test it on the workbench first, (just to make sure you can control it at very low speed) if it’s off one of your electric bikes……🤣😂
@musicman894212 күн бұрын
That depends on the type of gondola. There are ones that can carry upwards of dozens of people at one time and if that one is used there's 2 of them - one on each cable and the people stand. The other type only carry like 4 people at a time and those people are seated.
@philtucker122412 күн бұрын
@ yes I ride them regularly they’re fun!
@johnjason720412 күн бұрын
