John, This really a great model MP15DC . I recently heard that HO scale may be supplanted by N scale, but with such a completely awesome model as this it is not so much a worry. Wow is the word for this baby ! Yea ! Atlas ! ! !

I brought SP #2697 silver series because I didn't want sound. On the box it clearly says it has 8 pin board, but when I disassembled it had a 21 pin board. Atlas needs to correct that. Overall a good model, but does lack SP details.

I have subscribed and enjoy them a lot look forward to more of them coming but I did have a question for you, would you happen to know anybody who sells completely automatic signal gate crossings, with the gates and lights and sound coming on automatically when a train approaches?

Excellent review john. As always. This thing runs So smooth. Crisp sharp lettering. I didn't see any gear hitch. gerat grill detail. Great seeing the engineer in the cab. Cool ditch lights. Cab number board Marquis in the parts bag?

Only ones that come with ditch lights are Norfolk Southern I purchased all 3

John, does Atlas pay you? Are you not allowed to criticize a model? I cancelled my pre order on this MP15 due to a glaring omission which you did not touch upon! All SP MP15 have their number board at cab roof level and not clustered with the SP light package! Oh let me guess it’s “as delivered!” I wish manufacturers would model the railroad’s standard because this “as delivered” is basically a “fantasy” model as it seems the railroad makes mmodification on the locomotives before it goes into use and thus noboowill actually see the “as delivered” version! This is such a disappointment for me as I was hoping Atlas would be included in the mix of locomotives to choose!

No, Atlas does not pay me. Product spotlights are not critical reviews. I show you (very clearly) what comes out of the box. If you need to work on it to make it ready for your layout, you know exactly what you'll be up against after watching. Model manufacturers go through too much expense and trouble to deserve being nitpicked by me. I'm glad they give serious modelers such a great starting point. Modify to your heart's content satisfied with the fact that you won't have to scratch build the whole thing from the ground up. Seems like a great project to me!

I recently purchased the SP 2697 already knowing that Atlas was never known for having road specific details. I purchased a SP GP38-2 years ago and realized that. It is ashame that the effort is not put into the models.

I don't think it's "lack of effort" as much as doing it so that they can use the same tooling for a bunch of different road names.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE WRONG AND THE NUMBER BOARDS ARE WRONG. SP HAD THEIR NUMBER BOARDS LOCATED ON THE FRONT OF THE CAB, JUST ABOVE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. ALSO, THEY HAD TWO PA IRS OF LIGHTS ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD, INCLUDING A RED LIGHT BETWEEN THE TWO HEAD LIGHTS ON THE FRONT AND THE REAR OF THE CAB! ATLAS SHOULD HAVE PUT THE CLASSIC SO HEADLIGHT PACKAGE THAT SP HAD ON ALL THEIR SWITCHERS! ONLY ATHEARN GOT IT RIGHT! ATLAS, GO BACK AND TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE SP MP15 SWITCHERS! NEARLY EVERY ONE OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC SWITCHERS HAD TWO PAIRS OF Lights ON THEIR SWITCHERS.

I totally agree with you, Athearn and Broadway Limited have both got the SP details correct. For the price at $300 they should be getting these details correct. Very disappointed in Atlas.
