I remember you mentioning switching from N to HO a few days ago. If I wasn't so invested in N, I'd think seriously about it. If I can stay in my house for the long term, my spare bedroom is probably big enough for a layout like Gary's.

I had N-gauge from age 7 to 17, then I dropped out of the hobby for 35 years and what definitely brought me back was Life-Like/Walthers producing models of the NYC subway trains and that did it, I was BACK! In HO scale of course and never went back to N-gauge as I felt they were tiny in my now grown hands plus no one was modeling the NYC subway models in N-gauge, and STILL no one is producing N-gauge models of the NYC subway. I also credit MTH whole had a hand in bringing me back to the hobby as again, the NYC subway models produced by MTH were bigger in O-scale and because my first introduction to railroading was the NYC subway system being born and raised there. I added another scale to model that's the perfect size being slightly larger than HO and that's OO-scale, so I'm modeling 3 scales and having a blast. N-gauge is perfect when space is an issue and N-gauge has really grown with DCC, sound and so much more, but HO has more they say. Have fun!

I am hearing so much about today's Atlas train models that is very complementary. I am fortunate have some of the newer Atlas model trains. Great movement and an especially fine tuned eye to terrific detail. Model trains have really progressed way beyond what I knew in the later years of the 1900's. Here's a thought. The reason the cab figures are missing is because Atlas is working on how to animate them. Did that engineer in that HO cab just wave at me ? Really cool stuff.

Yes, I am jealous ! These new Atlas locos look so good I can spend 15 minutes with the DCC start up sounds of one just sitting there in idle and not going anywhere. Just sitting there looking and sounding so good.

Only one real thing not mentioned that really distracts from the model in the front, and a bad flaw on atlas' part, the mold line on the vertical side top, of the front, long hood. That should not be there.

I'm not impressed with the sand filler hatches on the front either. They really screwed the pooch on these two topics

If you want to make these kinds of criticisms, perhaps you should share your qualifications as well.

@TSG Multimedia it is just basic knowledge of locomotive models. The overall contour of the top end of the long hood in this area is overall a complete disaster. A 2 minute search on comparison of photos for the untrained eye doesn't take long to reveal atlas messed up bad here. I am simply pointing out the obvious defects I hope they will correct. This kind of defects detracts severally and does not qualify its price point. The more you look at it the worse it gets lol. Such defects should be included in a review revealing a model's flaws, especially something as drastic as this. Atlas did far better on old tooling.
