Hey, just found this site. Wish to thank you for taking the time to help share your wisdom. At 60, I have rediscovered the only hobby that takes me back to when I was about 8, when I got my first 4 lane T-Jet set. I still have 2 of the original cars and race them from time to time. Thanks again!

Been using this type of power hack for a year and a half. Works great. Nice to be able to change voltage once in a while. Keep up the good work.

Holy crap! Those cars are fast. My old cars never went that fast. Nice!

WOW, Thats amazing how your cars can take corners at that speed without flying off the track. I always had to use guardrails

Not bad. Thank you for the info. I've ben looking at a DC speed controller actually. I've seen power supplies like that and would maybe try one.

I was into all kind of slot cars once upon a time. I came to realize that like real race cars, there has to be some technical limitations on the slot cars otherwise they are just bullets that aren't really controlled. The limitations would probably come in the form of motor power, tires, car weight and maybe one or two other things (just like real race cars). The alternative would be to have no limitations and make it about the car owner working to make the car as fast as possible while still staying on the track. I can see where the latter of the two scenarios might have appeal for some people. It did not for me.

Thank you for the video, I am currently looking to get back into my HO slot car days. I have a bunch of TYCO track that I was considering making a semi permanent 4 lane lay out. Or I was going to just buy the TOMY 4 Lane set up for a fresh more powerful set up. The main question I have is would something like this Power Hack eliminate the surge effect when running multiple cars off the same power supply? And also does the TOMY set up suffer from that? Thank You been watching your videos all night!

Our 4 lane is set up with a power supply for each lane

This would be great for the AW Drag Strip sets. No longer needed for Tomy, now that the new Tri Power power packs. BTW, I want that Viper car from Hack Video 1 -- where can I get one?

The hack idea is intended for guys that don't have Tomy tracks or want more amperage than the Tri-Power can deliver. The tri pack is only about 1 amp. This hack gives you 5 amps. Cars are available in the shopping cart of my web site or my eBay store.

those PARMA controllers quite expensive from my research. how fast will a stock controller burn out, if at all?

Been using stock old aurora controllers with power hack for several years with no problems.

Sorry, but I liked the 1st generation T-Jet cars the best. It took some skill to race these instead of just putting them on the track and watching them go round and round. It took more skill to race the cars.

Skill is relative. Lots of guys like T-jets, lots of guys like magnet cars. My business is built around where more people are.

Hi I went to get my tomy/afx track out. But it didn't draw power/work. I don't know if its the plug unit or the track connector strip. Have you had this problem?
@riggenracer4 жыл бұрын
hard to say without having the pieces in front of me.

Mike, if you don't have one, run down and pick you up a multimeter. Doesn't have to be an expensive one and they're just handy to have around for lots of things.

Don't know if this is the correct video to post the comment in/i.e. it may have been another of your videos, but I recognize it was your video I was watching. Long story short: I bought one of the 100W multi-voltage universal laptop power supplies you recommended (smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013RLG2SC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00) and it works GREAT! Thanks a million for pointing me toward an affordable power supply!

Where is an explanation of these "levels" that you keep referring to?
@riggenracer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Within the HO racing hobby and business, the term "level" is somewhat relative. It is just an easy way to rate magnet strength without getting too technical. The lower the number the weaker the magnet, the larger the number the stronger the magnet. In days gone by most all HO slot cars had relatively weak magnets and there was no need to really rate them. However, with the advancement of late model in-line chassis platforms from Viper, BSRT, Wizzard, and Slottech that are scaleable, some system of terms had to be developed to rank-order performance classifications.

Harden Creek Slot Cars Thanks for the quick reply. I apologize for writing a "wall 'o' text". I tried to break it up. . I have to be honest, I'm not at all clear on what you mean. You said _"some system of terms had to be developed to rank-order performance classifications."_ That would imply that each ranking on the scale has some specific measurable attribute(s). What _are_ the performance classifications? How many are there? In what order are they ranked and according to what attributes? What is the definition of lowest performance classification? What is the highest performance classification? What are the intervening classifications and what are the attributes of each? What order do they come in? Where do the numbers fall on the scale? I guess what I'm asking you to do is "get too technical". If I wanted to assign a car a level value that you would be likely to agree with, how would I go about doing it? . When you say that these levels are "relative", I guess what I'm asking is, relative to what? Is "level" just an arbitrary feeling about how strong a cars motor magnets are? . You _are_ assigning a number value here and that number must be a measurement of _something._ . There must be some sort of defined metric or set of metrics to align these terms with or they become, well... meaningless. Especially when using these terms with an audience who has no working knowledge of the scale you are using. When we use a number on a scale of numbers, to rank or rate something, those numbers denote something specific. A measurement (or set of measurements) of some kind that is defined against a specific ranking system with measurable demarcation between one point and the next. At least one specific attribute that is unique to each point on the scale. Rankings that anyone should be able to make once they understand the scale being used. That's the key; understanding the scale and what attributes rank a specific car at a specific point on the scale. . If "level" is unspecific, you could have two people look at the same car and one call it "level 4" and the other call it "level 2786" and both would be "correct". Sort of takes all the meaning away from the term "X" when using the description "level X" if you know what I mean. . Please understand, I'm not trying to be obtuse or argumentative, I am only trying to understand what metric or set of metrics you are referring to with the term "level". Basically some way for me or anyone else to rank a car with a "level" and have you mostly agree with that assigned ranking because we are all using the same defined system. . Thanks for taking the time and for any info you can give on how to more clearly define or use this "level" term. . If this ranking you are doing is so far only based on "feelings" and not yet clearly defined, perhaps I could help you define it. Bring it in to a real world application based on real world attributes. I'd be happy to help you write up a defined "level" scale (if one doesn't already exist) and fine tune it to make it clearly understandable to anyone. . Thanks again.

It would be cool if someone would 3D print a Tomy terminal controller bare plug. Or even something that would pressinto the groove and utilize lugs or female banana fittings.
