Pros:
- HOA rules will keep the area looking good and most likely home values up
- Amenities - pool, fitness center, parks, security, etc
- Reduce responsibility - snow removal, mowing, maintenance
- Community focused - tend to be more social
Cons
- Limited freedom - changes or personalization can be difficult
- Can be costly - might be able to just buy a house for same payment and pay someone to mow/shovel etc
- Less privacy
- Subject to HOA - mismanagement or politic within HOA

This was a very balanced take. I think I would add, if you are buying an HOA - are you willing to get involved? Are you bad at budgeting for repairs? If you are then it might be worth it.

Ahh, I was thinking of getting a condo for the very reason of not wanting to worry about yard work/snow removal. Just hated the thought of depending on someone to help me with those things. Now, I may consider buying a single family home again as...I do desire the privacy. Thanks again!

Awesome!! HOAs are expensive just to mow and remove snow! There are usually lots of teenagers looking to make some extra money through mowing and shoveling snow at cheaper prices than bigger companies. Might be able to find flyers at the library, community centers, coffee shops, etc.

We moved from a strict one run by a narcissist to another one that was alot more lenient. We did not want to but we had no choice. We were in a huge hustle to find SOMETHING. And, I have a gnome by my driveway. The HOA doesn't care.

I’m not even half way done with this video b/c I want flexibility and freedom!! For HOA I get the value they keep in a home and neighborhood but I’ve seen many homes w/out HOA sale without an issue of the value. And I’ve seen gorgeous homes with clean neighbors w/out HOA. HOA is definitely a no-no for me.

I hate HOA in my high-rise condominium. I want to sell my unit. HOA ruled on not allowing cigarette smoking inside a unit and a balcony. So basically residents are not allowed to smoke even inside their unit. I am a smoker and lived in the building for 12 years. Now I m not allowed to smoke 😤 at all Yes HOA can CONTROL anything

I guess if the HOA is well managed that overrides all the cons. If your investment in a condominium has appreciated in considerable value over time,and you're great rates of return then the owner wouldn't be too bothered about HOAs even if they are on the expensive side. Investments in condominiums can be a good investment you just need to do your research.

Zillow gives you an option to filter HOAs. No one can force you to join an HOA if it wasn't there when you moved in.

@@WinTheHouseYouLove ok, some people say I'm full of conspiracies when I say you never actually own a home, but the way is see it if you have to pay to live in it you don't own it. I was referring to property tax. I never knew of anything called hoa fees until today. This just adds more annual expenses you pay for something you are supposedly own. Also from what I understand you also aren't allowed to renovate or do anything the hoa wouldn't approve to the home.

How does the HOA in Milwaukee get away with no disclosure of the financial budgets being opened annually and voting for new board members . Our condo association in Milwaukee is $190,000.00 in debt 2022 no disclosure of how ? No communication to disclose strategies? Why . What laws are there for handling dysfunctional management and few board members who do not respond ! 5 years of debts and no service just raising costs to continue do owners of 88 units . Amazing! No accountability, no visibility, no communication, no annual meeting gs for 4 years . How does the condo owners change rhe management and board. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All government agencies have been contacted from alderman, president of common council, mayor’s assistant. Wow . Everyone says civil suit not any government agencies can help open communication with citizens do owners and condo management and board . Amazing . Hired an attorney with 20ty condo owners signing a proxy for who should be the new board members . No response . We are now getting g ready to make a KZbin show if HOA of Milwaukee held hostage by the dysfunctional management and dysfunctional board . Not America . The reviews of the management on the management team holding our 88 condos hostage has 50 ty terrible reviews on the BBB if Milwaukee. All other review platforms are hosting a runaway dysfunctional management company. Sone other condo associations found poor accounting and got back $50,000.00 from the management . Help any tips available we the hostages of the dysfunctional condo board and dysfunctional management need assistance. Thanks Roofs torn off with 400 shingles gone recently and metal carports falling apart and balconies falling . All documented by private home inspection using drones and collecting 400 plus shingles . All the communication has provided no results . We are approaching all TV and KZbin Connections. How can the dysfunctional board and management get away with this behavior ! Thanks
