Just watched the famous Matt Paxton from Hoarders (U.S.) talking about the hoarding disorder. He said that every single hoarder he ever dealt with had some sort of severe trauma, and the hoard was a way to avoid the pain of that trauma. He also said that it does no good to clean up the hoard until the hoarder has dealt with the trauma. They will simply rehoard until the trauma has been dealt with. He urges compassion and love and said that he learned yelling at the hoarder, which he used to do, is cruel and ineffective as well.

Hoarders in Europe always looks so much more easy going and mentally helpful versus Americas that sheds a dark light on the entire show And also so much more yelling than Europe and general stress lol everything is always about to be condemned in 2 days, or the owner is about to face jail time from the city etc on the American show causing so much distress and anger 😂. If you enjoy "the chase", I think it's far better to make the choices so much harder. I used to buy a lot of clothes. Then I started a capsule wardrobe and only purchase items if they fit perfectly, exact color, and are made to last. It almost never happens so you won't overbuy. I also used to collect antiques. When they got too much I sold them all. Now I collect Mesolithic arrowheads. But I have to find them myself. I don't keep them. I donate them to the local archaeology center.
