This episode I share my emotions of being very anxious in the newly opened space in the basement. We acknowledge and work through those emotions so that we can continue in our recovery ❤️ #hoarder #recovery #clean

You are doing a great job! Your tossy-tossy piles are so big now! Suggestion: Lots of people do crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Maybe you could do your craft KonMari in September so you can give away some supplies when people are looking out for them. But don't feel pressure to do so. You're doing great! :) Love your videos.

Maybe if you are having a harder declutter day you could just go through the space (ex: basement or your living space) and just find recycling, trash and easy toss items. That would impact the size of the piles as time went on too.

When I craft with my youth group on Zoom, sometimes we can do a drop off of the materials beforehand so we can do things together. Maybe your idea for the women's "(cr)afternoon" could do something similar if the covid restrictions are too high to meet in person yet? Ms. Heart could make some packs up of the things she has enough of and people could pick up a pack from the tub she has for selling items, or she could do a round of drop off's for local people.

I took most of our dvds and put them into binders. I had a bookcase with 5 levels and condensed it to one shelf of binders according to areas for dvds (children, religious, cartoon, etc). Our binders are sort of like library sections, but dvds. (I did a similar thing with kid's books. I bought magazine holders and created categories for our sons to find books of interest to them. All of a sudden they were SO MUCH MORE INTERESTED IN READING!!!! They became bookworms because when they were interested in reading it was really interested in finding a book on a topic of their interest! We even let go of the bookcase!

I like to think of this decluttering journey as Stages. STAGE 1 = letting go of what's easy (trash, stuff not attached to, stuff that's not used anymore and not sentimental, etc). It's also about gathering like things together and labeling them. You're doing great at this HH! STAGE 2 = Going through Zones of Like Items and deciding "what's enough", "what truly serves me well now", etc. Time has its own way of helping one to by okay to let some things go too. We've seen that often HH! Proud of you. After going through this stage it's a great time to seriously consider furniture and organizational pieces that work well for you. I really appreciate the different styles of organizing that "Clutterbug" has shared on KZbin. It helps me understand "my way of organizing", "how family members organize" and how many others organize. Once you understand "your way" and what you value keeping, now you're ready to shop for organizational pieces. (Often people make the mistake of thinking "I need to organize ... and then they go shopping. The order that works best is to decluter as you have been doing, understand yourself regarding how you like to organize, then create a plan and then go shopping. Then what you are shopping for will be much more specific because you will have a specific set of things that need a "home". You'll know how big and what type of a container to purchase, even if it means that you need to save first. STAGE 3 = These are things that are harder, like sentimental items. These are things that you seriously may want to display in special ways around your home, or seasonally or at least to have a special place for them. It may be a challenge to "process" some things ... and I love how you go at your pace. That's definitely important during this stage. Hope this helps. It takes a lot of pressure off of me that I "have to" process everything now. I love how you respect "doing what you're ready for in the present" too!
@megan21762 жыл бұрын
Love to hear about the respect you have for your husband, and his respect for you! With no emotional attachment to each other's things, it would be easy to just toss the things that aren't yours, but you both hold off on tossing anything until the other person is ready! Marriage goals!! :)

I feel sad when you feel sad that you’re losing things. I know it’s part of the disorder and you don’t feel that way all the time, but I hope you feel better soon about the basement. Your kitchen, living room and bedrooms (and bathroom!) all look so much better because of your decluttering, and you seem to feel better about them. You deserve nice things, you know! Maybe you could just verbalize to us, in vague terms, or make a drawing (because you’re so artistic!), even if it’s going to change 10 times before you’re done, about what you think the basement will generally look like when you’re done with it (play area? craft area? storage area? exercise area?, etc.) and you could tell us about it or show it to us, and then maybe the empty space wouldn’t seem so unfamiliar.

For me personally, I hate making choices about large items (like that recliner I spy in your hoard, I had one too). Processing the disposal or donation of the item seemed so daunting but the mental freedom that came from parting with it was a weight off my shoulders. I knew I would never make space for it in my living area but I had bought it for my daughters nursery. I had spent so much money on it. It went to a new home, a woman recovering from surgery. My recliner went to live a second life and serve another purpose. It also cleared space to make way for a play kitchen and table for my daughter to play at. When we have empty spaces, it gives room for us to grow. When we give away our hoardtress, we meet the needs of others. Gods providence is a flowing faucet from an unending well. The more you give, the more room you have to receive.

There are many ways to tidy and clean spaces. I really like how she takes a small space and puts keep items into general keep zones and then shows us the sell, donate and toss pile! You've done an amazing job so far. I'm really looking forward to the craft organizing when you get to it. Can't wait to see what all you have and how you organize it. A few years ago I decided to only keep the stuff for my "top 5" ish categories because I knew I'd never be able to complete every single project I ever thought about. The frustration/guilt of seeing all the projects piled up that I wanted to do but hadn't gotten around to was overwhelming and disappointing at times. Even doing that, I still have an entire room for hobbies and crafts that I periodically re-organize based on what I'm happiest working on at that time.

@alyssapfluger42362 жыл бұрын
Wow, Ms. Heart! So impressed that you were able to acknowledge that anxiety and still get rid of such a great tossy tossy pile. I know that overcoming any mental struggles is always a bit of back and forth, but you've made such great progress. Take it more slowly if you feel that would be better, and know that I'm so inspired that you keep generally moving forward. If you are feeling lack, it might help to spend some time going over your finances or looking at pictures from the recent trips that you've been able to take with your savings. Of course, mentally I might also trick myself by putting something in the middle of the room (like a piece of furniture or some art I really value) just to remind myself that I am not losing things, I am curating what matters most to me. That's the lens I use when declutting semi "fantasy self" items like craft supplies. You can will be curating your crafts, not getting rid of your creativity. Instead you will be prioritizing projects and balancing what can be used while leaving time for other things you value, like time with your hubby and boys.

Wow I am completely in aw of what you did, what a great job! I had 2 thoughts/ideas that I wanted to share with you: - cd’s are difficult (saved mine as well) Maybe you can put them into your sentimental bin? Saves some space and you can deal with them later. - what a great idea to do a big konmari session with all your craft bins. I’ve got the feeling that it can be quite overwhelming. Maybe some ‘preparation’ can help. Know that you can’t do all the projects you had in mind and that that’s okay; you will not throw away your creativity, you just choose to focus on certain projects. And as a second preparation it can maybe help to have a vision of the containment of the craft supplies. Set a boundary. 2 tubs? 4 shelfs? 1 closet? This will help you through difficult choices and help you achieve what you really want: the space, relaxation and focus to enjoy your crafting. Lost story short; I’m cheering you on haha!

Wow. Brilliant work. So much stuff leaving the basement. A suggestion for a future video. What you have already sorted, organise the bins in categories, like all crafts together and sentimental, hubbys items, kids clothing, etc, etc. That eay when you go to do a Konmari method you will know you will find all the crafts in one place.

I love the way you rationalise your thoughts and feelings and if something is too much you admit it and leave it for another time. Well done.
