I really appreciate how you often mention that you are going to recycle the tossy tossy items as best as you can and talking about avoiding buying more plastic :) not many declutter videos talk about that and it's such an important message.

If I might make a suggestion? Could you perhaps combine the perfume and body sprays into one of the beautiful trays and put your makeup tray into the space freed up by not having two of them? It would give your eye some resting space and more practically give you more useable counter space.
@goldfishsnake4 жыл бұрын
like you talked about at the end looking at empty trays and empty counter, and also when you noticed the difference between the dusty counter and the counter under the tray - my house gets really dusty too, and that's why I prefer to have my things put away in drawers. especially makeup brushes, they're getting dusty if they sit in a cup, and also they're exposed to aerosolized mist from toilet flushes!! as you embrace the look of clutter free counters, it can be helpful to revisit that in the komari book too, about putting everything away and off counters so it's calming to look at and your things are protected and it's all easier to clean!

Backslides in decluttering is extremely normal! Yes, throwing trash away is a part of that but it's just one half of it. The other half is letting stuff come into your house in the first place. This is a lot harder since most of the things we buy are the things we need! If you want to tackle that side of the problem, I recommend looking into zero waste solutions. The first step is putting on gloves and going through your trash can item by item and asking yourself "why did I get this if it just ends up as trash?" "do I actually need to replace this?" "if so can I get a version that won't become trash later?". It can be pretty gross though. And don't fall for the trap of buying zero waste replacements if you don't need them! If you don't use plastic straws then don't buy metal straws!
@ahoardersheart4 жыл бұрын

I wouldn’t even think of it as backsliding because you’re dealing with it. It’s just continuing the journey and learning new ways to manage the things that inevitably come into your house. Even minimalists have an ebb and flow of things moving in and out of their homes, the only difference is they have learned ways to manage it. The FlyLady Swish and Swipe routine is a great one for keeping bathrooms tidy. It’s just a couple of minutes on the morning to wipe down the counters and freshen up the loo. It’s really helped me keep this little things picked up in the bathroom.

Hi beautiful Lady! I loved today's video! What a wonderful quick mini-clean! I'm reading Decluttering at the Speed of Life. And I think the message I'm most taking from it is to put things away now, not make procrastination piles to put away later, to find homes for all the stuff, each and every single item. It's working and my counters are starting to be cleared off of all those things I set down to put away in a different floor later, later, later. It's those daily habits that we are in the process of developing. This is the first time, I feel like the kitchen is under control. There is not one single thing (well I lie, there's the sprouting sweet potato I want to plant) on the counter tops that belongs elsewhere, and it's getting easier to maintain in small bursts of a minute or two, putting things back, putting the dishes in the dishwasher or away in the shelves. I am...flabbergasted, astounded, boondoggled. How is my kitchen staying clean? It never has before. It's all thanks to those small daily habits. I really want all the spaces in my house to function like this, and I want to keep my kitchen like this.
@ahoardersheart4 жыл бұрын

Ive been watching your videos for a couple of weeks, i started back at the beginning, first i want to say THANK YOU for putting yourself out there and explaining how hoarders think... My family has a few, i personally always say i am the opposite of a hoarder and i want to throw everything away lol so I'm more of a minimalist, however i want to help my other family members so it helps a ton to know how they process.... Anyways, you should combine your perfumes and body sprays onto one tray than turn your makeup organizer to face the front where the square mirror with the perfumes are and that would open up some more counter space ❤❤
@cack1214 жыл бұрын
You like the minimalistic "view" after you removed everything. I believe you would serve yourself better by putting all the stuff away somewhere. They may be things you use, however, you can not possibly use all of that in one day. Use a linen closet or a drawer to store the organizer and only bring out what you need for the DAY..putting it away after you use it. Will keep your bottles and compacts clean and will stop dust from settling on the brushes. Also, it will make a DAILY wipe of the counter super easy each morning. You will NEVER have to "clean" it again this way

Excellent, excellent job! That's how it's done! If you follow a Fly Ladyish routine, you focus on one zone per week. I spend 15 minutes a day in that zone for 4 days. I'm so proud that you disposed of the packaging. Items take up less space when they are out of their packaging. That allows us to get the item into its home as well as letting us see how much we have or if something needs replacing! What a beautiful photo of you in your wedding gown, my friend!

HI Miss Heart! Great video and lovely to see that you managed that session very easily and rather than it being a hoarded mess, it was just a little bit of clutter. You have a busy life, husband, children, job and whatever else to contend with let alone staying on top of housework. I am not trained in any medical field but I have worked with children and young adults with learning disabilities many of whom were diagnosed with ADD and/or ADHD. I recognise some of the traits of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) within you. Although ADHD can be be a very difficult disorder to live with, I feel that those that do are mostly very intelligent individuals whose brains are capable of functioning at a higher rate that those who do not live with the disorder. Thinking about the crystals, the theory is that you are drawn to the crystals that you need or benefit from in your life. Each different crystal works on a different vibration/energy field. If, during your busy day, you get an opportunity to read up on the information relating to each of the crystals you have in your collection, you will probably find that every one of them has come to you for a reason that fits in with who you are and what you need. I look forward to your next video. As always, best wishes to you from Linda in Norfolk, England xxx

Letting your beauty shine through! I am stuck inside this week due to the heat , so I am going over all expenses, a little every day, so not so scary for me. I am a senior senior and have only the basics in my bath, not like when I was young. My towels are all new , and just plain white. Looks so pretty nicely folded on the shelves. Why is it that I am the only one to toss empties , restock, or refill? Clear space is so much easier to clean! Easy dinner of baked chicken and ready made slaw and potato salad, biscuits. Taking the easy way out in this heat. I sorted out the first aid box that is kept in the bath and made sure we were supplied. Why do people just leave empty band aid wrappers in the box? After I watched this, I went and replaced the toothbrushes , razors, and washed all combs and hairbrushes.

It must be akward for you at first, but just try to say no to those little (useless let's be honest) plastic bags that bag is so small you can either put the product you bought in your purse (i'm sure you must have quite a big handbag - mama struggle imma right?-) or hold it in your hand until you reach your car/home that way, you're not scattering plastic bags with brand new things everywhere in your lovely house that you'll immediately forget, AND you're reducing, at your level, your usage of plastic ! The Tahiti pink Lily and Bamboo spray is my FAVORITE from Bath and Body. I was so sad when they discontinued it. I bought 10 bottles of the body spray, the body lotion, and 5 bottles of the hair refresher. My number 1 what I always have on. Don't know what I'll do when I use what I have up 😔

How about a no bag challenge for the month of August? I love that Bobby Brown Cream (but wow is it pricey). Also how can we help you getting new stuff put away without the boxes when it comes into the house? Going to watch on of the first bathroom. Videos to cheer you on.

Nice job. A Big difference from the first time. But i thought you would have tossed more than just the trash? One nail polish in, one nail polish out 😊❤️❤️❤️

Either way 😎 \😀 I love your videos - but it's really nice to see your beautiful smiling face. I have a Hoarder 's brain. I am pretty sure I was born this way. I can remember picking junk out of the bulk trash pile early in the morning before they came to haul it away - as a CHILD. A young child - single digits. It's hard changing a lifetime 's mindset. You are inspiring and doing an awesome job. I definitely have OCD too. Baby steps. TFS 😊

You should totally plant lavender in your yard under a window. Good job on throwing away the boxes. Just create a new habit of throwing away the box the minute you take an item out and find a home for that item.

I think I'll take a note from your book but instead of starting with the smallest room, I'll start with the smallest box. I'm back at my parents home and I get overwhelmed going though my belongings I packed away 2 years ago.
