for the anime figurines, I'm specifically asking about people who have lewd ones on display! other anime figurines are acceptable...for now

I am an grown adult woman. If I want my lewd Fox girls and 1/4 bunny girls on display, I'll have them on display. My friends don't care, I pay my taxes. It's my adult hobby. If kids come over to my house I put a cover on the case. Can it be called weird. Yeah of course. But what hobby isn't weird? If it's a figure of a grown woman or man, I don't see why you can't enjoy them. Though I agree that Figures from like Eromanga sensei, or Shiro from No game no life are fucking cringe.

I was about to comment that I know some pretty cool people who collect figurines. And even anime figures wouldn't red flag me, as long as they aren't lollies in lewd poses. I do think it's a bit weird to have posters of naked anime chicks on full display but eh, not a red flag.

In Ireland splashing someone by driving through a puddle is illegal and you can lose your licence from it. Even if it is an accident, it is proof you were driving without paying attention to the road and to pedestrians.

I feel like people with personal issues themselves have trouble separating therapy and diagnoses with just random stuff said by just pedestrians, people can still use the words associated with mental health work, its you who seems to have a problem with assuming what people mean. Most people just use them like any other words, there are crazies like actual narcissist who turn the accusations around like a friggin party trick, but most of the time i see completely normal discourse interrupted by these types reflections and assumptions. You cant change how people speak and find patterns, but you can choose to be less hypersensitive about them.

I don't want to turn this into a witch hunt, but I think That Chapter is among the worst. From an entertainment standpoint, he's got it down; he makes jokes and quips and it can be fun. But when you think about it, he is so insanely disrespectful to everyone he talks about. The murderers, that's one thing. But he insults the victims, calling them names like "loser" or "wimp" or "not the sharpest tool in the shed" and cracking jokes about people's traumatic lives and the decisions that led them to their demise. I definitely prefer Danielle Kirsty or Coffeehouse Crime -- they show respect for everyone while still telling an engaging story. Even Mr. Ballen, who's a divisive figure in the true crime community, is a respectful yet entertaining storyteller who is incredibly charitable, donating money/proceeds to various victims charities.

This is just from personal experience, but people who have no hobbies. I grew up around people in my family and those they interacted with who only focused on work (just the typical 9-5 kind of work), and maybe the occasional drunken night out at the bar or staying inside binge watching television. Beyond that they literally did nothing else. Talking to them is like talking to wet cardboard. There’s nothing interesting about them and all they do is complain about work or talk about work drama. I’m not bashing anyone who enjoys those things and is genuinely interested in them, but there’s a massive difference between being interesting while doing something that you enjoy and doing something out of boredom or to pass the time. People who have hobbies are at least neat to talk to since they’re passionate about it.

I was kinda sad about the "red flag hobby" of adopting too many animals, because I myself have 9 dogs and a cat. But then I remembered that I basically run a small animal shelter and take great care of all my rescues, while some people take animals in just to neglect them. It sucks when people just adopt or buy animals they won't take care of

Regarding armchair psychology. Have we all forgotten how trendy it was to have an eating disorder on Tumblr back in the day, and how much that messed with an entire generation of girls? Let's destigmatize getting treatment, and have greater compassion for people who struggle, but WITHOUT romanticizing and glamorizing mental illness, using our illnesses as excuses for shitty behavior, or identifying with our illnesses as a personality trait 🙄 I do appreciate that we're talking more about mental health collectively as a society, cuz frankly, we need it. But it's a double edged sword. Well-meaning people often misuse clinical terms, which makes them lose all meaning... Meanwhile, not-well-meaning people drop these terms to make themselves seem self aware or enlightened, when really, they're just being manipulative. Not to mention the danger of associating a specific symptom with only one disorder. For example, difficulty focusing is not exclusive to ADHD, despite what TikTok says - it shows up in almost every mental disorder (as well as many physical illnesses)! In my case, all of the info floating around out there about ADHD, had me thinking that I had it cuz I related to a lot of what people talked about. (Although, to be fair, I thought I had it ever since I found out what it was back in high school, well before TikTok and Instagram....) But nope, turns out it's actually OCD. All of my ADHD-like symptoms were secondary to my underlying anxiety disorder. And this is why we go see trained professionals, folks! A lot of the ADHD tips out there have definitely been helpful for me, and there's nothing wrong with that - if it works, it works. But ultimately the OCD treatment is what's made the most impact in my life and well-being. If you're treating the wrong thing, you might see *some* progress, but probably not to the level you want.

I don't know if these count as family vlogging channels, but I've seen tik-tokers and KZbinrs talk about how they deal with their kids problems through gentle parenting, to teach others how to do it. They never show the children's faces or say their names (Unelss the child is old enough to consent to it), I think that's the only way that someone can do family blogging where it's morally correct and not damaging to the child.

I am interested in taxidermy and many people treat that as a red flag which is understandable, however I still have a bitter taste in my mouth every time a person cuts contact with me because of it. I do feel empathy, I do a lot of work to help animals and people in need, never had as much of a thought about hurting someone, yet some people view me as a monster just because of my hobby. I started telling people I am doing taxidermy outright and my life has improved drastically because if you bring that up in the first conversation, those who don’t approve can move on with their life without getting hurt by separation. I am now surrounded by those who approve of my hobbies and even help me out sometimes :)

1:23 i went down a weird rabbithole one time doing this. A woman bumped into my car in a parking lot and we exchanged information.(nothing ever came of it since it was just some rubber from her tire that i could just rub off my bumper and some small paint chips) Then out of pure curiosity i guess? I did a google search and within an hour i had found where she lives from her facebook, that she had kids, what other vehicles she and her husband drove and where she works because her cell number came up on a busness website. It actually scared me to see what kind of stuff people just put on the internet and never even think twice about it, and what someone who actually wanted to cause harm could find so easily. Scary. Shit. Made me delete some stuff off my social medias and get rid of an old facebook account.

The mental health one bothers me so much! I’ve had it happen online and in person multiple times. The worse one was when I was told by a classmate I have ADHD because I set an alarm to remind me to do my laundry and take my medication…. I’ve told people what disorders I do have and they’re just like “Oh well those symptoms are similar to (insert whatever mental health issue here) so it could actually be that instead!” I just also hate their whole attitude about it to. Same classmate was sitting next to me talking about how they just *know* someone they go to church with has Autism and was like “Honey trust me I have it so I can tell you have it. Don’t worry in a few weeks she’ll realize it.” Like dude someone knows their health better than you do! Like I get suggesting looking into something if you’re a friend or family but to a random person? Also to say it with such certainty! The audacity.

The pet adoption thing is something my mother definitely has trouble with to the point where our house and and extra room is filled with dogs and dedicated to dogs with her always having 5+ dogs around her at a time (with way more in other rooms). The people that live here absolutely hate it especially when they’re everywhere all the time and she treats them all like her own children more so than her own kids and even tells us that her dogs treat her better than her children when all she’s focused on is dogs all of the time ever since I was born. it gets frustrating when she’s less focused on her children and is sucked into dog social media groups and won’t acknowledge I’m even talking to her.

My mother in law had 20 dogs when I first met her. But she also had 5 acres of land and treated them all very well. All except two were small. They all seemed healthy and loved so I had no problem with it, not that I would ever advise getting that many. After they all passed she didn't get any more and just has a cat.

Just wanted to hop in the replies and say (because no one else has really said it with much force, or has made excuses for your mom) that that's absolutely awful, for you and everyone else forced to live in that environment, and likely those dogs (the sheer number and density just seems to spell bad living conditions and little individual attention). It's awful your mom's that neglectful towards you, and I'm so sorry you have to deal with that and all those animals on top of it. My house feels full with just two cats, I can't even imagine the stimulus overload that probably comes from living with so many dogs. I hope something about your situation can change soon, and I wish you the best in staying sane untill then.

I still remember the day I was on call with a friend of mine, talking about a different friend's struggles, and she turns to me with, "Hey, so... she probably has echoism, right?" So obviously I go "what???" because the hell is that supposed to be? and she turns to ME, ME the psychology student, ME who is actually studying this stuff, and goes: "Tsk tsk tsk, oh Psixi... do I really need to go talk to your professors? Have you not been learning anything at those courses of yours?" Anyway after condescending a bit about my studying habits, she sent me a link and I swear I saw red when I realized it was something related to the whole narcissism pop-psychology bull. She also had one class on psychology and then proudly proclaimed that she just "instinctively" diagnoses anyone she meets, like "tee-hee, I guess I just can't help it!" So all in all, yeah, pop psychology is kinda sore spot for me. If I hear the words "myers-brigg" my left eye twitches.

Hi! Anime figure collector chiming in :D Granted most of my figures are based on fantasy games like Fire Emblem, so cool character design and high quality sculpts that I display around my entertainment system in my living room and other's based off of original illustrations; they're 3D displays of art. You can have too much of course, and I sell figures that I fall out of love with, so I'm never drowning in them. The lewd figures are one's I personally stay away from as I would definitely need to hide those away from visitors and that's just a waste personally. NSFW dedicated figure companies though do have some of the best quality control funny enough. My main red flag for collectors are Loli lewd figures, definitely the worst in the community.

About the armchair psychology comment: I 100% agree. When I was a teacher, there would always be a handful of students who thought they were so knowledgeable about the human condition and would "diagnose" people they didn't like with conditions they didn't have. These teens were usually oblivious to their issues and projected those toxic traits onto others. No, Greighson (pronounced: "Todd"), Mary isn't bipolar; you just don't like her. It's amazing the conclusion these students drew with only 1 semester of intro to psych.

I'm glad true crime was mentioned. I wasn't a fan of it in the first place, but if you ever stumble across a story that actually happened to you, it hits different. A dude I hung out with in high school randomly violently murdered a mother and attacked her young daughter, then a decade later I see his face on a youtube thumbnail in my feed. A friend of mine was murdered a month ago, and I'm not looking forward to stumbling upon whatever leech feels like using her tragedy for cheap views.

4:53 I've been working at a gas station for a few weeks now, and it's insane to me how many people throw away hundreds gambling. We sell powerball and scratch offs, but I've noticed it's the scratch offs that attract the most with addictive personalities. We have one guy who no matter how much you try to discourage him from buying more will legit spend over a thousand per week on average, and we do cut him off all the time. I'd love to just not sell him any at all, but 1) we're not obligated to and 2) it's really not our responsibility. Still, it kills me. Basically, he's a small business owner who'll spend anything he wins on more tickets if it's not just going to reduce what he'll owe us (he gets the tickets and scratches them before paying). Most I saw him pay in a single day was $300, and he'd have bought more but my manager cut him off.

In defence of Warhammer, it's kinda 3 hobbies rolled into one. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Yes, it's stupidly expensive; personally, I only buy a kit or 2 every 3/4 months when I know I can afford it. If they're sinking money into it to the extent that they can't really survive? That, is a red flag

How do people even watch hours upon hours of true crime content? Even the most interesting unsolved cases at most make for 45 minutes of engaging content. I dunno how people can stomach a 12 hour documentary series about Barbara Ann stabbing her husband in the butthole on their family vacation.

I mean, at least personally I'm incredibly interested in the actual interrogation and discovery process. I'm not referring to the documentary series in this case as much as I am the actual interrogation footage and courtroom proceedings. My family has a history in the judicial system and I personally have a strong interest in criminal psychology (And frankly also non-harmful but just bizarre psychology in general, I'm a case of it myself, it's interesting to see what different kinds of weird bring to the table). Though I used to binge that kind of footage non-stop it started fucking with my mood so I at least mix it with other much less depressing and horrifying content. if you get past pop psychology and get into proper real psychology it is... Well certainly not for everyone but too fascinating for me to pass up.

I think its a red flag mainly when the warhammer fans *unironically* agree with the ideologies of the different character groups. From what I understand, warhammer heavily leans into the "everyone is a bad guy" gimmick. I think this applies to most of the nerd culture hobbies, but I don't consider it much of a red flag unless a) that's the only thing they talk about, b) they're gatekeeping to the point of bullying (a thing my SO suffered from as a child. By ADULTS.), c) they're idolizing a character that is an awful person in-universe (think Joker fans), or d) they're spending so much money on it that they can't afford necessities. The context of how the fan interacts with the culture and the outside world is extremely important.

I think the anime figurines sort of depend. If they are all just, yeah, hentai figures, then I suppose if you're not into hentai that's fine. It doesn't inherently mean someone is an evil person. They just...like things you aren't into. And they might even be fine with being alone. An example of someone not being into something most people consider normal is someone who dislikes kissing; they just think it's super weird and uncomfortable squishing faces with someone, let alone disliking anything mouth related. I completely understand if you have favorite anime though and love collecting figurines; for instance having Guts from Berserk, Motoko from Ghost in the Shell. Both characters being extremely idealized versions of male and female bodies, but having generally well received and praised animes. Even having an Asuka or Rei from Evangeleon isn't necessarily red flag territory. A lot of people love Evangeleon and it is widely considered an excellent anime, even with some of it's cringier and darker and disturbing moments.

Another one: keeping (small) animals (particularly mice or rats) just for the purpose of breeding. Like letting them make babies as much and as often as the critters are capable of, just so that maybe you get a rare (expensive) color like in video games, or maybe even just because you enjoy watching them go at it. And then just give the ones you don't want to the local pet store for reptile food. It's cruel to the animals and can say a lot about the person's morals or lack thereof. I met someone who did that, allegedly as a way to cope with the loss of a mutual friend of ours. He deliberately put the male and female mice together even though his wife told him not to since they had like 25 already. He told her it just relaxed him to watch them (going at it, which might I add is kind of a violent process with mice). He also showed some other behaviors towards the mice that gave me red flags (made them swim in water deep enough that they could only just keep their noses and eyes above the surface while touching their toes to the bottom, enjoyed holding them between thumb and index finger just firmly enough that they couldn't get out and watching them struggle). He also had a tendency to turn everything into a sexual joke. He ended up coercing the heavily grieving boyfriend of our mutual recently deceased friend to sleep with him and assaulted me trying to do the same with me

I consider Warhammer more of a yellow flag, and not cause of the money stuff. Either you’re going to get someone who’s a really fun nerd that knows everything about the setting as well as how to get creative with the models, as well as being sweet, insightful, and understanding of it’s subtext… or you’ll get someone who’s a little TOO interested in the Crusades for ALL the wrong reasons. Edit: and to partially defend the anime figures thing (and I mean only partially), I think it’s A-Ok if said figures are just basically Grown-up Toys. Neat statues of characters in action scenes, cool figurines that are basically grown-up toys, little poseable figures like Nendoroid to display on shelves, that sort of thing. They’re fun to fidget with and can help bring out that little kid in all of us. It’s expensive sure, but I say go for it if you’re having fun and can financially afford it. Now the ones that look like they’re barely covering the chick’s boobs and have no poseability whatsoever? Yeah no, that stuff’s weird and gross. What do you get from it? Something ‘sexy’ to look at? Just google some porn like any reasonable person, don’t buy a $200 statue just for some mediocre tiddy that’s stiffer than your own… ya know. Anime porn statues give off the same vibe as those Ahegao hoodies, where they’re trying to wear their porn addiction as a badge of honor or something.
