Fantastic my friend. Your attention to detail and patience are a great example to those of us who are just learning to build. Holy cow! The nose gear and gear bay look incredible. You kind of glossed over your efforts in there, but the detail is amazing. Good call on not including the gimmicky options, this model won’t be played with, just admired. Great job on tackling the step and hand holds, those details will really show through on the finished model! You are making this toy-like kit into a true work of art.

Thanks Chris. I find most of the moveable parts on it to be gimmicky but I really like the way the landing gear works. Such a cool idea the way they retract and function. Do the wing flaps move on yours? Maybe I was doing something wrong on mine.

Primedmodelworks the ailerons don’t really move, the flaps are just ask disappointing. The rudder moves the most. I do really like the landing gear also , it’s pretty clever.

I like that. I began building the old Airfix 1/24 Harrier, i devised a way to raise and lower gear and flaps by one motor, string and springs. But at that scale it was just a bit small for my fingers (last time i built the kit was 1975 i was much smaller than now!) to do things reliably. If i needing a hinge a paper clip fits perfect inside the metal needle of a ink jet printer refill kit.

WOW! RINGO HAS GROWN! NICE! A bit of extra work, but it's coming out excellent. Geeze! Well it's not as bad {to me } as a Vintage Fighter kit, but it still looks a bit model builder UNfriendly. Luckily you've got it tamed. Way to go!

Hi Sean, great video thanks.. that kit is a POS yeah? I used to make those nozzles for real.. Those big rear ones are called Hot Nozzles and the front end ones are called Zero scarf Nozzles. i remember finish machining the mounting flanges on a berthiez vertical turret lathe using the side arm.. those things were swinging around like ET on a roundabout!!

Thanks Nigel. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a pos...it kind of is what it is. If someone gets it and is expecting a highly detailed replica like you’d find with most newer kits, they’ll be really disappointed. It’s basically a toy in kit form, and it could be a base for a really cool build. There’s a guy on the large scale plane forums who’s building one and is really going to town on his. I’m getting a lot of ideas from his build but I’m not coming anywhere close to what he’s doing. I think this one will turn out pretty cool though, despite some inaccuracies. Sounds like I should send these nozzles out to you, I imagine you could replicate them to the letter;)

Try Solarez to do light lenses. It’s a clear resin that you cure with UV light. They sell several viscosities. Thin for windows, and domed resin perfect for the light lenses. Sands great and polishes out beautifully.

Nice work, you need to look at some photo's of AV8B's on the ground, the square flaps (I can't remember what they are called) that go round the exterior of the intakes - the lower half ones would be closed when the engine wasn't running ;)

@@seanerk5kt9 lots of harrier kits model them open, it's an easy mistake to make. You can use the excuse that the engine's running on the ground ;) Lovely work on the canopy, neat touch with ejection system safety rack.

@@seanerk5kt9 I think I've mentioned before I worked on 1/1 scale Harrier's, you be surprised how much scratch building was done on the real ones! You are doing a fantastic job turning a toy into a pretty decent representation of a 2 Plus. I wouldn't worry too much about the canopy either - they were notorious for issues with the perspex, but you didn't hear that ;)

dont you just hate it when there is a shaft in your exhaust nozzle lol. great job as always. i just weathered an airplane for the first time. a spitfire MK Vb 1/48. i used the sponge chipping method to make the wings look worn where crew would walk. but i added a little too much silver right besides the cockpit. is there an easy fix for it. can i just dab some green on with a sponge or should i just leave it as is, as a reminder in the future so i can see where i started

It depends on how deep the shaft goes. You could try dabbing back some color with a sponge or get in tight with an airbrush...whatever you’d be comfortable with.

Excellent work so far. I've been watching these for some inspiration on mine, whenever I get around to building it. Are you on the largescaleplanes.com forum? There's someone building one who's just going to town on correcting every inch of the model. Love the work so far on yours though, watching for inspiration. I'm not complaining about your building skills., you have done the best you can, but since I've worked on these aircraft, the model is way out of scale when it comes to panel lines and access panels. All panel are a flush fit, and no trench outlines as well as all panel lines, which by the way are very few since most of all this aircraft is made from composits. The wing panel lines look like the Grand Canyon....This is way wrong, so all in all this moxel looks like a Toy. I own this kit and it will require a whole airframe rework.

Yeah, it’s definitely toyish. I would have no desire to re-work everything, my hats off to you for daring to go down that road. I think you’re the 6th person to comment that they’ve worked on the harrier in one form or another. Knowing the plane as you do having hands on experience with it will definitely show through on your build I’m sure.

Hey Sean have a question for you. In regards to Mr. Surfacer, when I spray 500, 1000, and 1200 it pretty much dries as it leaves the nozzle. I've tried shooting it natural and thinning it with Leveling Thinner and IPA, but I have the issue regardless. Do you have a trick, or do I just suck?

I cant imagine shooting it with out thinning it. Also, I’ve noticed that it tends to thicken over time so occasionally I’ll drop some leveling thinner in the bottle. I mostly use 500 just as a thin putty/ filler (brush only). For 1000 and above, I thin it to about 70 percent thinner to 30 paint and spray at a low air pressure 10-12 psi through a .35 needle. Seems to work for me. I do recommend wet sanding afterward with 1000 grit paper to remove any roughness, especially along 90 degree areas.
