I'm glad to hear that another modeler is not a slave to details. I've never entered a contest or submitted photos to a model magazine. My family will be the only other people to see my models and they will not know the difference. I could build a P-61B without a top turret and they would never know the difference.

The Revell-Monogram 1/48 P-61 was the first model plane I ever built. It’s a cool looking plane that doesn’t get the attention like other more popular planes of that era. I’m looking forward to watching this build.

I am looking forward to building mine. I just purchased the B-24J Liberator Kit, from this same company. I want the B-17, next so I can place it next to my Trumpeter P-47 Thunderbolt. The one model that has been a complete nightmare is the Airfix 1/24th Scale P-51D Mustang. The fit on all of the parts is absolutely horrible. I have the kit partially build and have finally given up. I think there is more Squadron 5 on that model than there is Polystyrene. It is sad really, because the model looks like it would be a really nice build. But the seams on the entire kit fit poorly. Hopefully this one will be very cool. Currently working on Trumpeter's 1/32 Scale Vought F4U-1D Corsair. So far, its coming along nicely.

I was really looking forward to the Hobby Boss 1/32 Lancaster. After it’s introduction, I started hearing things about detail, fit and finish issues. It looks like you are seeing some of the same things here. Is this a common problem with larger Hobby Boss kits ? I have built a couple of their 1/48 kits a really liked them. It makes me wary about spending so much money for a kit and being disappointed.

I got this one in my stash.I think the most difficult part is to get a convincing black finish.I will be watching your progress :)
@seanerk5kt96 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean there...I think the key is not to paint it black. I built an f117 a while ago and I think I used a really dark blue...that way I was able to use darker and lighter shades to add interest. I plan on doing a lot of chipping on this one so that too should add a little more to it.

Relish resins in the UK has a number of resin sets to upgrade this kit. You need a new set of resin props and spinners, exhausts ( HobbyBoss forgot to include them entirely) and a new Radome for the nose. One real error in this kit is the main undercarriage doors on the booms. HobbyBoss give you two main doors and you should fix them open for a landed airplane. While this is correct for a P-61A model, the B model has 4 part doors. Two small doors around the main legs and 2 larger doors over the rest of the bay. The reason for the change was that the A model was prone to having debris drawn into the rear booms, thrown up by the tyres. In the B model the larger doors closed when the Main gear locked down before landing, curing 99.9% of the problem. Overall, HobbyBoss give you a reasonably good P61A in the box. But it needs these changes to make a B model. Oh and Relish also make a fixed upper gun barbette.
@seanerk5kt96 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Brett. I knew there were some inaccuracies with this kit. Your info will definitely help out some others wanting to build an accurate version.
@brettpeacock91166 жыл бұрын
Oops, forgot to add WHY you need a new radome to make a B model. They changed the model of radar between the A and B models, necessitating an 8 inch extension to the nose. They also dispensed with the translucent fibreglass for the radome and used an opaque type. Hence all B models have painted radome...

Hi , I am curious on your opinion on "HOBBY BOSS " kits so far ? , such as fit & seam issues ?, I am expecting the 1/32 Liberator soon from " HOBBY BOSS" & any advice would be welcomed .
@seanerk5kt96 жыл бұрын
This is only my second Hobbyboss kit. This one seems to be going well so far...everything seems to fit well although I think some of the interior parts could’ve been engineered to be a little less finicky. We’ll see how the rest of the build goes. I’ve built the 1/48 A10 and there were some fit and seam issues, pretty underwhelmed with that kit to be honest.
@danielbritton85885 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the warnings. I will leave all these big kits to you guys. I did the 350 scale Indianapolis & all the guns were crazy multiple parts which I found annoying & frustrating. I also despise photo etch. The fumble bumble factor is way too high for me to enjoy. That Black Widow was hard to handle at 1/48 scale. Good luck holding it at 1/32.

i also want you to construct a p-61 of the 475th night fighter squadron. the pilot, arvid shulenberger, shot down a pilotless b-29 on its return from a tokyo night raid. Shulenberger later became a writer and university professor but was killed in a car crash in 1964 after his first and only book, roads from the fort, was published in 1954. i read that book. it was fantastic! and then to find out that he died in a car crash coming home from teaching english to penitentiary inmates AND also having been a black widow pilot...well, somebody should model his airplane as a tribute, someone with expertise like you.. i looked but have not been able to finf his aircraft.

I've built this model of the p-61 Black Widow Revell148 it's not as detailed as the One You're Building like that light that had four or five parts you don't even have that if you didn't want a model is big and have it easier to build the Revell 1/48 it's a good model I fit everything fit fairly well the fuselage you have a lot of putty work to do for the two Booms to the tale connect to the wings and the body is a lot of filler to do and it's actually really good fit so nothing that some Putty can't fix filler putty whatever you want to use and after my paint job you can't even tell you looks like all one part

I always thought that it was a waste of time to extra detail an interior that won't be seen anyways. One of the reasons I put off building mine..
