I agree with you about the 3 base cavalry units being awkward. I guess the rules writer wanted the cavalry to have the same frontage as the combined pike & shot units. I wish we could form caracoles under these rules like the cantabrian circle or scythian column under the old WRG rules

Your opinion. Under spanish or netherlandish doctrine there should be mostly only caracole. P&S are good rules, with some drawbacks. They want to be fast & easy.
