Thankyou. I would go with the one that has a brushless moter. I like the Sport cub but the mother can be a weakness. I put bush wheels on and three coats of Minwax Polycryic for a bit more weight and protection. The true CG is 3.7mm from leading edge and mine lands perfectly with little elevator. Trim carefully and cut motor landing to protect the motor.

I still have a number of UMX planes with the stock brushed motors and have yet to ever have one go bad. These planes are almost 10 years old by now and still using the original motor. I haven't found a case in which a factory brushed motor goes bad in my plane. Actually, come to think of it, most of my RC cars still all run brushed motors. A few of those are 20 years old now and still on their original motor. I am not buying into the whole thing about brushed motors being bad. I would be hesitant to add that much weight to either of these planes with larger tires and that much Minwax. I can tell a difference on my large planes with just a single coat of Minwax. On the Micro XCub, I took off the wheels and just belly land in the grass.

That is good news. I think my motor began to fail after prop thrashing in taller grass landing without throttle cut and a few nose down crashes. It is fairly easy to replace them. Be real careful with the leads from battery to reciever.
@BRGT3504 күн бұрын
yeah, letting the motor run when the prop is impacting the grass would surely cause some problems. With my UMX planes, which almost all either land in the grass without the gear or on the water, I cut the power to zero about a foot off the ground.

@BRGT350 Now I do, too. With good CG I can land by cutting throttle a few feet off and needing very little elevator.

Great video. I'm getting into the hobby. Either one of these planes will be in my truck this spring, ....I want to fly the draco one day....maybe the micro d first
@BRGT350Ай бұрын
Either of those Cubs make a good place to start. I would also suggest getting RealFlight Evolution, which is on sale at the moment at HorizonHobby.com and practice on the sim along with one of the Cub trainers. That will set you up very well for the Micro DRACO. The larger DRACO takes a few more intermediate planes before attempting.

Excellent advice for beginners as always a great video

Thank you! Hopefully it will help people understand the differences from what looks like the same product. The durability of the XCub is really impressive and it is by far the most durable plane I have ever flown. The flight characteristics of the Sport Cub S2 align better with how I expect a Cub to fly, but the plane is more fragile. I think the Apprentice STOL might be the best compromise as it is more durable than the Sport Cub S2, but flies more like a larger model than the XCub, but also is pricier. The awesome thing is that a beginner has options now on how to get started on the hobby in terms of price point, subject matter, and size. When I started, there were very few options.

14:08 i have an AeroScout mini and am saving up for the XCub 450mm as my first experience with 4ch
@BRGT3506 ай бұрын
Take a look at the Apprentice STOL as it might be a better option. It has better durability compared to the Sport Cub S and a better flying experience than the XCub. Plus it is a little bigger and can handle wind better. You can't go wrong with the XCub, but wanted to give you another option that wasn't in the video. The AeroScout mini wasn't as good as the 1.1m, which is an outstanding trainer.

Also it needs to have the durability off teh Xcub, has to have SAFE and can't be much bigger that the mini scout

sounds like the XCub is going to be perfect for you. It is a good plane and I am enjoying flying it and having others try it out.
@alphablazegaming31092 ай бұрын
the nice thing about the sport cub S2 is that even if you wings are cracked (like mine) and a small piece of the tail is missing (again like mine) is that it still flies very well as for the Xcub i dont know because i only have the sport cub
@BRGT3502 ай бұрын
Having both, the Sport Cub S2 is really fragile compared to the XCub. I have had people with zero flight experience try out the XCub and Micro P-51, most of them hit the ground pretty hard as they figure out how to fly, and neither has had any damage. Impacts that big with the Sport Cub would have destroyed it. However, the Sport Cub S2 is a better flying plane than either of the micros.

The Xcub looks like the volantex sport cub 500, maybe you should compare those 2. They’re exactly alike, trust me.
@BRGT3506 ай бұрын
It isn't the Volantex Sport Cub 500. They look similar, but they aren't the same airframes. The XCub 450 AS3X and SAFE tuning was done by the Horizon air development team.

Would anyone who purchases 1 of these planes kindly check whether the S-bus and DSM satellite receiver sockets, that are on the original TopRC versions of this re-brand, are still present on the flight board on this? If they are, then secondly, could they check whether a satellite receiver plugged into 1 of those sockets (add a DSM if you use a Spektrum radio) will still allow you to control the plane as with the original TopRC edition?

yep! sure is! I picked up last year and I really enjoy it. I wanted a nice scale boat to use on my pond and the Swift Boat is perfect for that. I can turn on the lights and go out for an evening patrol. The detail on it is awesome! It is like a scale model. Also on the shelf is a 1/10 version of my Ford Mustang and Ford Focus.

The orange one is a recolored Volantex. Comparing these 2 is just not the same crop of apples. Neither here nor there. the Xcub was sold out instantly and is Not available again till after October.
@BRGT3506 ай бұрын
It isn't Volantex. I am 100% sure of it. These will continue to be popular and I expect them to be tough to get for a while. I would agree that comparing the two isn't a fair comparison, which is also why I wanted to compare them. On paper or looking at them on the website, you might think they are more similar than they are.
@richardchapman63406 ай бұрын
No, it's not a Volantex cub , it's made by top rc, and it has a shorter wing span .
