After using the Thule Hullavator and Yakima showdown which both required you to completely lift the kayak off the ground it was too much for my back, this simple Rhino side loader is the easiest solution I have found to date. Would love to hear about your solutions and what works for you in the comments below!

Thanks for this video, I've been looking at the Thule Hullavator but sometimes keeping it simple is the best way.

Glad you found it useful. Simple is always best. Both the hullavator and yakima showdown require you to lift the entire weight of the kayak up to chest height to load

Is the Outback a super heavy yak?

Nice video mate, ill be doing exactly the same as just bough an outback, do you transport it hull down?
@outbackshadz38092 жыл бұрын
Yes hull down, Dont use ratchet straps just cam buckle tie downs so you dont overtighten.

I did that for a while then bought a ford transit , boom straight in the back ;)

That will be the easiest!

How come you got rid of the other set up mate ?

Honestly the Thule hullavator gas struts stopped working and you cant replace them you basically have to buy a new unit. I then bought the yakima showdown and that was great if you have a light kayak, but the problem with both those systems is you have to lift the entire kayak from the ground to chest height in order to place it on the carriers, after hours on the water and with the outback being a heavier boat it was too straining for my back. This solutions is so simple and yet so effective at managing the weight

So do you think the yakima loader was better than the thulle loader? I have an older forester that's not that high off the ground. Might be a bit easier.

Yes definitely if you’re willing to completely lift your kayak off the ground to load. Yakima is about half the price and weight of the Thule. Once the gas struts die on the Thule it’s useless and not replacable you have to buy a new unit. Very poor design.
