I just bought this for $799. And then got 2 Renogy solar panels for $189. Under $1,000 for a 1500 watt solar generator. I have it charging right now on the solar panels. The charger was inputting 216 watts, and the 2 x100 watt panels are putting in 190 watts. So even with just 2 panels, I should be able to keep it charged up while camping in our rv.

Thanks for the info on the pouch cells. Wonder how they are configured, series and parallel etc. Will Prowse pointed out the 10A connector kind of forces you to use series panels to stay below the rating on the connector and get the voltage to make the 500 watts. I've watched his review, the LoLoHo review, and this review. You make your reviews kind of fun, which is great. There's a lot to this product. I hope for serious competition and solutions to some of the quirks. Price should come down.
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
The 12 cells are configured 4S3P. I could run a series-parallel of 4x100w panels to still stay under 10 amps, but Will is correct in that the limitation is the connector. Still, $1109 is a great deal on this.

I purchased this a couple weeks ago. Here's my thoughts. I run my house pellet stove running on low all night long on a single charge and it is drawing an average of 200watts. I say average because the auger will kick in and go above that but then drops down to about 170 and the fans have different speeds as well. Handles it no problem. I ran a space heater drawing 947 watts until I got tired of watching it and ran no problem. I charged cell phones, flashlights and even ran the food saver on it all perfect performance across the board. It's a little heavy but not so much that it would prevent me from using it in any application. Highly recommend it however, there are some issues. I am running this off my 375watt (open circuit) 9.38amp solar panel on my roof. This thing is rated at 500watt (open circuit) and 10amp. To be able to run the cables the 30ft I need to with some safety in mind you should run 10AWG wire. So why then, does this thing come with a 16awg adapter from mc4 to 8mm cable that shouldn't run that load at any length in my book? Try finding and adapter, not easy. Don't buy the Goal Zero plug either as they had to go and be different and the Anderson connectors are proprietary (the connections are orientated differently). My solution is not yet known. I am trying to find an 8mm to Anderson to mc-4 in 10 AWG. I do plan to buy a 2nd one for the other panel on my roof. Hope they fix this. After thought: you can expand this system to include another Bluetti (kind of). You use the charger on the back of the first one to charge the second one. I tested it and you only loose 20 watts in the conversion. I know it will take a long time to charge with solar and you have to plug into different units but, if you only have the one system it's an option. If anyone has a solution please comment. I am watching daily
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
You never stated the voltage of your 375w panel but I have to guess it is a residential running 48 volts. At that voltage, you only have a 5% drop for a 60ft round trip at 16AWG. How electricity works through cables is that the gauge per length acts as a resistor. So if you have a 10AWG solar cable that is 30ft it will only lose 1.25% over that distance (60ft total), and then for the last 2 feet or so through the 16AWG adapter (4ft total) you'll lose an additional 0.6%. So you see you really don't need a heavier adapter especially when you're talking 48-60 volts. The calculator I used is here: www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html

At this point in time, discount coupon is now at $100.00. This product beats the newer Inergy solar generator in that it enables use of solar panels that we already have as opposed to being forced to use Inergy's propiatory and overpriced solar panels (which require nonstandard connectors that are not rated for outdoor use). That was the reason for not buying the newer Inergy solar generator model. With the discounts, the price is right. In a grid fown situation when the gasoline supply runs out, solar is the ideal means of powering electronic devices. However, I do feel that solar panels are highly visible and a target of some envious person(s) who want them. So I have been thinking of ways to keep them out of sight. It is a thorny problem.

If a full size house refrigerator runs just under 800 watts, does that mean the Bluetti can run a house refrigerator for 1500 / 800 = 1.87 hours? If the typical mini fridge uses 100 watts, the Bluetti can power it for up to 15 hours?
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Refrigerators cycle. If it says 800w that is startup power, not constant power. Most modern energy star fridges consume about 200-400w while running and they only run maybe 20 minutes an hour. The only way to tell is to use a Kill-A-Watt to measure your fridge. At 400w running 33% of the time that's 132wh. Bluetti 1500wh/132wh *0.85 for the inverter = About 9.5 hours. Smaller dorm fridge uses a lot less.

here's a thought, if you wanted something like this but don't actually have the money for it but let's say you have an old pure sine wave generator sitting around that you don't use anymore. Simply strip the motor out of the generator buy yourself a bunch of batteries and fit them into the space where the motor used to be hook up your pure sine wave inverter that's in the old generator and you have a pure sine wave battery powered portable power unit. Of course you will need to make a few extra changes, but you only have to pay the price of the batteries. Some of those old gasoline generators have a nice plastic box with digital display all you need do is trace where the wiring goes and you have a system ready to use at a fraction of the price. You might also find an old junk generator in a junk yard for a few dollars, so long as all the bits work even if the motor doesn't you have all you need to make a decent project. Failing that you could just get a box a few sockets an invertor and so on and use an old computer case to make your own power bank, as for the handle, can't find that sturdy rubberised handle at a decent price, just make a handle out of rope and attach a couple of metal rings to the side for the rope to hook onto. But it really does depend on how handy you are, and making it yourself you can have as big a system as you want. it's just a thought.

what about sound?
@flitsies5 жыл бұрын
@@rodjammcam8603 What sound are you talking about, if you take out the engine what sound is there? The sound of the fan on your 2 kw inverter that cost you a fraction of the price of the other machine being show cased. Most of those old generators with a case have at least a 2 kw inverter I believe. Or the sound of you lugging those lithium batteries across your yard to fit them into the case. Actually they ain't that heavy. That's the appeal of these battery powered boxes they are quiet, pretty much all they are tends to be an inverter with a battery then you have to consider charging the battery, but if you get a lithium battery off ebay many of them come with their own charger. So let's say you have an old generator, cost you nothing, you buy a battery cost you $500 depending on what you want, could be more could be less, depending on how big the box is you fit it in the box wire it up and you got a box power unit for $500 bucks, don't need to worry about charging cos the battery comes with it's own charger, if you buy from the right seller on ebay of course. You might even get it cheaper cos the USA has lots of lithium cells on sale I believe, the UK doesn't. You can get hold of cheap metering to check how much charge is in your battery and you could even if you wanted fit thermal indicators probably wouldn't be needed so long as you get a decent battery that will come with its own BMS unit. It's just a thought mind, you would need to do a little working out not much though.

I'd like to get one for free to do a review. I've been off grid for the last 5 years and just running off of panels in my cabin

This is exactly the type of product I need when pg&e did the power shutoff in my area. I wouldn't mind seeing how it would do in an emergency situation

Good review Tom, glad to see that portable power packs are starting to get their act together, and I suspect largely influenced by the DIY Powerwall community which I'm active in! If I had one of these I'd hack the front panel and add a female XT60 connector for more charging compatibility.

I'd do the same, after warranty.

I didn't read through all 800 comments, but curious why there was no mention of the kodiak inergy solar generator as a comparison. It has 6 outlets and only weighs 25 lbs also a 1500w
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
1) The Kodiak is no longer for sale 2) When it was for sale it was $1500 3) I only compare to products I personally review. I don't like to speculate.

Yo Tom! You experience the screen going out on this or the EB240 yet? Read about that is some groups. Think it is based on the screen being in the sun, or the unit as a whole?

I bought one, thanks for the discount code. The 4 yr warranty is $80 with another company, not Amazon. It would be nice if there was a good 12volt 15amp out port not just cigarette receptacle. Also a ground terminal to connect to trailer frame. I have an Everchill DC compressor fridge I would like to put on a switch between house battery and Bluetti but fridge manual says it must have 12v 15a and trailer ground.
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Look into the Suaoki G1000 review that I just did. It has a regulated 15 amp output. And you only need a ground to the trailer if you're powering with AC.

Funny, my cheepo Aeiusny 500W power supply has a loud beeping alarm and a flashing red LED when the charge gets below 13.5%. I still love the Bluetti or in my case the Blacketti. (-;

Great video, but not being able to charge this thru the car 12volt connection is a deal breaker for me. I’m going to use this to mostly power a refrigerator and coffee pot, on a long road trip, solar panels would not work on my Jeep Grand Cherokee nor do I have a generator. I will keep looking. Thanks again for the video.
