All right, that's five episodes in a row. I've got to stop. Dont know if I can. This is great. Only quible, I wish they would be updating equipment & rink changes as they go along. Maybe it will be covered in an upcoming episode.

The last couple years of Willie O'Ree's career was with the San Diego Sharks of the Pacific Southwest Hockey League. At that time(1976) I was eight years old living in East Bay Area. My parents divorced and my mother took my sister and I with her to live at my grandmother's in San Diego. There, my uncles, Bob & Mike Garcia, were also playing for the San Diego Sharks. There were a few ex NHL'ers on that team, by far, Willie was the most popular. Of course, I wasn't aware of Willie's importance to the game but, over time (2 yrs) I learned about the role he served directly from Willie himself! He told stories of his experience(s) in the locker room often. He came to my grandmother's home for a birthday celebration for my uncles. He showed up with gifts for my uncles in one arm and a huge bouquet of flowers for my grandmother in the other. By that time, he and I had become familiar and he joked around quite a bit, always got me to laugh. Presently, he is considered and named the Ambassador of Youth Hockey in the United States. If I saw him today, I wonder if he would remember me?? Thanks for reading

Why all the Canadian/American bashing back and forth? The 2 countries are inseparable. We fight side by side on the battlefields around the world. We share sports leagues. We have a porous border. Trade, culture, language, music. Canadians and Americans are brothers. No need to fight. Canada has more of a hockey culture and has dominated the sport but they often become Americans, playing for US teams, getting dual citizenship, and raising their families in US cities. Even Gretz is now an American citizen, married to an American, and his kids will one day play for the US team. Americans and Canadians are essentially the same people.

+Tony Gambino Great comment, I love Canada and I love hockey. I live on the boarder near the falls. Canada and Western NY always felt the same to me. The States are strange though, each region is vastly different with different histories, cultures, cuisine, temperaments, and sports preferences. Hockey is the prime sport in my region, its football or baseball in others. America is not really united in the sense of every American being similar. Down South feels like another country while Canada feels like the same country to people on or near the boarder.

I live on the Border in the United States, With my wife of Forty four years, My mother was a Canadian, and my dad was an American, I go to both countries many times, I love both Countries we no longer Bickering between Citizens, I fought in the Vietnam War and even then some Canadians Signed up to fight, no matter how things Got, Canada's Along side when things go bad here in the U.S. and Vice Versa. We are a nation Forever Bonded together, and we must share this Great game of Hockey which I almost had a career in but I was drafted into the Vietnam War and so ended a dream, but I bounced back, just like anything would and will. We both have beautiful nations, our landscapes are still there through it all. Lets all remember both Countries are young Compared to the nation of Europe. When Canada became its own nation the U.S. Helped us Along to grow and become a Good nation. Yes there are lots of Differences but our Countries can Work it out. Michigan and Ontario Are practically the same for me as I grew up on the Border of the Two. I know the Southern States are practically another Country but the United states Wouldn't be what they are had they not been there.

@AJP_17 Жыл бұрын
Yes, as a bruins fan it is quite obvious that the two had a deep rivalry in the 50s. BUT, the Bruins weren’t terribly successful like the Habs and Wings. They were the two muscles of the decade battling it out. It was basically one of those two who were going to win the cup on a year to year basis.

I am American and understand this is a Canadian series, but I wish they would spend at least a little bit of time talking about the Production Line in Detroit. Abel, Lindsay, and Howe were all Canadian, and they had a huge impact on the sport, and though they talk about Howe for a little bit, I was just hoping to see more about the greatest line of all time. After all, this is a documentary on the history of hockey, and yes it is a Canadian series, but the Production Line was Canadian too, despite it's home being the Motor City.

The bias of this documentary is so clear right now, treating Richard like he was completely innocent and was punished too harshly. Under no circumstances is it okay to strike a linesmen, especially punching him twice in the face and rendering him unconscious,
@ericbeaulieu48438 жыл бұрын
No it's never o.k to bash a linesman,but other players were hitting,tripping and playing downright dirty ,'cause they couldn't match Richard's skills .And lets not forget ,he'd been bashed over the head .So in his anger,he was bloodied and couldn't see ,he bashed a linesman .But don't you think Clarence Campbell doused oil on the fire ,by attending that game at the Montreal Forum ?

The linesman was holding Richard (from behind, holding both of his arms) while he was getting punched in the face by a Boston bruins player. Thats where it all started
@ryanlanglois28867 жыл бұрын
What the documentary also leaves out that the Richard movie didn't is the fact the linesman purposely held Richard by the jersey and let his opponent punch him several times unable to defend himself. I guess the linesman didn't do that to any more French players and as far as I'm concerned he got what he had coming and it sent a message that French players wouldn't put up with being mistreated by the league as was common place at the time.

In my humble opinion as an American, Canada should have more than seven NHL teams. the following Canadian cities should have NHL franchises;Saskatoon, Hamilton, Quebec City and Halifax. And I know of a easy way to get these teams. Relocate any NHL team that exists in a U.S. State that succeeded from the Union. So that would mean the Florida Panthers, the Nashville Predators, the Tampa Bay Lighting and the Carolina Hurricanes should be relocated to the fore mentioned Canadian cities. Hockey in the U.S. is and always will be popular in northern states that have cold winters. It will never be a game that has nationwide appeal. Now, many naysayers will mention California. And I admit, California has pockets of solid hockey loving territory. But California has always been and still is a state that receives Americans from all fifty states. There are many native Californians who are crazy hockey fans whether Sharks, Ducks, or Kings fans. Nevertheless, hockey in California was started by Canadians and Americans from the traditional hockey territories of the U.S.
@TheTjoconnor10 жыл бұрын
Quebec City might have enough money for that to work, but every other city you named would be too small to really support an NHL team.
@CNep9910 жыл бұрын
Because it's just outrageous to spread the sport. You're not Canadian, but I'm sure you're from the north, and that's almost as bad. I don't understand why you guys have to be butthurt about hockey being played in different places. Also, the Preds and Lightning are the best teams in each conference right now, and the Panthers also are in the running for a wildcard...maybe even top 3 if they keep up their good play. Also, the Canes and Lightning have each won a Cup much more recently than a Canadian team and the Panthers have also been to a Finals. Not to mention the Stars, who've been to two finals and won 1. Face it, southern hockey is where it's at.

Cullen Bohannon Not the Lighting.
@aboriginalbrotha99479 жыл бұрын
+Cullen Bohannon Hamilton can't have an NHL team because the Sabres and Leafs don't want a team there because of the NHL rules. NHL rules states that a team cannot be 50 miles of another market. The city of Hamilton is actually Sabres and Leafs territory and any move or expansion will be blocked by both. The Predators are in good shape in Nashville because of an improved ownership and good teams. The Lighting are going nowhere because Tampa support the Lighting very well. Carolina and Florida are currently have poor teams which drop down attendance numbers. When the Blackhawks were bad, nobody didn't want to come to their games.

A simple. 5 minute acknowledgement once in the series is sufficient. Women made no huge strides in the popularity to this day with over 80 years of them playing. I'm tired of Hearing of Stupid Womens hockey, Hockey Was made by Men and perfected by men, not Woman, Women do not belong in the NHL, the One Women Who tried in the NHL as a Goalie, barely had any Shots, yet let in Two goals, in Nine Minutes in like Five Shots, Terry Sawchuck was way better, in fact I think Hardy Astrom Would've been better and he was a Sieve and a Swede. Shut up with trying to Please the Feminists and Talk about real hockey which was the NHL and AHL. Thats my Opinion, I'm not some kid Who has no life, I'm a retired Hockey player, who played Junior in the 1960's but I had the Displeasure of being Drafted to fight for my Country the Summer before the Blackhawks training Camp which I had been invited to for September. I was Drafted into the US Military in 1966, the year I turned Twenty, the year I could have made it. but I ended up in Vietnam, but back to the Subject, I am tired of Womens Hockey being 20% of these Documentaries, they should use that part to be about Americans in the Game. I understand it is Canadian, don't forget both countries influenced the game, like the U.S. they are Talking more about the Soviet Union than the U.S. Who won the Gold Medal in 1960.

Documentary isn't about the NHL, it's about Hockey and it's inseparable connection to Canadian culture. Women's hockey has been a thing here since the 1920s or earlier and isn't going away. Hell our Women's Olympic team won the last 4 gold medals and probably get the next one as well, unless the USA team finally figures out how to beat them.
