Class centres are real gems in rugby.. Line breaking vision = Danie Gerber Brute power = Ma’a Nonu Blade cutting accuracy = Brian O’Driscol Wizardry = Jaques Fourie Selfless and genial gameplay = Lukanyo Am Freak of nature = Sonny Bill Williams.. Captain my Captain = Jean De Villiers.. Master of midfield Finesse = Tim Horan.. No team in Rugby Union can flourish if a centre pair is out of shape.. There’s no use trying to search for the “best ever” either.. Here I only mentioned southern hemisphere names with the exception of O’Driscol.. Don’t forget the likes of another Irish player Bundee Aki.. Anyone of these guys can or could have turned a game upside down in their time.. What a beautiful game!!

He read a game like it is child’s play. He is grounded and selfless as squid said he could have scored that try instead of passing the ball to Mapimpi however Am knew how important that world cup was for Mapimpi. He shared that try with a hero's heart.
@JannieFourie-n7c7 ай бұрын
Am did not make the last RWC squad because he had a injury.There was a injury just before the knock out stages and Am was called up as a replacement.He did not play a single game or even make the match day squad.This was brilliant from coach Rassie because Am was breaking down the opposing sides backlines and mimicking the oposition centres in the practice sessions.

Good to watch a new fan of rugby learning and observing the magic of the game in general and the South African Springboks in particular.

4:40 When the Springboks won the world cup first in 1995, and again in 2007, both games had no tries for either team, only penalty kicks. So the Mapimpi try was significant. Am set that up though, and he could easily have taken it himself too. EDIT: I should have watched on before commenting :)

And I should have kept reading haha. That's a wild stat though. How common is it for games to not have any tries?
@rudierasmus81627 ай бұрын
@@EamonnReacts it really isn't common but in tournament finals both teams usually wait for the opposing team to make mistakes, therefore penalty kicks are common in finals

With the south african players of Bantu descent like Am and Mapimpi, pronunciation of the vowels in our names is a bit different to English. The a's in Lukhanyo Am are pronounced as aaaah, e's are not silent at the end of a word like with Makazole Mapimpi and are pronounced like the é in the Latin languages. I's are pronounced like -ee-, Os are pronounced like oh but not ending with the soft h, but an abrupt end, and u's are pronounced like a long drawn out oooh, like when you see someone eat dirt hard😂

A lot of foreign English speakers (including commentators) also got tripped up by "ph" not being "f" and butchered poor Lawrence Sephaka's name for his whole career.

12:11 correct Faf is also an extremely reactive player but the Bokke also like using codes for plays so who knows what the deal is there. Am is one of my all time favourite Boks. His fast has incredible ball handling can smash any player in a tackle and to top it off is very quiet and humble. His intelligence on the field is also unrivalled by most.

I seriously can't wait for episode 2 on Sunday. Gave us a good insight of what happened preparing for the world cup and Rassie admitting he fudged up on social media with that video of Nick Berry. Springbok fan here and more pertinently, Lukhanyo Am fan as well. He is an absolutely fantastic centre. But is he our best player? He is certainly up there, but I wouldn't single out anyone in our team. Suffice it to say that my biased take is that he is the best 13 in the world. New Zealanders would disagree. The Irish wpuld disagree. The French would probably threaten me with a guillotine. But I am backing our boy to be the best in his position.
