I love how you don't shy away from failure. It's actually amazing to watch. You put in so much time and effort and we can see the pain and disappointment on your face when a bow project breaks, but you shake yourself off, do your best to identify what went wrong, and move on to the next thing. Truly inspirational!

I think it's your positive attitude and perseverance past failure that makes these videos so fun to watch. I know how much time and effort it takes to work on these 'will-it' projects and I feel the pain and disappointment every time you break a bow. Seeing you go back and try again is just awesome.

You are literally such an inspiration. Keep doing what you're doing! Please, for the sake of my mind right now during the pandemic, I need something to do. You inspired me to buy my second bow which will be a recurve bow. I'm a big fan of your work and your channel. I also tried to build my own bow which failed but the process was fun and rewarding. Please keep this up!

Back when we were kids my grandfather would get us to go around and pick up old hockey sticks from the rinks in the area. I think they were made out of hickory. Then he showed us how to make bows out of them. Add a handle and taught us how to tiller, make bow strings and arrows. They were a great little bow. We hunted rabbits and partridge, did some bow fishing and had a 3 d coarse back before they were popular. I still have one of my old bows. get it out and shoot it now and then. What a great idea my grandfather came up with.

I think the issue here is what known in mechanical engineering as "Stress Concentration". Which is basically what happens when you have sharp corners or a sudden change in cross-section area. Overlapping the pieces and making the transition smoother might fix that issue.

Ya .... Thanks for posting my comment on your channel... I saw the Easton and thought nope. Just being Canadian and knowing what its made of. But good thing you didn't get a fiberglass stick those split something fearce. A good wooden stick like a Sherwood might of been better. But I do love the build. And the reason for the wood in the blade is the Easton composite sticks were for changing your blade of the stick. Stay safe...

So close. Definitely worth another video with a triple or quadruple lamination of flat peices. I feel like if you hadn't have been working with a lamination that had a weak spot where it had broken before it would have bowed. Excellent video regardless, I started building bows at the start of lockdown and your channel has inspired me and informed me so much. Thank you for doing what you do.😊

Kinda odd you went with the carbon fiber twig first. Those sticks were designed to break easily (blame the 90's) and also to have major whip/play with them. What flex did you decide to use when you bought the stick? If it were me, I would have gone down three roads with this build. 1: use wood sticks, good old fashion Sherwood pmp 5030 twigs. 2: use two 100 carbon fiber twigs, cut the blades off till it looks like a butt end, flip them and make an adapter where the real butt ends meet and are glued/connected by that adapter. Now your major flex zones will be on the ends and the rigid section will be in the middle. 3: get your hands on pro-stock twigs. They have a higher tolerance than what mere mortals can get their hands on. Best bet to get your hands on them is to go to the the training rink of a major team, bribe the 'boni driver with a 12 pack and he will hand you a bucket of discarded sticks from the team. Oh and if you want to see something that will blow your mind, goof around with a carbon fiber goalie paddle, those are wicked. If you want to be really cruel...really really evil...Get an Aluminium hockey stick...

Not only will the composite eat your saw blades, you really need to wear a respirator when cutting or sanding it. It's either going to be graphite, glass, or kevelar (or a combination of those). Very hard materials that are brutal to cutters, and that dust is all nasty for breathing.

Try "V" cutting the ends about 8-9 inches and close them. You will keep the sides intact but gradually decrease the mass. This is similar to using PVC. The material is strong if it's braced on all sides. You could have probably made a long bow by stringing up the stick

I DON'T BELIEVE IT! Hey Kramer, I thought you'd choose WOODEN hockey sticks. Composite hockey Sticks? Just nothing to do with that. I have made a couple of bows with wooden hockey sticks, but never ever with composite. And you'll dul your bandsaw for sure; Iknow, I DID it. Anyway, let's get back to the video and see how you fare. Question... Consider each of two identical 'heavy flex' hockey sticks, to be your pair of limbs... They flex as they are... The handle and the blade were already reinforced... So perhaps those are ready for a handle piece, and for nock tips... Perhaps you have the pieces for a crazy warbow...

Just saying, if you took the 2nd bow at the point when you do the 1st stringing, cut a V groove at both tips and glued in siyahs, you'd get better performance. The wood handle section could even be extended and have thin wooden limbs going the entire ways across the inside walls, then cut the siyahs in the hockey stick and wooden limb. Then you'd just put a backing on the wooden limbs to act like sinew, the hockey stick would work like the horn, and of course the wooden handle with limbs being the bow blank. It a vague idea that just popped in my head i'm positive you could elaborate and work it out. Edit: Upon more thinking I think the first bow would end up better than keeping the walls on. There has to be a taper or a different combo of materials to keeps the walls on there.

When you make a bord bow normally about how thick are your bow limbs. I know there are plans for the dimensions on a prior video with the poplar but the end thickness was not mentioned. I'm just trying to get an idea of when it is thin enough to start putting a real string on for tillering because i have broken a few bows now when trying to put a real string on for the first. Time

I wonder if it would have been possible to make a it from two English hockey sticks. Perhaps you could have scarfed them together like the 'pallet bow'? I'm sure it would have been better timber than the wood from a pallet. They are commonly made from ash, mulberry or hickory.

So, why not try making a bow entirely out of homemade fiberglass laminate? Seems like you could make composite bows pretty effectively too. I could see you making something like what we would see on the shelf at a sporting goods store. I’ve occasionally glanced at my bow since I got it, thinking about how simple the construction is, and wondering how difficult the forms and materials are, and if I really need to buy a bandsaw yet.
