How To Install a Tacki-Mac Hockey Grip Tape Alternative Instructions

These are the instuctions on how to apply Tacki-Mac onto your stick. Hairspray is a better alternative than the supplied sticky paper which makes it easier to remove afterwards for more use.

I felt so sorry for the product and myself after trying it with warm soapy water and double sided tape - the tape curled under itself after the end was on, and the rest was pure struggle. I ripped it all off thinking to use the tape, but then I found this. After pillaging my wifes cosmetics cabinet my grip was on in 20 seconds. Good stuff!

I struggled with the factory instructions for over an hour and ruined one of the grips by trying to use Vice Grips to get the darn thing on there. I was so embarrassed for myself once i saw this video. Thanks so much, now i dont have to throw these stupid things in the garbage. Hopefully they perform well and dont allow the stick to rotate within the grip Thanks so much!

Make sure you let them fully dry first! I have found some twist but you can re-apply the hairspray and it should be better.

Tried to stick the goalie plug version on with that crap adhesive solvent tape provided. Ended up having a fun 30 minutes of struggling twisting the thing down the shaft because i forgot to remove plug off the top of the stick which gave the install resistance when twisting. Removed all that tape off the stick, grabbed the hairspray and finished in 10 seconds.

I followed the instructions on the pack, it was phenomenally hard, took ten minutes, the bottom stretched too much, and my hands are very sore. Your method is much better.

This video is even more helpful now that Tacki Mac's website says this: "WE CAN NO LONGER BUY WATER ACTIVATED TAPE. YOUR NEW PACKAGING MIGHT HAVE SOLVENT TAPE WHICH WILL HAVE IT WRITTEN ON TAPE SO YOU KNOW WHICH ONE YOU HAVE. INSTEAD OF WATER/SOAP YOU WILL NEED TO USE EITHER MINERAL SPIRITS OR PAINT THINNER TO ACTIVATE THE GLUE ON TAPE."

I came here looking for this info. I've been using these on my kids' sticks for maybe 4-5 years, always been the water activated. Was surprised when I went to install one I got today and it said it needed solvent. Does it work better?

Thanks for the video. No issues if it gets a little wet from sweat or melted snow or anything over time, still stay in place?

When you take them on an off a bunch, they can get stretched a bit and can move around. But usually reapply hairspray will fix it or you can add a bit of tape to the stick underneath to ensure it is secure. But no real issues on the 1st application

I've tried the Tacki-Mac and had to cut the rubber end down. The product was alright but I was looking for something compared to the old school Gretzky gripper and I was told buttendz was the closest. So considering you do a lot of reviews I was wondering about your input.

Installed my second one on a new stick, took less than a minute.I don’t have hair spray, so I used some washing up liquid in a tablespoon of water, and put that on the inside of the grip. The supplied instructions are pants.

Just grip it and twist lightly, if you can feel it move it isn't ready. Usually takes around 5 hours to actually dry completely.

Now the tackimac website has a video and the guy says to use one drop of dish soap, not dawn, in a glass of hot water. So I'm confused.

I've used/installed about 15 Tacki-Macs and the only time I ever had a grip slide around was after putting it on a second stick and after it got hit with a puck and started to rip.

I've applied at least 20 of these and have never had a ripping issue... hair spray and twisting makes it easy.
