Well the Hodinkee-shaped hoor in the watch media landscape has been filled by other media, like Monochrome, Fratello, Worn and Wound, Time and Tide and others. I dont think they ever be close to what they once were and I agree with your expectations that they'll start selling stuff again as soon as they see an uptick in the market. We'll see what happens but I don't have high hopes. Glad to see you're doing better man, hope you'll be done with that shit soon!

Thoughts on if or how Hodinkee ruined Crown & Caliber? That used to be my first stop to check out used watches but after getting into the hobby more I realized they're way over priced. They post on the high end even when the watch doesn't come with B&P. They constantly offer discounts but even then it's at the top end of secondary market or OVER retail.

It might just be my opinion, but I think Hodinkee killed Crown & Caliber. I used to love them. I bought multiple watches from them. But after Hodinkee came onboard prices went up and trade-in values went down.

That's the trouble with positioning yourselves as taste makers-You need to both have taste and be likeable enough to propagate it. The first one is always going to be debatable, but I can't imagine many like their Ivy League Preppy Bois/Neo Bohemian wastels duality. I don't know who actually calls the shots there - how much is owned by LVMH and True Ventures - but this might not be entirely Ben's decision. Their inventory will never be worth what they paid for it, so they're going to be staring at bright red bottom line for as long as it takes to write down the value of the assets. With their image wrecked, I don't see the luxe brands being particularly anxious to do more collabs, so "back to basics" is pretty much all that's left.

I think that we have probably experienced the last big price bubble for high-end horology...the march of the smartwatch continues unabated, and those who would have become the new prospective Rolex and Cartier and Tutor and Longines and Breguet customers will instead be focused on a device that can monitor their health as well as tell the time...and do this for a fraction of the price of a well branded and marketed mechanical watch.
