Great interview with someone who is personable and relatable. Refreshing not to see a ‘flex’ or ‘investment’ mindset and just a great collector who has finessed his collection over time to what he loves, also a great job by Nora. More like this please H

Yeah I always hated the investment ideology on watches, mostly because if I collect something is because I want it forever. Not to mention the market pricings for certain brands and models fluctuate way too much, I'm hearing about people taking more hit than profits

Did he made that much money to be able to afford Patek, Vacheron as a crane operator ?
@AssyMcgeeKicksAce2 ай бұрын
@@wqsnsr8he probably did, but this guy was single until his mid 30s with no kids until 5 years ago, that’s a lot of extra money to save when you’re not raising a family. And being a union lobbyist is definitely a large pay bump.

Great profile...a refreshing collector story. Allen seems like a mature collector who's gone his own way and picked out some amazing pieces during that journey (after all, he went for the Cellini...). Allen - thanks for sharing your collection. That VC is sharp!

Appreciate more of a “regular” guy being profiled as opposed to the millionaire movie stars, sports celebrities, and musicians you usually feature. I typically pass on those as when you have that much to spend, who really cares what you choose. Prefer people who have to take more care in how they spend their funds on their collection and what they select.

Just superb, Hodinkee! Beautifully shot and edited. Nora, excellent interviewing, and how can anyone not love Allen? Obviously a hard-working, charming fellow with sophisticated, interesting taste and fun, relatable stories of the timeline of his obsession. To see someone closer to “one of us” (i.e. a non-celebrity) is not only refreshing, rewarding, but gives one some hope perhaps our collections can grow and evolve as Allen’s has.

Best Hodinkee video in a while, ironically watching it in the shadow of a crane from a tall building that's going up next to my office. Probably not 5 watches I'd wear, but I've so much respect for someone who clearly loves the hobby and done it all without mentioning so much as a spec or 'current market value'. Happy early birthday Mr Wright, best of luck with the sports car and keep fighting the good fight with the union.

Allen has a really unique collection of watches. I think his collection truly showed who he is as a person. By day, its rough and rugged and his AP showed that but by night he can dress up and throw on his VC or Rolex or Patek. Of all the watches he showed my favorite is that Pointer Date Cellini Rolex. Happy early birthday Allen!

“They’re little pieces of art you get to wear everywhere …” I agree! Unpretentious. Genuine. Down to Earth. Cool. Best Talking Watches episode ever! Thank you for featuring the collection of a regular guy who we can all relate to that has an extraordinary collection of watches that have real-world meaning to his life. Loved the family photos and stories about how he is sharing his passion and watching that same passion grow within them. It’s a beautiful thing to see. This guy’s high-level of taste goes well beyond watch collecting. I found myself admiring the artwork and decor in his beautiful home, too. Plus, it is nice seeing someone who looks like me that shares a similar love of watch collecting who is not a professional basketball player, actor or recording artist. I, too, purchased a fantastic watch (a JLC) for my 50th birthday and completely understand why he will never sell that Royal Oak. It would have been an extra cool bonus to have his wife join the conversation and share her most beloved pieces, too. Thank you, Hodinkee! More of this and less of that please. ❤ P.S. I’m digging those specs, Nora! Great job on the interview.
