The difference between these films and batmans is, we didn't watch batman grow up over the years, so saying daniel is harry is totally true which will make loads of folk hate it. I wonder how JK will deal with this as she wont want her UK fans being left out, with HBO wanting it

WB has rebooted Batman how many times? James Bond wasn't really rebooted until they changed the entire cast. Bond was still going off a series of books. Batman is adapted from a comic book and has been around for almost 100 years. There is a lot to draw from fir those characters. HO is retelling the sane story. That said, I've been wanting to do this. There are huge scenes tgat could be shown that were just single paragraphs in the books. If I was doing it The constrains would be: keep the characters on point to who they are in the book. No Dumbledor shoving and yelling at Harry like in The Goblet if Disappointment. No changing the plot. See the same film. No adding bad details like Barty Jr.'s darting tongue. He isn't a snake. Try to recreate what is in the book as accurately as possible. Lack of constraints. I don't care if every episode has a different run time andc every season has a different amount of episodes. The book lengths varied greatly. Adding enhancing details when and where appropriate. The books wee usually, bit not always, told from Harry's perspective. I would play more with perspective. Have scenes that follow Hermoine into the never seen gils' dorm (nothing inappropriate of course), follow Draco to the never seen Slytherine dungeon dorms, or Cedric into his. I was to explore more of Hogwarts. Spend more time learning school abd wizard history and more about other schools, which, other than Goblet, is never done. I think all this can be done naturally and without even adding any new characters. And the viewer would become mare attached to the other houses, siluch as Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, abd even see Slytherin as not purely evil if we see what makes each house unique from their point of view. Not a concern: If HBO is behind it, I am not concerned about the quality of the effects and locations. Actual concern: The cast. Nothing moreso than this. Particularly for the kids, they need to be at least as close in looks to the book characters as the film actors. Kid actors are always a gamble. Can they act? Will they get lucky and have a Neville who starts out believable chubby and awkward and end up a man you buy could have been a true foe of Voldemort if he had marked him instead of Harry? You don't know where puberty will take a kid. How will the kid survive off camera? Crabbe or Goyle vanished from the films because the actor was busted selling drugs. Will fame go to their head and become impossible to work with? Will they get caught up in drugs? And/or have mental breakdowns (Britney Spears/Amanda Bynes, who just git another 5250 hold put on her.) (Or just like Arya and Sansa, where they were great, but the actresses got stoned together every night after work when at the same set. But never before work.) The film adults were UK A-listers. How do you replace them? For all the actors, will they play the character in the book, emulate their predecessor, or consciously try to be different from the previous actor and how will that deviate from the one on the page? The proper writing staff is the absolute key. People who understand how to bring the page to life that feels like the book come to life and not actors reciting it. Those who can write an internal scene and translate it to the screen. Remember that the same team that absolutely slayed it in The Lord of the Rings, damaged the Hobbit. This is why my stress of the lack of time constraints. Peter Jackson tried the same approach he took to The three LotR books which combined had 1178 pages in paperback to The Hobbit which in my paperback is only 305 pages long. Let the story dictate the length. Not the other way around. Lastly, any time you have a long term series commitment, you need to have leadership who work to make the set an enjoyable experience or you have actors trying to leave or mentally checking out and just going through the motions. I've been listening to a podcast about a show where a couple of actors in their late twenties were still playing teens and were absolutely tired of it. When one was wrapped for the final time after four seasons, his final words to the crew were, "Well, it's been lucrative." He then left.

​@@thefknzipster9137 HBO did Game of Thrones which was a most UK cast. Christopher Columbus shot chunks of the first two Potter films in the US. GoT was shot in multiple countries. I don't see that being a vproblem. The other thing with Batman is the wide variety of source material. How many reboots in the comics? HP just has one set of books.

To us 10-12 year olds, it was magical. And him acknowledging how it helped n gave alot of us growing up in ACE homes an escape, a "safe space" , is just icing on cake.

I'm a diehard Potter fan, and have been since I was like, eight. I don't fully understand the reluctance to have a retelling of the Harry Potter stories on the screen - I was honestly under the impression that the general consensus among the fans was that the movies are good, but they leave a RIDICULOUS amount of stuff out of the story. I mean come on, We're literally missing an entire Weasley brother. Give us Charlie! I'm anticipating something similar to the new version of A Series Of Unfortunate Events - where they not only include everything that was in the books, but also flesh out and build up backstory. It's also a chance to see justice for Ron and Ginny, whose characters were absolutely cannibalised (through no fault of Rupert or Bonnie) to make Hermione look good. I want to see more accurate portrayals of all the characters, with all their flaws and virtues from the books. I want to see Harry as the absolute GOAT of sardonic one-liners, and also as the highly-emotional, shouty mess we know and love him as. I want to see Ron be the Gryffindor-iest Gryffindor who ever lived, and also just not be a moron, because he's street-smart in the books and is the source of the vast majority of exposition about wizarding culture. I want to see Hermione be irritatingly square, but also paradoxically batshit insane, kidnapping and imprisoning reporters, cursing tattle-tales and often actually being the one to pressure her friends into breaking the rules. I want to see Ginny being a terrifying firecracker who grew up fighting with six brothers and became one of the most intimidating characters in the entire series. I want to see more of Cedric Diggory being the classical Prince-Charming-Hero popular kid who's also just incredibly kind, so that when he dies, we really feel his loss. I want to see Oliver Wood being a maniacal madman so obsessed with Quidditch that he tells a thirteen year old that death is better than failure. The movies are fun, but I could go on, and on, and on. I don't feel like I've really seen these characters on-screen yet and I'm looking forward to finally getting the chance. Also... shoelaces.

I'm usually very against remakes/reboots. Specially in the HP universe where there are lots of potential things to explore, for example one thing that I see the fanbase basically beg them to adapt is the First Wizarding War, I think that would be amazing. Another popular ones that i see lots of requests are stuff related to the Four Founding members of Hogwarts and the Marauders.

I really think the details that are left of the movies aren't enough to make a, what, 10 episode season? You'd either have to stretch it quite a lot or add new stuff. Agreed, I think they should do a HP tv series in the future, when the movies are older, and we, the audience that grew up with the movies, are older too, so you can get mor nostalgic. We have been BEGGING for the marauders series for 20 something years! I am gonna watch it, to see a more complete adaptation of the books, but I would not choose this tv show over Marauders od the founders

exactly, a lot of us still feel off about michael gambon replacing richard harris as dumbledore in the movies, they of course had to but many believed he wasnt the right fit after richard did such a good job - thats going be ten fold with the new actors replacing all the cast but especially alan rickman (snape) , richard griffiths (uncle vernon) and robbie coltrane (hagrid), even the voice of the sorting hat is gone and narcissa malfoy and ollivander - with so many beloved actors dead it feels horrible to replace their memories

I honestly don't have much hopes. Yeah they cut off stuff to fit it into a movie lenth run time- but you need genuine chemistry as OT3. The talented older actors are also irreplaceable for me. I'd rather read the books if I want to cover all of the story

Couldn't agree more, and nowadays every movie or TV show is only checking lists for representations like races, genders, sexual orientations... which I find really annoying and I hate it instead of focusing on the story. Speak for yourself, that's why there's such thing as casting so not only to pick appearance, but also do chemistry trial before anything happens. People like y'all get on my nerves really hard because y'all act like the movies were saint like perfect which they clearly weren't. When I read the books I was really disappointed in the movies because many things could've been done a lot better and true to the books. Two examples are the Weasley twins and Ginny; Fred & George actors didn't live up to the full potential of the book characters, Bonnie Wright was too tall and not beautiful enough (she's good looking) to what the books depict. Personally I do want a series because with that we'll get an opportunity to see all the books completely in life action, and perhaps maybe even add a bit of something new to each episode.

There is just something so timeless about the story and movies which I'm so afraid won't be captured in this alleged new series. Another worry of mine is that for fans who have been re-reading the books for 10+ years and have imagined all the non-movie scenes and non-movie characters, it will be near impossible for HBO to satisfy and live up to everyone's different imagined HP experience. So, much like the last of us, like you mention, they can't please everyone with every artistic choice they'll make. We'll just have to remember that and keep reasonable expectations :) And I pray to the deities that they cast unknown actors, and again stick to an all-british cast like the original.

My main concern is the look of the world. Are they going to change the wand designs, prop designs, the look of Hogwarts? I think that’d be a BIG mistake. I’m a huge HP replica collector, and I feel like (for example) having two Harry Potter wand designs or two Ravenclaw Diadem designs will really cheapen everything for the hardcore fans. Hopefully WB is smart enough to recognize that keeping the look the same would be best for them and the Wizarding World amusement parks. Changing the world that people are so invested in wouldn’t be the right move in my opinion.

I’d love to see a proper adaptation! I could never see the characters of the books in the movies because their personalities are too different (with some exceptions, like Hagrid) so I guess what I would like to see from the books that hasn’t made it to the movies is the actual characters 😅 and of course Voldemort’s past that was omitted from movie 6 for some reason and it’s really interesting!

I agree, but there is reason to believe this might not happen to the Potterverse with Rowling rejecting parts of modern politics. And also studios are starting to take notice that other movies from their competitors are failing due to wokeism. I still have problems with Universal, but do you realize they seem to be winning right now while Disney is losing? And I’m aware that Potter is WBD, I’m just saying. The modern media tried to reject Hogwarts Legacy and it ended up being one of the best selling video games of all time. And it hasn’t even released on the consoles that aren’t next gen yet.

I grew up with Harry Potter, I read the books as they were coming out, and I'm excited for this. I really like that they're doing a series and will be able to adapt more material from the books. And if the show sucks, I can always just read the books or watch the movies. I don't think this adaptation will take away from the original movies. To people who grew up with the movies, when they hear Harry, they'll picture Daniel Radcliffe, and nothing can change that. But it would be cool if, as you mentioned in the video, we could give kids of today a chance to grow up and learn from such an amazing franchise.

I am honestly excited about a Harry Potter TV series💞 The movies weren't THAT good if you had read the books prior to watching them. Yes, they were iconic and marked so many people's childhood, but let's be honest..... They left out SO many interesting details, characters, and plotlines from the books. Especially Goblet of Fire which, in my opinion, was the most charmingly enchanting book in the entire series. The movie was an utter drab and the muted colors/vibe just ruined everything that the book was about. So I'm very, very excited at the prospect of a TV show with one season dedicated to each book.

I am a fan of your platform. I am 50yrs old and a fan of the HP world. Some thoughts to think about the movies and books. The books are based on the years 1991-1998 (Harry Potter's life). There are a lot of changes in the movies. The Milleneum Bridge that was destroyed in Deathly Halows 1 was not around. The Firebolt screen was wrong, the battle at the Dept of Mysteries was different, the absence of Dobby in books 4, 5, 6. Neville and his involvement (or lack thereof), all the Qiiddich in books 3, 5,6, Ginny and Harry love line. It would all be able to be included in a TV series.

I’m MAY be for it if they take their time with it and keep it close to the books (like a season a book 13 ep season). Also has to stay a British cast. I’d be happy with them even using the original sets etc. HBO did a good job with The Last of Us but I’m not sure if Warner bros can achieve the same.

Recasting the characters will definitely be a big challenge but an even greater challenge for the show to stand on its own I think will be the production and set design. Surely they won’t use the existing design of Hogwarts from the movies (lest the show feel like a copy, comparison is invited, and it’s made difficult for viewers to enjoy it as its own thing - so how in the world do they replicate the intricacy and iconicism of the hogwarts castle, crafted over a decade of films, while designing something new and different?

There is no network I trust more than HBO. However, I really hope this doesn't happen - at least not now. I think it's still way too soon to reboot the main story. Give us more prequels or even stories set in the future. The original films were so massive and beloved that this might not be the way to go. If they really want a reboot, I think the best time to consider that would be in 20 or 30 years from now.

For content, I think it is highly likely that they will expand the books to cover more lore, such as the stuff that can be found on pottermore or even expand on the experiences of the other characters aside from the trio. We really only saw everything from Harry's POV. Even starting during the first war with the marauders would be excellent content to include, especially if they bring Rowling into the process of forming the story. There is so much potential with this. I hope they announce soon whether it is official or not! Great content as always guys!

I feel very mixed about this. Love the books. Love the movies. But.....that original cast was stellar. How would you top Snape or Voldemort? Who could portray Hagrid as well? As for the three main characters, we watched them grow up and they are so linked to those roles that I think anyone else would be a poor copy of them. I find myself reluctant to watch for that reason.

Age wise Ralph Fiennes can still play Voldemort, better even for it. Bradley can still play Filch. but for how long? Snape has to be 30, that's very different. A graceful Lucius maybe someone else can (who plays elves), Bellatrix is crazy but childish. Not that difficult. Hagrid...yeah that's hard. Though the transformation from to the figure is "big". I honestly am most scared of who will play McGonagall, Molly and Arthur.

I don't think anybody should reject adaptations just because. They all deserve a try because we never know how they'll be. But this one will have to do a lot to satisfy because it can't be too close to the films or the books (I'm personally not in favor of copy/paste, that's not what adaptations are about). It'll be tough to find its own fitting. I'm curious to see what it will do though!

@@RJMiller73 It has everything to do with adaptations, imo. It doesn't matter how many retellings of a story you have within a decade, it's the quality that counts. Nobody's ever going to complain there're too many retellings when they're good (at least, nobody who cares about the story). The problem is when they're bad. They can retell Harry Potter as many times as they want, but if it's sloppy and just for the money, it'll show. They need to be able to tell a different story with the same source material. That's when a retelling is worth it. If it's fresh and makes us experience the story anew, doesn't matter if it's the tenth retelling in a year or in 100 years. It'll be good. Time doesn't make a retelling worthwhile. Good writing does.

The time is now for HBO Max, they’re beating other streaming services by a mile at this point. They know what fans want and they have the ability to make a masterpiece of anything with the proper tools (the last of us being a perfect example). Fans like myself want to see the details that the movies couldn’t cover because of screen time. And to your guys’ point, it brings in a new generation of fans while also entertaining the older ones. Very exciting prospect. I think the idea of a TV series has been huge in the fan community for YEARS. Yes, we adore the movies and the books but there are just book things that fans are bummed never made the movies. And if you're like me, as you rewatch and re-read them over and over, those missing elements maybe become a bit of an annoyance as the years go on. For example as a fan of both, man I love Prisoner but with one sentence Lupin could have explained what a patronus is so much better (i.e. "it's a protector, a full-bodied patronus takes the form of an animal and be useful for more than just protection against dementors") that wouldn't leave movie people confused when Harry thinks he saw his dad, etc. And the original cast is perfection, but love Answer's point about who characters/actors are. Who IS Spiderman? There are three appropriate answers for that. A series is WAY better than a movie reboot, there is more room for it to be its own thing.

i'm all for a tv series, just like i'm so excited for the Percy Jackson series, cuz those movies were trash. so many reactors i've watched do not understand why harry has to go back to the dursleys every summer as it was completely left out of the movies. one reactor didn't even know that voldemort is a half blood. just so much was left out of the movies that really shouldn't have been and a tv series will allow for more book stuff to be included and just make more sense for people that never read the books.

I had started reading the books before the first movie, and I remember not really appreciating some of the changes made in the movies, whether the changes were necessary omissions because of time or the film medium, or whether they were just creative liberties for movie aesthetics. I think giving each book a full season is a good opportunity to satisfy some of the Harry Potter purists that had nitpicks with the movies. I have been expecting this to come sometime in the 2020's, but I always imagined it would be animated. I think I trust HBO to do justice with the effects in a live-action reboot.

As much as I want to see the full story adapted, I feel that it's way too soon to do that. The impact of the movies still feel prominent and the general public still have a very lasting impression of these actors as their character. It'd take a whole cast with very immense charisma (which is not easy to find) to at least make new impression, let alone surpass the OG cast.

A few take away: 1) Absolutely no one wants a movie adaptation of Cursed Child. 2) I really hope that they go with an all U.K. cast. I think one of the great strengths of the original movies is that the public was introduced to all of these amazing British actors that a lot of people did not know. I'm an American but I really don't want an American playing HP. 3) Please, please, please do not make Ron a doofus and Hermione practically a saint. Find an actress to play Ginny that has some sort of chemistry with the actor who plays Harry Potter. 4) A Harry Potter who actually has green eyes. I don't know. I am a huge Potterhead. I want this if it is done well. If not, it is just going to be heartbreaking.

The show will give them great opportunity to flesh out the characters and the world if done right. On the other hand, they can very easily throw this down the drain by inserting subjects and ideologies that have no place. I get that there's a lot of advantages about this idea having each book becoming a full season because with the success of TV series now a days especially with The Last Of Us being so successful. This would mean we would get more accurate portrayal of the stories and we would potentially see cut storyline that were cut out in the movies. But I really don't care for it. I much prefer a cursed child movie rather than a tv series reboot. I know most people hated the cursed child but I for one enjoyed it. I think it's different with batman, were used to them changing because it was a comic with many different versions and many different separate stories. With the potter universe it's always been Daniel, through every movie, he even looks just like the kid on the books. Daniel is potter and it's hard to see anyone else trying to be potter. Same with all the characters in the series. We watched them grow and many grew with them. I really do hope a series comes though and is done right and is done successfully.

I'm a bit scared on how I'll feel. I'm usually never critical to anything before I've watched it, and even then I accept it, but this might be different. I don't think it will ruin anyone's perception and memories of the original films, by any means. However, it might make people feel like this isn't "Harry Potter", as the cast needs to change, for obvious reasons. I hope they do this cleverly, and thread lightly, because this might be the BIGGEST and most risky win or lose situation in tv history.

What's great about a series is for exemple, in prisoner of azkaban, they could dedicate an entire episode about a flash back to the marauders! that would be insane! but my only concern is casting... finding the 3 main will be so HARD cause emma, rupert and daniel were the perfect trio and recasting snape will be a nightmare. but I'll give this a try once it arrives.

exactly, a lot of us still feel off about michael gambon replacing richard harris as dumbledore in the movies, they of course had to but many believed he wasnt the right fit after richard did such a good job - thats going be ten fold with the new actors replacing all the cast but especially alan rickman (snape) , richard griffiths (uncle vernon) and robbie coltrane (hagrid), even the voice of the sorting hat is gone and narcissa malfoy and ollivander - with so many beloved actors dead it feels horrible to replace their memories and thats not even getting started on the kid actors we grew up with

I'm so excited! I would love for them to take some creative liberties, like a flashback to the Mauraders Days, or the founding of Hogwarts. That would make for an incredible show. They could open with the eerie details of the night Voldemort killed Harry's parents, or how close Neville was to being the Chosen One! Definitely trusting HBO can't go wrong with this.
