Looking in, or back,helps me be reality based for the future. Thx WW, you attempted to enlighten and entertain us. I stand enlightening, because of this show, and entertained by every Sorkinism I re-hear.

I would have loved a scene where Bartlett explains what a petard is and the root definition of being "hoisted" by one.

There's an awful lot in these two scenes that aged ... uncomfortably.
@jbuster920 күн бұрын
Not disagreeing, but wondering what in particular you think aged poorly?
@terrenusvitae20 күн бұрын
@@jbuster9 It didn't age poorly, I am uncomfortable because it aged too well. To answer your question though, I was referring to both the endless commitments to the middle east and the dystopian recognition systems.
@ER1CwC20 күн бұрын
@@terrenusvitae Unfortunately, the bad commitments contaminated the good ones. But the problem with US foreign policy is that the realistic alternatives might be even worse. We are about to see what happens when the American empire withdraws. Usually, when empires withdraw, bloodbaths ensue.

@terrenusvitae, you mean topics and issues that were around in various media for decades long before The West Wing??
@genghisgalahad846512 күн бұрын
Because those topics absolutely began in this very episode and originated with the West Wing. Just ignore the book and the movie 1984, for starters. And.....ignore the Middle East news especially from the 20th century.

@Adblock4lyfe21 күн бұрын
Actually it's "Hoist with his own petard;"
@jmackmcneill20 күн бұрын
It can be either "with" or "by", so long as it is not "hoisted". Both are grammatically correct. (although I think "with" is contextually misleading) And it can be "their" because it can be a group of people being blown up.

it's "hoist with his own petard." a petard is a primitive early grenade. you can't be hoisted ON a petard, it's not a rope and pulley - "hoist with his own petard" means he blew himself up. so easy to tell which scenes came after Sorkin left the show
