Hoka Mach X2 vs Saucony Endorphin Speed 4: Two runners compare the versatile plated trainers

Haven’t used the Speed 4 but just got the Mach X2 in wide fit ( I usually use standard fit) and its fit great for me. No rubbing and good midfoot and forefoot room. Feels stable and fast but also comfortable at slower paces. Enjoying the higher forefoot stack which I think will allow for long runs.

fun tip: you can get women's shoes for a more dialed in fit, for saucony just add +1.5 of your men's size to the women's size! I have 2 pairs of the endorphin speed 4, one in men's 8.5 and women's 10. Women's size is slightly more narrow by a tad bit, but same length.

Your comments on the X2 are spot on. I bought some today despite the heel worries and I have to be careful to lock it in. I suspect the X3 will fix its shortcomings but for now despite its warts I am looking forward to putting some miles in.

I really like the Speed 4 - the upper is great and the shape suits my feet. I never really got on with Hokas. But maybe will give it a shot if the store has my size in stock.

Been looking forward to this review. Mach 6 is fantastic, Speed 3 fantastic. Never tried Mach X. My next purchase will be the Speed 4. In Thailand Mach X2 is 20% more expensive than Speed 4 at mrp, but Saucony tends to be discounted more often than Hoka. Keep up the good work, 100k subscribers soon.

I got the original Mach X and it was terrible for me. Just dead all around. I got about 190 miles on it and there are just better shoes out there. Heard the Mach X2 is a big upgrade.

Hoka Mach X 2 is a brilliant shoe! Replaced my Prime X and Superblast for those tempo and med long runs. Still can't find SB V2 in the UK...

Had Mach x2 loved the ride brilliant shoe had send back due to heel rub but just ordered again and gonna try thicker socks or tape because the ride was that good

Have to tell you that the heel issue isn’t an issue! The Mach X2s are just explosive shoes that are so fast and fun to put on! I do take the time to fit them around my heel and I find them to encourage me to run off my midfoot. I overpronate a little- they are stable. Endorphin speeds gave me Achilles problems 1st run and I love Endorphin pro 3s🤨. Definitely going to take the Mach X2s to my next race

Mach X2 is a really great shoe … much more comfortable and responsive than the Superblast I was previously using. Would not go back, even at half the price!

Found Speed 4 rocker not as aggressive as Speed 3… and don’t like the wing at the back 😢

Speed 4 (348km so far) is ok but I find the rubber wears a lot quicker than Speed 2 (475km to date). I use the Speed 4 for long runs (marathon pace). Speed 2’s for intervals (eg 10 x 1km) or tempos. I ran a marathon in the speed 2. So far Speed 2 is my favourite all time. I might try adidas boston as its eventual replacement

Goodness not me. I hate the Mach X2 upper, but the Cielo works great for my foot. I’ve put about 150 miles in the X1 including a race and zero issues.

Did you find any shoe that is similar? I retired my first pair after 800km and the pair is just amazing. Effortless runs and feels so natural for any pace. I hated the deviate nitro 2. The speed 3 is ok but lost it's pop vs speed 2

@@lalupato1175 unfortunally I didˋt find any shoe that is similar. Speed 3 is more a training shoe with less pop and has a much wider fit. My fastest race day shoe is the Diadora gara. But I use it only for few races because it is very expensiv and the durability of the outsole is very poor. With the speed2 its around 800km with the Gara 150km.

I use Triumph 21 for daily training. Need a pair for faster pace training (4-4:30 min/km) and racing (5km/10km/HM). Actually was considering these two models here: Mach X 2 is a no-go for me due to hill rubbing, Speed 4 havn`t tested yet. What other models should I consider?

I have the Speed 4 and more recently, the Pro 4. The Pro 4 is the more poopy and comfortable shoe, especially for longer runs. It feels fully padded along and across the sole. The only downside I've found is that it takes some time dialling in the lacing! The laces and shoe top are elastic and so it's necessary to have the laces tighter than you'd normally expect.

The hoka sizing issue is frustrating. I bought reg width Mach 5’s and they were uncomfortably narrow. I then went half a size up with the ceilo x1 and if anything they are too big as the toe box is so wide. If I get the machine x2 it will have to be the wide fit option but I wish hoka were more consistent especially given the price.

I've been using the Speed 4 at all the races this summer, and I really like them! Would love to try the Hoka Mach X2 too, if it weren't for the problematic +40mm under the heel...

@@GradoRuns Hoka is £170 and 190$. Which kind of makes sense as 1£ = 1.3$, so really it should be 190/1.3 = £146, but OK, VAT is higher in the UK, say 20% more, so £170 sounds about right. But 170$ and £180 for the Saucony? ! Taking the piss. If you do the same conversion as Hoka, you'd get £155, not £180.

Hoka Mach X2 = 30,800円 (£159) in Japan, the Endorphin Speed 4 = 19, 800 (£105). Big gap! The Hoka would have to be much better than the Saucony to convince me to buy it.

It's laughable how much more profit Saucony is trying to make from the Brits then, isn't it? I mean if they can sell it in Japan (which is not a cheap place to live and operate!) for £105 and obviously make a healthy profit, imagine their profit margin in the UK!

At this point they only have the charcoal/green colour way in wide, and limited stock. Not quite as bad as trying to get hold of a Superblast 2, but not far off. One pair only of 12.5 wide were available for sale in Australia- can you believe that, one pair!?!?!
