Ive done about 700km on my size US12. Im 55yr 75kg about 1.23 half marathon. I do all my training on the road in this shoe. Love it. Its still looking very fresh. Just the outer on the left heal wearing so l coat it with shoe goo about every 100km or so. Best training shoe for me by far. People complain about their sore feet after long runs........long runs are hard on you feet......no shoe will completely stop your foot discomfort after long training runs. Just my 5 cents worth

I have it and it is indeed a shoe to keep fresh legs during a long run! In my rotation for long runs I have that one and the Mizuno Neo Vista

I bought the original Clifton, and while I liked how it ran, the durability wasn't there. The upper performed OK, but the midsole was not great, and the outsole was terrible. I doubt it held up for 100 miles. After that I've tried the Bondi, had the same experience, and now am occasionally running in a pair of Rincons. Same, premature wear. I've come to the conclusion that Hoka needs to change their outsole to something more like Puma grip, or the Continental rubber Adidas uses. They hold up like a champ. And by the way, 11 ounces, in my opinion is not heavy for a daily trainer. I've been running for more than 50 years, and that used to consider light, or at least lighter than average. Expectations change.

I have pretty much the same feelings about the Skyward X. I love it but it's a bit narrow in the front, all of us would love to get more miles out of our shoes. For me though the fact that I can run when the body feels a bit beat up is worth it. I haven't taken it for longer than a 30 mile run but I wouldn't hesitate to do that and I will for sure.

Glad to hear you feel the same way. It's a damn good shoe, just the toebox irritates my foot after every run. Definitely worth it though. There's a reason I continue to pick it up for my runs. Perfect shoe for the 30 and up mile range. You should definitely give it a shot on a longer run.

Brooks unveiled a new shoe that looks very similar to skyward x called Glycerin Max. I’m interested in giving it a try.
@RunMoore
@RunMoore Ай бұрын
I would say the Glycerin Max is more similar to the Asics Superblast 2. It is in the same price bracket as the Superblast coming in at $200. It also has the same stack height, maxing out at 45mm in the heel. All three Glycerin Max, Superblast 2, and Skyward X feature dual foam designs, giving you a bit of bounce to your stride. If you plan to give it a try, let us know what you think! You can't go wrong with any of the listed options.

Thanks for the detailed video! Much appreciated. Did you wear your normal size or go up by 0.5?

I wore my normal size with this shoe and then tried to get myself to wear a half size up but it still didnt feel quite as comfortable as I'd hope it would be by going that half size up.

I felt like I was crazy because I don’t feel like I have wide feet, but this toebox and the midfoot hurts me every time I run in it, and I am a mild pronator, but this shoe makes me supinate pretty bad. I am 70+ miles in this shoe and when I stand, you can see that my ankles bow outward, and that the shoes smash down on the outside as if it’s only wearing on the outside, proving my supination theory. Really sad with this issue, but it still beats out the saucony hurricane - that shoe is a complete brick.

Interesting to hear your experience with the Skyward. We have seen people who severely overpronate have some slight pronation issues. We have not yet seen any supination issues. Lateral wear definitely supports the supination claim. The most we can recommend is trying an insert that helps prevent supination, without being too low of an arch that you start pronating. We have found the Superfeet Run Cushion High Arch does a good job at helping with supination without having too low of an arch.

Great review. Just subbed. I'm curious though. What would you say is the main reason the toe box is so uncomfortable for you? Would you say because it's too narrow? It's not too short is it? I initially purchased the mach 6 but had to return it because the toe box was too uncomfortably short, at my size, and there were no size-up alternatives (I'm a size 14.) This was never a problem for me with the mach 4's and 5's.

For me it was the width. This particular shoe irritated my bunions after long miles in it but it's such a good shoe that I cannot stop picking it up to run in. Lengthwise it felt fine in my true to size size 11.5.

This shoe does intrigue me for many reasons. My rotation is full right now so it’s not needed currently. I’ve never spent that much money on a shoe and I would still have a hard time doing so. Given all you’ve said, I would be hard-pressed to buy this over the Asics Superblast, a shoe which I’ve also never owned, but have never heard a bad review of. I like the direction Hoka is going this year and could see myself in one of their models before years end.

I also really love the Superblast 2. Aside from the $25 increase in price over the Superblast, the Skyward X is equipped with 3mm extra stack height in the heel, as well as a carbon plate for added stability. Otherwise, it uses a similar dual foam midsole technology to the Superblast that gives it a bit of responsiveness but keeps it nice and plush for those longer miles.

I actually pronate in this shoe more than expected, its more noticeable on roads with a pitch.
@RunMoore
@RunMoore Ай бұрын
Knowing the shoe I'm not surprised. Because it has such a soft, responsive midsole foam, the carbon plate is the only thing keeping it stable. We have seen a few people who noticeably overpronate have stability issues with this shoe.

Terrible shoe, way too heavy on the feet & wallet
@eurekaflows
@eurekaflows Ай бұрын
Have you actually used it or are you just yapping based on hearsay? The Skyward X's stability and energy return makes it feel a lot lighter than it actually is. It doesn't feel anywhere near as bulky as my other shoes in the similar weight range.
