Hahahaha, OK. Vanessa Hand makes videos for CNET in Spanish (CNET en español) and that's it. In Spanish, they've a video very similar to this video. In this, the test of Google translate is with people of CNET in English, Vietnamese etc... If you don't understand some things I said it is because I don't speak 100% of English and I am writing this comment only with the words I know. Don't hate me ;)

Yes found it just now by accident ! ! ! I learned 3 good okay was easy, but Italian too was just as hard depending & also the Portuguese seemed easier & closer to Latin & Spanish then Italian. Trying French next ! Wow I was praying for this today to know all like Julio Iglesias, but I have nothing to envy him anymore !

Yeah, apparently other languages (especially Russian 😨) work pretty well but Spanish always seems to be left behind. Probably because of the different meanings to words.

I do like Google translate but the speech output I don’t like it because I know how to read it. Vanessa was right the speech output is sounding an idiot but thank God Google Translate didn’t add speech output for Filipino. I’m so happy about the Filipino didn’t got the speech output 😁😁🇵🇭🇵🇭 so google translate is the best app I can use for my future job.

I did... kind of... a few years ago. We danced together on a cruise ship and afterward tried to speak to one another. I knew enough from two semesters of Spanish to at least know some basics, though my vocabulary was very limited and I kept putting my verbs in the wrong tense. Also when we spoke about cooking I kept saying Los Papas instead of Las Papas, which she found hilarious. We knew enough of one another's languages to convey that we did not understand, and in two to three uses of synonyms and rephrasing it would clear up. The app is by no means perfect, but it took our mutual comprehensibility from 20% without it to 95% after using it (and rephrasing once or twice).

BS. You aren't holding any conversations, because the translation stops in literally in any of the hundreds of 1 second pauses that occur naturally in conversation. These apps are not tested in real world circumstances CLEARLY. You cannot use them. They are utterly useless. Unless you can manage to hit the button again the split second it turns off, you are missing most of the conversation guaranteed. It's utterly stupid. Why can't google or other app developers realize that STOPPING THE APP the moment someone PAUSES IN THEIR SPEECH, is a DEEPLY STUPID DESIGN FEATURE?
