The Caprice shown is the exact model my late dad bought brand new, 1976/6, can't remember the exact year. Navy blue with the tan vinyl leather top. Absolutely magnificent car and even today in 2019, a well kept model looks impressive.

These cars are worth a bit of money nowadays. Original unmolested examples are hard to find. Federal politicians of the day would've loved driving those statesmans.

Possibly the most beautiful car ever offered by General Motors-Holden's. GM really dropped the ball by not bringing this car to North America as a mid-sized Cadillac.

Indeed, the HJ Statesman was a beautiful, classy looking car.

I've always liked anything that is made in Australia. If it's rugged enough to withstand Australia's outback driving, whatever name it's given, I would welcome it here in the USA with open arms.

Anyone notice the aerial switch, same as the VB commodore SL/E, lol, so much planning goes in to each model to save on making new parts, just a face lift really, yet they make you pay new car pricing from one model to the other, same with every car manufacturer in the world. :)

1 of my cousins had an HJ De Ville, lowered, headers in to a 3” dual system, riding on 8” dragways at the front and 10” at the rear.

It had the long wheelbase of the wagon . At the time it was a bloody good car. It road we’ll probably had chronic understeer.

love the style voice over's Holden used in this time period for this level of car, sounds strong as the car was itself , and pre pollution full strength 308 motor, and quadrajet carbie , these pulled hard left in stock std mode including 2 degrees ignition timming , use high octane premium plus aditive octane booster , new leads ,plugs and points and coil , even leave standard manifolds for exhaust note , deep bass idle note, 21/2 inch single pipe , v8 scream when required

%100 correct mate, my mates always had Hq statesmans and the old 308 went very hard. I had an Xt GT falcon I put a 351 Cleveland in that was an ex cop motor. The 308 would give it a run no problems. I've always had Mopars and they're a bullet proof engine. Did 750,000 on a mild 318 , these old V8s will run forever if they are looked after especially the old 308. The cams wear on all Gms but after 300,000 that's an excellent excuse to put a better one in. Mate built a mild 308 , with VN heads 180 kW at the wheels. You loose 70 from the drive train at least so it's a 250 kW motor. Great engine and pulls hard ,perfect for the street and very reliable after 15 years not a problem. I love the old luxury Aussie cars. I have a 77 regal se with a hot 360 and just built a 67 impala for the wife . Sounds like you have a brougham, what a beautiful car they are. That's one car they didn't build enough of. Drove a 307 hk premier I repaired at work and 1 a mate bought cheap years ago from the wreckers. They were both nice cars and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. They make crap these days and nothing compares to the old stuff.

Nice. When they were new they were up against the Ford Fairlane and long wheelbase Chrysler.Ford made a killing in sales with the Statesman and Chrysler trailing along in second and a way behind third.Look at things now.The Fairlane is extinct due to neglect on Ford's behalf, the Statesman is sold overseas as a Chevrolet as well as enjoying popularity here and Chrysler cant sell enough of it's 300C's.

My first car was a 1976 Statesman DeVille with a 350. It was a beast, but an unreliable piece of shit at the same time.

Looks like a 1971 U.S. Chevrolet with the steering wheel on the wrong side
