Also... love the footwork. That little brake tap heading into turn 1 is perfect. So much of what these incredible drivers do is unnoticed because it's in the footwell. Awesome "footage" (see what I did there?) in this video.

When it blasts past that Mini it probably left a VF-shaped hole in the air... like the old cartoons did when Wile E. Coyote went through a wall. Sounds great, love the V8s 👍

Must be a bit of a shock to all the Euro folk that looked down as Supercars compared to 2-Litre's, Super Tourers, DTM,... When that Commodore just ranges up behind and blats past like it's no effort at all.

As much as I love our home grown supercars, the UK 2 litre tourers was one of the greatest, cut throat, hard driving series of all time. Lap time comparisons would be interesting.

Yeah must have been the same way all the VL’s felt when they strapped a turbo to the 2L cosworth sierras I guess 😆😆😆
@PiDsPagePrototypes7 ай бұрын
@@stevegosbee9530 Yah, those Sierra's, especially the DJR (Dick Johnson Racing) one that Dick and John Bowe drove, they were monsters. Something like 650hp on boost. Bowe said they were 'like driving a computer game' of the era, with on/off button for throttle, having to make sure they were straight before using it. Brocks V8 VL was better coming out of the corners, able to get on it a lot sooner, but mid-way up Mountain Striaght the Sierra's had legs on the Commodore, and then Tony Longhurst's BMW M3 was uncatchable over the top of Mt Panorama and through the twistie bits. The VL was down maybe as much as 100hp on the Sierra's. But those Group A cars were all faster then the 2 litre Super Tourers. The more recent V8 Supercars like what's in this video, are a signifigant improvement in performance in all aspects.

I noticed you're allowing the engine to rev higher than in the past. it sounds so good!! who does your engine work?
@HoldenRacingUK7 ай бұрын
Always rev them all the way when needed. If we are way out in front of a race, no point ringing its neck. If you have watch some videos of our cars with the older Motec dash, the seperate rev light module actually maxes out half way along the total number of lights. This is because the rest of the lights are reserved for warnings. As for engines, Walkinshaw, KRE, and Andrew Wheatley (ex HRT and PWR engine guy) When they need a freshen up, they usually go to who built them in the first place.

You mention a difference to the tyre sizing. I'm guessing this would've been around the 2017 season spec dunlop that had the squarer tread edges that loved camber? I don't remember the official tyre size ever changing. I do however remember the 2017 tyre was a slight redesign of the construction and tread edge geometry which when ran in excess of -9.0 degrees front camber and in some case north of -5.0 degrees in the rear really generated speed until it blew apart.The teams kept taking the piss in regards to setup and the year was plagued with tyre failures. Can you shed any light on this?
@HoldenRacingUK7 ай бұрын
Official tyre definitely changed. It was still an 18 but 290/675, as apposed to the 280/680 which was ran for a majority of the COTF era. I think they used the 290's in 2017 but had issues, went back to the 280's the following year. Then at some point they used the 290's again. The 280 can run more camber safley than the 290 (so I'm told by Dunlop). Plus the 280 has a broader working window. 280 is a better all rounder. We definitely experienced some problems with how fussy the 290 is and how it behaves the last two years.

Just became aware of your channel today! Subbed! So great to see SC's in the UK. I see you're running around 50.63 whereas G Murphy in an earlier video doing 52.50 but with traffic. GRM15 is going well! May I ask who is driving the car in this video here?
@HoldenRacingUK7 ай бұрын
Gregs quickest lap was in the 49's, he was on hard compound tyres and he wasn't really pushing. No doubt Greg and other V8SC pro's would get in the 47's. Alex Sidwell is the owner and driver. He does pretty well for a club racer. 50.6 was our quickest at this test day but he wasn't pushing that hard, due to getting a feel for how the car is behaving, with the latest changes. 50 dead is the quickest we have done previously, our aim is the 49's should be do-able and recent changes to the setup are looking promising. The car is certainly capable of some blistering laps, but we aren't pro's!

Are there any Ford Falcons in the UK? They really hobbled them in Australia to make their beloved Holdens win all the time. Truth. I've been a fan of V8 Supercars & studied them since their creation in 1993 when group A ended.

Hobbled, in not the correct term for Parity. The front suspension on both Ford and Holden racecars, was the Ford layout, for a while the Chev based Holden engines had Ford design cylinder heads on them. The real 'advantage' that the Holden teams had, was money. Ford didn't do factory money in to the sport in the way GM did.
