Great job Luke, yes the timing chains were an issue. I had a VE v6 changed the oil regularly at 10,000kms. Never missed a service. We covered 270,000kms and no timing chain issues. So regular maintenance was key for our VE. Its sold now, but I do miss it. Had a VT before that , covered 280,000 kms. Needed to replace the fuel pump at 230k as it died on us. The VP before that was my favorite car, that V6 with the light body made it fun to drive. It too had the fuel pump fail at around 190,000kms. The only other issues with the VP and VT was the ignition key barrels wore out and had to be replaced. Keep the VZ going mate , there are a great car!

I'm really glad you enjoyed watching this one @Roberto Giuseppe the timing chains were a huge issue on the VEs most definitely! I couldn't imagine just how many the workshop I worked at did over the years and me doing lots whilst I was a there😂...a big job! The Commodores are such a reliable car though especially the earlier ones👌👌 Cheers so much again Rob, catch you on the next mate👍👍🙂

Thanks for making me feel extremely guilty about my poor old Subaru, I do have some work to do, replace my muffler, which I did a bit of welding on to get a bit more life from it, but now it's past the point of repair. And I need to replace a gasket on my radiator hose connection to the motor, it's the first time I ever came across a gasket on a radiator hose before! Usually it's a just replacement job of a split hose. I reckon anybody buying a car from you would be getting a great deal. My car's had a rough year with minor damage to tail and head light covers, and a bumper strip ripped off the back passenger door, Tail light hit by a ladder blown over whilst rebuilding my bungalow, head lamp while parking to close to my bus trying to charge my solar batteries, and the same for the bumper strip. The poor old girl deserves better. It seems my car's safer on the road than it is at home! I think any garage would snap you up in a minute if you ever went back to that job. Your lucky I live too far away, otherwise I'd be around everytime my car needed work. Luke! Mate! Could you have a look at my car again. You'd end up setting the dog on me. Cheers Mate!

Haha sorry @wayne armstrong I must admit though my poor old Commodore is getting a great working out since I got rid of the patrol😆 Poor thing goes everywhere I point it nearly and takes a bit of damage on doing so. Thankfully I will never be rechasing that best market value for that car...just a daily😂 It can be hard to keep up with that maintenance sometimes, but then again some of the best mechanic work you can do, is preventative work, to stop those major problems in future...but that's easy enough to say rather than do sometimes though! Take great care of yourself Wayne, there'll be plenty more fun mechanic videos to come and we'll be working on different cars everytime I'd say too🔧🪛😁

I discovered a seriously good idea by chance when doing oil changes, make sure you remove the full oil drain pan and used filter from under the car before lowering it and driving it away as otherwise you end up with a nasty oil spill to clean up.

Hahaha I love this comment @Tim Areskog and that is an easy enough thing to do too mate. I know a few apprentices in the workshop that have done it over the years working. And I will say I'm guilty of it myself at home in the drive...what a mess!!😂😂

Thank you that was perfect. My son just bought himself a VE series 2 and we gave it it's first oil change. We muddled through but glad we followed the same steps except we didn't flush it first. What do you use for the flush? * Wish we'd seen your video first! 😉

Im really glad you enjoyed and found this service video to be helpful @mungobrass no matter to much about the flush this time but I would definitely get it next. I just use a $15 bottle of standard petrol oil flush. Do not get diesel. There is two types. Just ask at any local auto shop amd they will have it in stock. Just simply put in and run the engine as shown for around 10 mins, then drain. All explained on the back of the bottle. Best of luck and happy motoring🙂👍

These are great tips, Luke, stuff that's explained and shown simply, stuff you wouldn't get shown and told, like the lip edge evolving on brake rotors! Maybe it's lucky I can't see the twin clutches inside our transmission, we're relying on German engineering lasting in the Audi wagon, though we miss our VT2! Great tip and explain why 98RON is worth that bit extra, it cleans your engine while you drive! (Part 2 droppers, was there hint of really good news as chat revealed to the star picket site older couple? 🤞) Cheers, Luke, and family, hope the Geelong event was grand, Gabi of Narre Warren.

Hi I have a vfs2 ss that we bought with 20,000km in 2017. It has been a every day driver up till the start of the year. It now has 90,000km but is only now doing about 1,000km p/y. My question is should I still change the oil every year even know it's only doing 1,000km.
@DigItDetecting
@DigItDetecting 2 ай бұрын
Hi there @scottsv96 a great car mate! In answer to your question, yes. Oil has a tendency to lose its viscosity even if it hasn't done the required kms between changing. A time interval of roughly 6-8 months (even doing low ks) i would still recommend doing a simple oil & filter change. Cheap preventative maintenance is always key on any car.

@DigItDetecting yeh I was thinking just to do it myself.

You wouldn't have to put a solution in if you service it every 5000 ks that looks way overdue.. you going to build a lot of slush..
