How can you be truly scared if you know the creatures in it already. Like the first time you see alien(s) your scared. Expecting to continually be scared without using cheap jump scares like Friday 13th part 7 and expect something new. Expectations to high and unreasonable, no? This movie delivered the best they could. I hear your complaints; I just don’t know how they could be fixed script wise or direction wise. It feels like complaining that your hamburger isn’t a chicken burger.

This movie and Prey whether you liked them or hate them helped revitalize the franchise. Now we’re getting Alien: Isolation 2, a prequel comic for Romulus, a confirmed sequel for this movie, 2 new Predator movies, and even talks of doing a proper Alien vs Predator set in the future with Colonial Marines. These IPs were basically dead but now they are thriving.

Rook isn’t the same android as Ash, but they are the same model of Weyland Yutani synthetic human. He’s a mass produced android essentially, and those specific models all bear that same likeness. It’s like how in Alien Covenant, we see two synthetic people who look identical, because they’re just mass produced that way. There’s also probably a bunch of Andy synthetic models out there, they kind of hint to it in the dialogue when Rook is giving Andy a little backstory. Edit: the xenomorph on the ladder at the end was keeping Rain trapped there so that the face hugger could attack her, but Andy shoots it right before it can jump onto her face. And with Kay, I think she’s delirious and knows she’s mortally wounded so she’s not weighing the odds when she injected herself. She didn’t see what happened to the rat so she just thinks it’s some kind of medicine. Also Rain literally tells her “Take this, and get into a cryopod” as she hands her the canister of black goo injections, and Kay in her state of shock could’ve easily misunderstood her as literally telling her to take the medicine and inject herself.

trivia time! - When Tyler, Bjorn, and Andy tour the reactivated Renaissance station, Wagner's "The Entry of the Gods into Valhalla" from "Das Rheingold" is heard over the introductory audio explaining the station being named after Romulus and Remus. This ties back to Alien: Covenant (2017), when Peter Weyland first activates David and asks him to play Wagner, choosing "The Entry of the Gods into Valhalla." - In the background of several shots, the emergency telephones that function as save stations from Alien: Isolation (2014) can be seen. Much like the game, they're typically a sign that something terrible is about to happen. Tyler also brings along a set of signal flares similar to the ones Amanda can find in Isolation, and even uses them to distract some facehuggers due to the heat of the flare like how Amanda can use them to distract the xenomorphs aboard Sevastopol. - In an interview on KZbin, Fede Alvarez described his idea on the significance of the biomechanical aspect of the Xenomorph coming from it's adaptability as it evolves during its gestation phase, absorbing parts and energy of the environment around where it cocoons itself in order to be able to excel within those surroundings, and in a used, dark industrial future, it would naturally lean towards a mechanical appearance to thrive within it. (also why it shows to have electricity runing thru it's skull bc bjorn tried to kill it before it was fully born, show casing you can indeed give it additional traits) - One notable design element in the film is the pulse rifle, which merges features from the original Alien (1979) flamethrower and the Aliens (1986) pulse rifle. This hybrid design reflects the film's intent to blend elements from both movies, creating something familiar yet new to reflect that this film takes place between those two movies. The auto-aim feature is not a completely new addition to Alien lore: in the Special edition of Aliens, Pvt. Hudson already mentioned an "independently targeting particle beam", and the Smart Guns carried by Vasquez and Drake use infrared-assisted targeting systems that can automatically detect enemies. It can be assumed that Rain's auto-aim pulse rifle is an early precursor to those weapons. - Aileen Wu, Fede Alvarez and film promos confirm that Navarro is Bjorn's adopted sister. According to the cast preview I'm Radio Times, "She was taken in by Bjorn's family on Jackson's Star and now thinks of Bjorn as a brother." This means the film features a trio of sibling pairs, which ties into the underlying myth of Romulus and Remus, and the two halves of the Renaissance station (named for the myth). Álvarez has said sibling relationships are a key theme in the film. - The Offspring was portrayed by the former Romanian college basketball player Robert Bobroczkyi. Speaking with Collider, Fede Álvarez explained that he didn't want to create a CG creature and had to find the right person for the role. After learning about Bobroczkyi, the director sent an email to the 7'7 basketball player asking him if he would like to be in an Alien movie, which Robert was very excited about. The Offspring was mostly done using make-up, with the exception of the creature's tail which was CG. - The chestburster scene was done practically. - the movie poster literally spoils who the first victim is lmao

the reason the pregnant girl injected herself with the alien formula thing, was because 1. She was afraid that she will die and Andy told her that it could help her. 2. She didn't know that Andy was no longer the same. 3. She didn't know the formulas origin. Movie watchers need to sometime understand the perspectives of the characters. Far as the pregnant chick was concerned, Andy was offering her some medical item that was supposed to make her feel better.

The best thing is it's not just an easy plot device to make monsters. It creates what a lot of people complain has been taken away, mystery. The more you see it show up the more you wonder if it originates from the Xenomorph itself and not a creation of the engineers. That would also mean the engineers didn't create the Xenomorph and it makes more sense seeing the mural in Prometheus as if they discovered the Xenomorph and then the black goo through study of them and the power it gave them is the reason they seemed to worship the Xenomorph. You can even take that line of thought a step further. What if the offspring doesn't actually resemble an engineer, that's just what an enhanced human would look like. That could mean the engineers used to be more human-like and perhaps did exactly the same thing Rook is trying to do with the black goo except he got the recipe wrong a put a bit too much Xeno in the mix. If he'd got it right it could make a human look exactly like an engineer. But anyway thats just one example of speculation and that is exactly what any rich sci-fi universe needs to have. Something which can be used as a recurring plot device but also opens the door for wild speculation is genius.

It's a mutagenic pathogen. If anything, it helps explain the illogical life cycle of the Alien, which still doesn't make sense btw, hence it's always just been hand-waved away until now with 'because aliens'. Think what you want about the franchise's overall handling of this plot device and its impact on head canon, but in revealing its function of rewriting DNA to more closely resemble a 'genetically perfect' Xenomorph (pretty much a distilled version of the alien itself), _this_ is the thing that unifies the creature's various iterations - peak cosmic horror imo.

Actually the concept of the black goo has existed since the original script for alien 3 that film was going to focus and hicks and bishop being the main characters while newt and ripley went back to earth hicks and bishop were supposed to go on a space station where some terrorist or corporation of some sort were weaponising the xenos and experimenting on their anatomy long story short it ends up being like The Thing where people Infected with the goo start to metamorph into xenos in a graphic manner so romulus is definitely inspired by the original alien 3

I was so happy and relieved when this turned out to be a really good movie. The first two are obviously in their own league and the more recent ones, while there is a lot to like in them, never really grabbed me and pulled me in. This new one did. It's like a really good cover song of the original that adds value in its own style.

Rook is the same MODEL as Ash, that's why he looks the same. RIP Ian Holm. The Facehuggers that run along the ground were RC drones. The company spent 20 YEARS looking for Big Chap

Hey, Holden and Jen! This film was fantastic! It successfully tied the prequels into the sequels while adding new lore and very sympathetic characters. This is the installment that could unite the fandom! You were talking over the silent opening which defeated its purpose and caused you to miss 'Nostromo' stenciled on the illuminated wreckage. I hope you understood that the xeno they recovered in that resin chrysalis which ran amok aboard Romulus station was Big Chap from "Alien" complete with Ripley's harpoon bolt protruding from its back! Disturbing detail: Kay was lactating the black goo which is what the Hybrid was suckling with its proboscis! David is not the creator of the xenomorph! They are a naturally-occurring species. David created a xenomorph variant of his own. The Engineers encountered the original species millennia ago and worshipped it! The Alpha Xenomorph that bore the scars of Bjorn's cattleprod saved Raine from her freefall for embryo implantation by the facehugger in the shaft for whom it was restraining her! The facehugger was crawling towards her when Andy let go of the elevator. The Alpha's torn dome was sparking because a piece of the cattleprod tip was lodged in its brainpan! Holm's widow and children approved of the use of his likeness stating he loved the character and would have participated had he been able to. The prop was animatronic with digital touch-ups. It's an organic addition to the story as he is the appropriate generational model the company would employ for R&D work during this time period and it subtly speaks to the disposability of Company employees which is what he was researching anyway by trying to create a durable workforce. Alvarez felt the other androids had multiple appearances and wanted to give Holm another showcase. If actors have an issue about posthumous use of their likeness where even descendants can't be trusted to honor their wishes, then they need to consult with an attorney to stipulate how their image may be used. New Xenomorph lore: resin cocoon capable of maintaining viability in vacuum, facehugger heat detection, variable metabolism contingent on circumstances, post-molting chestburster pupa, black goo taxonomic nomenclature revealed as 'plagiarus praepotens' (powerful mimic). A xenomorph-human hybrid was first seen in "Alien Resurrection" birthed by a Queen with a uterus rather than an ovipositor. New Weyland-Yutani lore: some terraformed planets like Yvaga are INDEPENDENT of the Company, synthetics unwelcome on independent worlds, off-world employment is like indentured servitude, corporate interest in a durable slave workforce, knowledge of the truth about the 'Nostromo' incident at the highest levels. Only criticism was the Ripley line used by Andy out of context. The xenomorph was a male drone! It made no sense! They should have established Andy practicing clumsily with swear words earlier. It could have been used in a scene where Bjorn was harassing him. The payoff would have been his action hero takedown of the Alpha! "Get away from her, you [fill-in-the-blank]!"

Does anyone wondering it is implied that Rook recombinated the DNA. The Xenos in the movie are not natural like Big Chap. The recombinated DNA accelerated life cycles by giant margins in order to get the more black goo.

31:37 on the note of it killing its own mother, it seems it drained Kay of all of her life force/ blood which had been transformed into that black goody stuff. And in terms of actual animals there are way way way more than you’d expect that do similar things. Either eating their mother, parts of their mother, their siblings, or the mom gives birth to so many babies she will eat her own babies, which is also very common. It’s the most common for animals to be born, the mother does the bare minimum, and then abandons the babies or the babies abandon the mother and go do their own thing. It’s actually more rare that the mom and baby are always and already very emotionally attached and treats their offspring how you’d expect with a bunch of love and protection.

I found this movie to be quite amazing. It was very cool that this movie takes place between Alien & Aliens. In case you didnt catch it in the beginning of the movie the broken ship pieces was the Nostromo from Alien and the Alien from that movie was the one found in the beginning of this movie. It really brought back the horror/thriller that this franchise was missing. I did see there is a possible sequel is in the works since it had a fantastic box office and fans loved it. I would like to see the 3rd movie that Ridley Scott was going to do. I wanna see lead up to the original movie. Also the Android they restored is just another android that looks like the one from Alien kinda like how there were 2 different looking Davids in Covenant.

While I agree that this movie doesn't do a whole lot of new stuff, I think you need to consider that the last movie in this franchise was Alien: Covenant from 2017 and audiences have been craving for a return to formula Alien movie for so long now. In my opinion, that's all this movie needed to be and I think it succeeded in that and in revitalizing the franchise. You can tell that the filmmakers here have so much love and respect for the franchise and this movie is one big love letter to what came before it. However, going forward from here they definitely need to show us something new because if they were to just make a movie like this again that just kind of rehashes things, then it'll start getting stale again.

Why didnt the Xenomorph kill her after it caught her in the elevator shaft? Many people seem to miss this. Its holding her for the face hugger that appeared to the side. Andy kills it then jumps on the Xeno with the assault rifle to kill it. It paused to let the hugger have her. Its kind of a cool twist. This movie is so good. Others have complained about the way Rook looked fake or uncanny valley. I am fairly certain this was very intentional. Since Rook (and Ash from the original Alien) is an artificial person anyway. A damaged unit would appear more artificial as it did in the first Alien. They were both the same models. Science units. Love this movie. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

Kay injecting herself is just a tragic case of lack of information leading to misunderstanding. Kay was completely absent for all the explanations over what's going on, including what the serum does, what it's supposed to do and where it came from. She also has no idea that Andy has been compromised and his recommendations can't necessarily be trusted. Plus Rain tells her to 'take this and get into a cryopod' which can easily be misunderstood as 'take a dose of this and get in the pod' instead of just 'take this with you'. She was bleeding out and terrified for both herself and her baby so she did something she shouldn't have out of fear.

It was alright this movie, and honestly, I just watched it for myself the first time today, but now I am checking to other's reactions to it. but honestly, I was freaked out and way more scared in Alien Convent then this one. And others have freaked me out way more than this movie did. But it was still good worth the wait. The jump scare is alright, it's creepy and gory which is still good and needed. But I don't know, I kind of wish I understood where we are in the timeline, because I know it takes place after Ripley's time with the alien they brought in, in the beginning of the film, but then the face huggers being in those little pods or whatever, it looked like what David the robot did in convent to keep them on the ship. so, I have no clue. But it was creepy enough. But that elevator scene with it catching her with its tale was rather something else. Andy being half good and half bad was new to the plot, but I do like it. Not bad of a reaction.
