This species has the venom potency of a bee or a wasp. Just the size of the "teeth" hurts if you're unlucky enough to get bitten. It's best defense is the hair kicking. Really uncomfortable on the skin, let alone in the eyes or lungs. Nothing to be afraid of. They're not even really defensive. Great species

This is not beautiful, no. Snakes, despite many having a phobia of them, are gorgeous animals. Sharks, gorgeous. Many other dangerous or scary animals, gorgeous. Many creepy crawlies even, or bugs of various kinds, are beautiful in design - wasps and scorpions, etc. These are horrifying. The fear of spiders isn't just remembered fear from when they threatened our ancestors, it is bc they are disgusting and creepy and alien, visually.

@Charmlie.R

This is true of most creatures with defense mechanisms like this, even if they are formidable hunters they have nearly 0 chance of winning a standoff with you. If they get pissy and bite, as much as we tend to be jumpy, we have the opportunity to just crush them with very little effort. We are huge, their bite will be a pain and small setback but our strikes will destroy them. Thats why most creatures like this, wasps or spiders or what have you, tend to only strike when they are very afraid for themselves. They dont want to bite your toes, because you'll just step on them. But if they already think you are stepping on them, they don't have a choice. Thats also why you'll see lots of deterrents like the hairs, things that say 'i dont want to hurt you, because i think I'll be in trouble, but I really dont want to risk you messing with me' Bites and deterrents like this work because inconveniences matter to bigger things. If we have nothing to gain, even if we will be 100% fine, we dont want to get stung by a bee. We'll forget about it in a day or two and yet we regularly find people absolutely terrified to be bitten or stung haha.

In almost every documentary about spiders, there’s that one guy who, no matter how big or poisonous the creature is, has to pick one up with his hand to create a spectacle for the camera and tension for the viewer. What I find remarkable about spiders is that they seem to have comparatively little fear. To me, it’s incredible that such a spider would simply allow itself to be picked up, while much larger animals would be terrified to be so close to a human and would quickly defend themselves. Because of this contradiction, I would never dare to intentionally get close to such an animal.

Arachnophilia thankyou very much for the info. I never buy anything on a whim, i do my research and know everything i can possibly learn before adopting any animal no matter how big or small. I use clay balls for drainage and spring tails in my enclosures that house my acanthoscurria geniculata as she requires damp coco fibre, but i know the therophosa species rely on humidity a lot more than most so i will have a tank with very good ventilation and drainage to help prevent mould, a hydrometre and temp gauge, although they are obviously not needed for most tarantulas, therophosa enclosures need a more steady climate. I use moss in all my enclosures, either dry for decoration, or wet for the ones that require more moisture.
