Thanks, my pinky goes through the same thing as Alexa explained. Only a seasoned teacher can notice it like she did. I have used this hand position for me and also my students. Just looking at the way your flute is pictured, I am assuming that you are talking about the “Rockstro” position which I believe has great benefits that you talk about to free up the fingers to move more efficiently and reduce pain in your body ( the neck especially)

As long as you can press the keys and make it sound the way you want it, then however you have to hold it to make it work for the ergonomics of your body shouldn't matter.
