Do y'all have oysters during the holidays? I personally love 'em for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
@patriotadam40912 жыл бұрын
Always. I typically do Oyster Rockefeller as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. I also do an old fashioned Americana Classic that hasnt been used in a while - mock Turtle soup as my soup

You need to add another layer of oysters and use heavy cream in place of the evaporated milk, with thinner pads of butter, after all its scalloped oysters not scalloped crackers
@Cherryshake Жыл бұрын
My grandmother made this every Thanksgiving and Christmas lunch. She used heavy cream instead of evaporated milk and I think we doubled the oysters. She’s been gone for 12 years and I make this now. I think it’s better with a little squeeze of lemon over the top. The smell of this cooking makes me think of her kitchen at the holidays.❤

This is my memaw‘s recipe, and she made it for Christmas and Thanksgiving forever, and only a small amount of us liked oysters, but it made more for us that did I was actually getting ready to make this for Thanksgiving for a friend of mine but honestly, I don’t have the money to spend on the oysters. We do it without the milk though. We just pour oyster juice over the top. Sometimes I will add a little bit of turkey gravy not turkey gravy, turkey juice. I might also tweak it with a lot more oysters.

I make this in a deeper casserole dish. I also have two layers of oysters and use cream instead ev. Milk. My favorite dish for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This brought back memories of my Momma, she was born and raised in Maryland. We had this for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. I have never seen this prepared in this way before I happened upon your show on KZbin. I live in Colorado now, this is a big treat for the Holidays. I even have the casserole that she always used. Love your show, keep up your good works and Happy Holidays to you and yours. JHC Colorado

I love Oyster Stew! In the 1960’s Campbell’s Soup Co used to make a frozen Oyster Soup or Stew. It came in a can like frozen Orange juice. Do you remember that Paula!? You mixed it with water or milk and it was wonderful. At least I thought so, I was a kid of course. My taste has matured by now. Love your video!❤️

This is very similar to my grandmother's recipe which she taught me. The only difference is she used Ritz crackers. So glad to see this here because it gave me more detail about moisture and cooking time. Also neat to see others having this on their table. We're from North Eastern Cental PA. Thank you for this recipe.

Did not mean the thumb down. I have never used eggs in this recipe, but going to try it this year. Does this give lighter texture?

Yes, oyster stew on Christmas Eve, and oyster dressing on Christmas Day. My Dad loved oysters so Mom made sure they were on the menu. He also liked smoked oysters on saltine crackers, with a dash of hot sauce.

I use 1 sleeve of Ritz crackers, (they're already buttered, )1 pint select oysters, light cream, Worcestershire sauce, oyster liquid and melted butter. Been making this for 45 years for Christmas. It disappears so quickly that I have to make two.

Good morning, y'all. It's been so warm and humid here in Massachusetts for the last week that I wish the a/c's were still in!!! It just broke last night and the weather is more seasonal now. The oyster stew is an interesting recipe. Lots of crackers. Not really a fan of oysters but it has been years since the last time I tried them, and that was in turkey stuffing! Maybe it's time to give them another shot!!

Sorry Terry, what a fiasco was made of this recipe. Way too few oysters relative to the crackers used and all liquids should be combined before pouring over the dish, not added as an afterthought! Bottomline I would make this but certainly NOT following her hap-hazard method!
