I LOVE this informative video!! My french bulldog had a minor accident 7days ago which caused an IVDD flare up. After his vet visit, ex-rays, and blood work we found out that my Tiny 3-year-old franchie has IVDD. His limping improved two days after his minor accident but we noticed he was having these weird episodes where he would stiffen up, start panting with any sudden movement, and twitch. I have been so worried & stressed out seeing him in such distress. I prayed and I had this gut feeling that his dry food was not good for him. So last night I cooked ground beef, steamed potatoes, broccoli, carrots, peas, and celery and let it all cook together with no oils, no salt and immediately I swear his twitch has subsided. DR. Donna is absolutely correct about removing foods that cause inflammation. Im so glad I ran into this channel. This video was so helpful and I look forward in watching all your videos. May God bless you Dr. Donna for the work you do and the educational videos you post for parents like me. I currently reside in greater Houston TX area and have been searching for an a canine acupuncture, and a more holistic vet. Thank You so much!!!!!!!!

My French bull dog x pug has just had his third flare up with paralysis. He was on anti flams and gabapentin for two months slowly weaning off. One thing I did that really helped was lightly tickling his paws on the back legs and he would consciously pull the leg away. I massaged his hind legs and ran my fingers down either side of his spine to tolerance daily. He’s doing really well and is looking to losing 1/4 of his body weight over the next 9 months. He gets a daily walk on a lead. I’d say he’s at 90% normal

I really appreciate your comment! It solidifies my faith that my dog will recover. She currently has hind leg paralysis. Did you need to go to physical therapy? And was your dog incontinent?

PT rehab can make a big difference as well. Muscles may have atrophied during the time when they were less mobile or preexisting weakness in hind end, core, spinal muscles can make them more susceptible to spinal injuries@@andgonito

Accupuncture, Laser Therapy, CBD, A Homeopathic and use of the Assisi Loop has worked like a miracle for my French Bulldog Petey who has a cervical IVDD issue that started out of no where and left him hunched over barely able to look at me. Right after his first accupuncture laser treatment he left the doctors office running out of the door on his first session. He was good throughout the day but later that night it flared up again but the next morning the symptoms cooled down and it was up and down over the long weekend. Then I brought him back on Tuesday for his second treatment which electro accumpuncture was used and he has been doing incredible ever since! Thank you God ! This stuff can work miracles and I'm so thankful for it,

Hello! Wonderful info! Question: What herbs can I use to help heal / protect / strengthen spine and discs?

This was a great video. Watching you work on the bulldog/staffy mix was good. I wish someone like you was available here on the Big Island of Hawaii. The dog didn't flinch once and I could tell you've handled these dogs enough to read them and their feedback well. I've seen some bad videos with well intended people who can not read the dogs face or movements to know they are overdoing things. For now I'm using a Qi Huang TCM formula as the main herbal treatment, but I've combined it with a few other things such as gemmotherapy (ampelopsis veitchii for the spine; Vaccinium vitis idaea for the vitality and kidneys). I'm working with a 14 year old american pitbull terrier and he's rebounded since an injury but clearly has some nerve issues. Thanks again for this video

My 6-month old got ran over by a motorcycle. There are no vets in my region that does spinal realignment surgeries. His T13 was dislocated to the left and he is paralyzed back legs. Is there a way the spine can be realigned without surgery? What can help?

I am not sure. If the spinal injury is severe not even surgery may help. I would suggest an mri even if you need to drive for it. The body can heal with enough rehab and time but it depends on the extent of the injury

My 4 year old Dauschund has developed pain in her neck over the past month and a half. We are on medication but have also started chiropractic and this week will be trying acupuncture. We can't afford surgery so we're praying these non-invasive methods work. She goes from being in extreme pain (yelping and crying) to her neck spasms subsciding and she's waggining her tail. So far she has no issues walking except when she's having extreme spasm episodes. Does this sound like a scenario that acupunture could work?

Yes I believe it's possible, google saslys 3 out of 4 dogs make it. My vet tried to make me believe otherwise and tried to get me to put him down, not happening.

Feelings means the afferent nerves are at least working. The motor nerves may have problems based on what you're describing. I would think careful PT could improve things given that at least the nerves are working in one direction (sensation vs motor).

@LegalTyranny this is a very helpful comment are the motor and sensation nerves interconnected? I hope that wasn't a stupid question 😩 my dog has sensation more in one leg than the other however she can feel when I pinch between her toes as well as feel if I press on her thigh. It also seems she can feel when I lightly struck her legs. However she is not able to move them. She doesn't try and pull the leg away when I pinch in between her toes, she just whimpers in pain. She also is unable to move her tail. I have faith she will recover and doing what I can to help her nerves repair themselves. (Cold laser and massage)

I've read omegas and turmeric is good. Low carb. People seem to be against manufactured dog food but I still do a little of both, I'm not sure if I'm giving a great diet otherwise personally. I give him eggs, chicken, some wet and dry dog food, carrots etc. I think proteins very important for them. And antidetoxents...read her description in the video towards the end it says similar info. Theres a supplement called nzymes that's supposed to be a antidetixant, it's more expensive for me here in canada though.

Hello Thanks for your thoughts and comments! Actually all the dogs with neurologic issues should see their veterinarians for an evaluation. There are many reasons, aside from IVDD, that your dog may have neurologic symptoms--each one with a potential separate treatment.

So the owners decided not to do surgery or it was inoperable? She sd both, so which was it? I feel like maybe it's out of her scope of practice to say that "surgeries" (in general context) doesn't turn out good. she should be emphasizing actual diagnosis has to be established before determining whether surgery will work or not.

Why make a video while wearing a mask? It's disconcerting, not to be able to see a face.

My dog is 5 and was a little slow to jump on the couch for maybe a week and then woke up completely paralyzed in the back legs the day we had her vet appointment. She's strong and was otherwise very healthy. This was about 3 days ago and have been given a few meds but not any real help or direction from the vet we saw. Nothing showing on the X-ray. Don't feel anything on her back either. I'm so lost on what exactly we should be doing... Should she be resting for up to 6 weeks like some videos say or should we start with some kind of physical therapy... I will do anything but give up on her. Her name is Maple and she's a medium sized malinois mix we rescued from the streets 4 years ago.
