I was born in Oldham and it seems that I was eating Hollands stuff since I was a foetus. They were wonderful! They were taken over by a company that destroyed the product. Their Cheese and Onion Pies became Cheese Sauce Pies - no discernible onion. The Meat and Potato Pies became Potato and Meat Pies - thanks EU! The meat in their Meat Pies became a tiny lump of meat stuff in a lot of pastry and the gravy had gone. The Steak and Kidney Puddings are stodgy pastry with gravy and not much substance. We moved to Nigeria, Jersey and America for many years, returning to the East Midlands to retire in 2001. I found Hollands Pies and Puddings at Asda and was dismayed to find that they were actually worse than I remember. They even offered a Chicken Tikka thing. That being said, as bad as they are, we buy Hollands Potato and Meat pies and Steak and Kidney puddings as they are better than anything on offer here in the East Midlands.

I am sure they are absolutely delicious but I am utterly sick and tired at there being such a world of difference between what is shown on the packet and what is inside the product in reality. It is about time something was done to regulate this issue.

Most chippies in my part of Lancashire sell puddings which you'd get with chips and gravy or mushy peas. In Wigan they're known as "babby's yeds" because they look like a baby's head.

OMG, of course it will not have crispy pastry, its a steamed steak and kidney suet pudding !

It's not really pastry like that what you get on pies. It's actually a suet pudding.. Lovley with chips and peas with a couple of rounds of bread and butter.. 😋😋😋

The pastry shouldn’t be claggy. It should be light and fluffy and made using suet.

Sorry but if I’m gonna have a pudding it’s not going to be the savoury sort! “I tried it once but didn’t like it” (Watch Carry on abroad for that joke!)

Hello mate, A big tip, I've been having these for at least the last few years and from day one this is how i cook them and save a fortune, take out how many you want pop on a plate and put in the fridge over night and when you want to eat them get a knife or a pair of scissors and just make a small cut in the foil and then just peel it off and it will come off in one go, then for your microwave at 800 Watts Cook 2 for two-and-a-half minutes and job done and no 40 minutes cooking just the two and a half minute, great as always mate, 🍻🙏

I've not had one of these for at least 20 years but my god the memories, I used to love them.

Hiya Gareth! I have these all the time. Just the comforts of home or an ideal alternative Chippy tea.

I absolutely love these. I've always got a pack in the freezer as they make a tasty meal. As you love your pies Gareth, if you're ever out on the road and anywhere near Bolton, you should call in a Greenhalgh's Bakery. Their Meat and Potato & Steak Pies are incredible. I used to work in Bolton so these were a lunchtime staple. Thankfully, my local butty shop sells them too which is useful. Great video. Happy Easter.👍

I'm so pleased you gave these a thumbs up, watching the build-up was doing my head in as they looked so flippin good, and I LOVE a steak pudding!

Love these puddings. These are god-tier and brilliant with chips, mashed potato, rice, or anything.
