I've had 3 or 4 of the Snipers give me grief with RFI, and it seems to me they all had timing control. It's fun when you bring the engine off idle and it starts doing goofy shit and the little 3.5 touch screen flashes all sorts of red numbers and letters. It shut the fuel pump off during those times. I bet the ground wiring is all to try and fix the shut off issues before you got it. As far as the different race fuels, I've tried a bunch of the different VP fuels like Q-16/CHP/U4.4/VP 113, the most I've seen on the engine dyno was about 12 HP, pretty expensive horsepower. I like the idea of a proper generated fuel table, what I don't like is you can no longer alter it within the handheld, specifically in the light cruise section. Great video as usual, thanks

I'd def love to see a part 2... this is similar to my setup except mines a super sniper with turbo. would def love to see some more sniper tuning stuff. i always tried to tell people, there is such thing as too many grounds lol.. pretty sure I read up on something a while back like "ground loops"??

4 things gave away what a Tard that foxbody owner is; 1: The lug nuts that you showed. 2: Empty gas tank for a dyno session. 3: The mess of wires and gauges stuck on the dash 4: The push start button! He should be driving a Camaro.

I had a sniper recently in my shop that had continuous hanging IAC problems from interference. It was in a tiny engine bay in a 39 Chevrolet and I broke down and snapped ferrite beads on absolutely everything sniper related which finally fixed it. GM HEI distributors are the noisiest electronics I’ve encountered in a while.

I am installing a Sniper on a 1972 olds 442 at work . I have heard about problems with these but I would guess it’s probably due to a poor install . I have read about the sniper being really problematic with rfi interference . I read on a Mustang forum that a guy put a shield between the distributor and the efi unit . We have a salesman at work with a sniper on a 1970 challenger and it’s never really worked correctly . The install I am doing is using all Holley sniper parts Including a tank and ignition system . Hopefully you get things worked out.

i wonder if there is ac voltage leaking from the alternator . stray ac current will pick up on hall type sensors and do weird stuff. as far as the engine shutting itself off. on the topic of the vehicle not picking up as much power as expected from tuning changes in between runs, could that be do to worn engine, like low compression.?

The owner probably started out with the normal number of grounds and started adding grounds to get rid of the shutting off gremlin. The Sniper units are bad about that.

Yup it’s all on my website. Reality is 90% or the cars that have problems, the owners or the cars either don’t know any better or simply don’t care. (Not this car) but i think a lot of problem cars come to be because i will sort through them. Really any shop that tunes an assortment of cars deals with all these problems day to day with the exception of shops that just tune the cars they build or shops that work on newer cars that are minimally modified (as opposed to old clapped out cars that have been Rewired 90 times etc)

EFI can really make these things go haywire. Some folks build a shield by the distributor to block the electrical noise.

Rfi problems, why I switched from one of these snipers to a stealth the ecu being on the throttle body causes a bunch of issues, they seem to work great once insulated against the rfi but I've watched tons of ppl on YT fight these problems

My car is having the same problem with it disconnecting from the ecu I talked to Holley they tried saying it’s the usb wire. After seeing this video and assuming your using your personal cable I’m starting to think that’s not the case since your tuning multiple cars without a issue

Ouch! When a person goes overboard with grounds you can create “ground loops”. And they will defenitely(lol) cause issues from the noise. I ran a 1/0 from th batt to th block(nxt to strtr) to a power dist block on th inner fender. Then a 6ga from there to the body. Everything is grounded to th block. Including the shielding I added to the crank trigger from the dizzy and coil pos and neg wiring from the cdi box(gobs of noise here). 🤔🤔 oh and the whole notion of running the ECU directly to the batt is full on GOSPEL. Totes makes a difference. Apologies for the novel and as always, ur channel ROX! 🤟🏻 celebrate 😂🥳🥳

IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT AS A BUSINESS OWNER YOU MUST TREAT EVERY CUSTOMER LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD ! I AM ASSUMING THAT YOU DID NOT INSTALL THE SNIPER SO WHEN THE CUSTOMER BROUGHT THE CAR HE LEFT YOU WITH ALL OF THE PROBLEMS HE CREATED BY NOT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS. I PERSONALLY HAVE SEEN 20 AND 30 YEAR VETERAN MECHANICS STRAY FROM HOLLEY'S DIRECTIONS AS WELL AS NOT USING APPROVED HOSES AND SENSORS. IF YOU PREPARE PROPERLY A SNIPER CAN BE INSTALLED AND RUNNING IS LESS THAN 5 HOURS AND THAT IS WITH A NEW GAS TANK WITH THE PUMP IN IT ! THAT INSTALL WAS ON A DUAL PLANE INTAKE ! THANK GOD NO WHISTLING OR A NEED FOR A SPACER. BY BY P.O.S. HOLLEY STREET AVENGER CARBURETOR ! NOT ONE OF THE SCREWS ON THE CARB WERE ADJUSTABLE...NOT ONE !

Your communication issues are caused bty RF noise induced by the ignition system either the components(ecu) or wiring are to close source of the noise and causing interference. This is not an easy fix, it also could be the alternator diodes going weak.. The msd coil wiring has 500 volts AC at high frequency a perfect noise source.for example. . When is the Porsche coming with MS3Pro ?
@JoeSimpsonAtTempest
