A few years back I converted my 1974 Olds 350 from its problematic Quadrajet to the Sniper. From web forum posts I learned how to easily modify a computer controlled Olds 307 factory HEI dizzy to accept the Sniper timing control. Very pleased will the overall drivability improvement. I do strongly suggest getting the cable to use a laptop for programming, a progressive linkage kit sold by a Sniper vendor to avoid abrupt light throttle application, and taking advantage of the Sniper timing control function to totally dial in fuel and spark.

I used to daily drive a turbocharged SBC s10 with a home-built blow through holley 750cfm (hp main body), no choke and got good fuel economy even with a stalled th400/9 inch rear. Carburetors are still a viable option if you are willing to put in the necessary work. That being said, being able to adjust air/fuel mix without getting gas all over your hands might be worth the extra money in itself with the sniper. Thanks for the video. My next boosted set-up will probably end up with one of these handling the fuel mixing/spark duties.

Just completed my build. R block 347 with a Novi 2000. I am using a Super Sniper with the Hyperspark setup. I have had zero issues and love the throttle response. For blow thru you have to use an external regulator on the return side and I just removed the internal regulator. I was particular on wiring, wire routing and grounds. I also depinned all unused wires and put in the cavity plugs to keep it weathertight. Most people will not used 50-65% of the wires provided so it’s looks intimidating but it’s not bad to install.

I love that the Sniper gives you the option (with the right distributor) to control the ignition timing! I've read that you can make a custom ignition advance curve/map. The Sniper base tune's ignition curve/map has some sharp transitions that can be smoothed out for better performance. Have you messed with a custom ignition advance curve/map?

@@cobrabuilt I'm getting ready to Super Sniper my 67' Coupe. I'm tired of fluttering the gas pedal until the engine gets a little heat in it to hold it's own idle, and engine pulsing at a stop light about ready to stall. For your Mustang not being a first generation, it does look cool.
@jsimmonstx
@jsimmonstx Жыл бұрын
@@theoutlaw2395 - When you do it, don't get the master kit, because the pump that come s with it is not reliable. Get the basic kit and a new gas tank that supports an in-tank pump. You'll be a lot better off. Also, get the Sniper Stealth. It requires that you also purchase an external pressure regulator, but that's okay because the one in the basic sniper is highly problematic. Most people end up removing them and buying an external one anyway.
@theoutlaw2395

@@jsimmonstx I looked at the Stealth unit and I like the carb look and will get that. I plan on getting the Aeromotive EFI drop in tank for my 67. It has an in tank pump and the electrical and fuel return are at the fuel sending unit. This weekend is the Good Guys show at the Del Mar fair grounds here in the San Diego area. I hope the Holley guys are there to ask a few questions about the Stealth. I saw on Google where a guy gutted his mechanical fuel that gave the look to his Stealth EFI like it was still carbureted. Good weekend to you.

The Holley Sniper is absolutely an excellent piece. Both my brother & I, a few friends also have installed & used several versions of the Sniper & love them. The 650, 1250, with an MSD box, the Hyperspark. No problems. We have also used the Terminator, & Dominator, & we love the Holley EFI systems. Everyone talks about the Terminator & Dominator, so many think the Sniper is much more inferior, & this is not true. & while the other 2 are definitely more advanced, the Sniper isn't entry level by no means. Especially Snipers after 2020. They were definitely gone thru & upgraded from the earlier versions. They are the best out there. Honestly even over the "higher end", triple the price systems. While these are good & have some extra options / configurations, etc etc, which in some real technical situations may be great, but is honestly almost debatable, especially for most out there. Across the board nothing is touching the Holley systems. Also when tuning Sniper thru laptop, go thru & learn the hook up & tuning for Terminator & Dominator. It will matter. Because unfortunately most focus on the other 2, Holley included, & mostly because it's almost expected that those with Sniper will let it self tune for the most part, & so not as much info & effort is put into Sniper info & tuning format. Long story short there are videos to walk you thru this, it's hard to explain in text, just look up everything on the 3 systems. Even with over 20 years experience building high performance engines & doing custom fabrications I learned a few things. Applying Terminator info & tuning thru that format to be applied to Sniper, will allow you to do even more with Sniper. Especially in elaborate engine builds, turbos, external waste gates, superchargers, NOS, etc The Sniper, can be used & ran on a Terminator system. And there's a version of the Sniper comes with the Terminator, or Sniper Terminator X, for a TBI setup. I chose to use the Sniper 1250, yes the TBI, for my twin turbo C4 Corvette. And not to save money, because I have over $100k into this C4 & its only now almost finished. This is a full on custom front to back, & everything has been redone, reworked, etc. But the powerplant is a Dart fully forged 384 Stroker with all the goodies, making 740HP & 835 TQ on only 10 PSI. It hasn't even been broken in yet, nor turned up.

Hey can I use my msd rtr billet distributor and 6al2 box , rpm air gap dual plane ? I’m using an Aed 750 and it’s pretty much spot on after jetting it down a couple jet sizes. What I don’t like about carbs is if you slam on the brakes with the clutch in. Sometimes it’ll cough a little due to the floats. I’m definitely interested in the sniper.

Love the Cobra stickers on the gauges. I am restoring my ‘79 Cobra 5.0 A/C Auto. I want to upgrade performance but retain stock appearance. I have an AOD and 8.8 with 327 gears. Should rebuild the stock motor or order a crate motor? Looking to get at least 300hp and have decided (thanks to your video) to go with the Sniper setup. Any guess as to what the above mentioned setup would run in the 1/4? BTW the in car shots while driving are cool. It looks to accelerate very quickly and handle very tight.

I got the 4150 stealth (better for your typical drop-base air cleaner). Before installing it, I made sure my electrical was 100%. I did NOT use the strap-on O2 bung - I had a bung welded into the exhaust. I didn't need the master kit because I already had an in-tank pump. I already had a MSD 6-AL2 ignition box and a MSD coil, so all I needed was the Hyperspark distributor. I didn't use the (recommended) MSD plug wires. Instead, I'm using Ford Racing wires (almost $100 cheaper). The sniper kit is NOT for your casual car guy (Holley bills it as a DIY kit, but it really isn't). You need to have experience with automotive electrical and fuel systems, as well as sufficient tools and mechanical ability.

I have installed 3 black Holley sniper units. All 3 were replaced because of the same issue. They sprayed the black powder coating inside of the unit. the easiest way to see is to take off the left side cap that the return fuel line connects to. then pull out the diaphragm that's behind it. You will see it has black powder coating inside of it where it is exposed to gas and it will peel. 2 of the 3 just wouldn't run after the screen on the diaphragm clogged the 3rd saw fuel pressure issues and just went WOT on me with zero throttle control, that was scary. If you have a black unit check that out, Holley replaced all mine with a brand new one but they send out a new one with the same issue. I would recommend not getting powder coated units for replacement.

@@cobrabuilt awesome t.y. for replying cause I had people telling me they break after several heat cycles especially Vegas Climate. Your car is very very easy on the eyes , great conclusion & colors too . ✌️

9:55 I do agree people need to pay close attention and follow the instructions when installing these systems. But please don't use solder on wires... ever! lol The problem with using solder in automotive wiring is that solder is super brittle. Brittle material combined with the fact cars vibrate, you're just leaving you're self open to a bunch of "ghost" issues down the line.

I know some people hate butt connectors but I love em, especially the ones with heat shrink

@@cobrabuilt Yes, the ones with the heat shrink work very well. And you're right, there are quite a few people that cringe at the thought of butt connectors. I think most people think about the ones they get at autozone with the hard plastic. Those suck ass lol.

I was like #47 as in 347 😁 that is the lucky number, If I got the gift card I would use it on a set of valve springs because I ordered a kit from falcon and everything was comp cams brand except for the springs, the most important part🤦🏻‍♂️ and it is stopping me from making power over 5700rpm and my cam is good til 6500+ , does your brother have the kinks worked out of his yet? Those hood pins look sweet man 👌🏽 that was a very nice touch that you added to the hood of the car , that thing is just badass anyway you look at it 👍🏼

@@rodneygodin7773 ive got some victor Jr. Knock offs pretty much I bought a set of 210 cc bare procomps ported them and bought my own springs and valves to go in them and ended up with some really good ferrera valves and comp everything else except for the springs and when I saw them all bagged together and cheap looking I should have backed out and ordered a good set but I got in a hurry 🤦🏻‍♂️ man you got the good stuff , if those victor Jrs need a good home they are welcome to move in over here 😂🤣 but yeah I need some springs really bad it made good power at 5700 422.5rwhp " and fell off after that so I know that it is a spring issue, heads and single plane are ported

It takes more than a screwdriver to tune a carb sonny. And there is more bad reviews on the sniper system then good. If the ECU takes a shit you are stranded, unlike a carb you would most likely be able to get home.

What you said is not true at all. It’s like anything in life. People only write bad reviews when they’re pissed and in this situation 9/10 people have a wire hooked up wrong. People never write good reviews because like myself they are happy with the product and continue on with their day. Carbs suck

@@cobrabuilt Carbs have been serving their purpose much longer in time then efi. It takes talent and knowledge to tune any carb on a internal combustion engine. It has been proven on the dyno that a carb can perform as well as efi performance wise when tuned properly. Yes with efi you get easy cold starting. efi has its place. I have even considered🙂 trying a sniper set up, Maybe some day.
