Hollow Knight - Late to the Party Review

I am blown away by the game Hollow Knight has become. This is a true 'metroidvania' game and is one of the best examples of the genre I have ever seen, old or new, and will provide literally dozens of hours of thorough enjoyment to players. The video details why I have reached the conclusions that I have, but if you don't watch the video all the way through - I implore you to buy this game. This is a $15 game on Steam and Switch that I would have gladly paid $60 for and I know that you will love it.
Team Cherry has created something wonderful here while also maintaining pro consumer policy and content, adding new DLC for FREE every few months since release.

@@FortheQuinn Totally agree, I picked it up for 15€ on Switch and given the free dlcs I'm pretty sure its the best videogame deal i've ever seen, especially looking back at how much time I've sunk into it during multiple playthroughs :D

This is an absolutely phenomenal review. Little odd to say you want to avoid spoilers after leading off the video with the culmination of the best joke/character/boss in the game (Zote the Mighty), something I'd want friends who decide to play Hollow Knight to be in the dark about. But seriously this is well scripted, well edited, and I subscribed after watching. Keep up the great work. This is a much better quality review by far than big name game journalism sites have put out in the past.

Magical Turnip well queens gardens was actually part of greenpath but the queen took her half of it, and it became queens gardens.... so yea no wonder they are similar

Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1, Super Metroid, and Hollow Knight are my favourite games at the moment. The score and story told through the atmosphere drags you in to the world. I love that so much in those games.

Shovel Knight is dope. I never beat it but played for a couple hours a good while ago. It got DLC too didnt it? Thats a good suggestion, I will add it to the list of available choices.

I havent played this game, IDK why I just assumed it was another crappy metroidvania clone, but clearly I was wrong. Even if I didnt consider anything you said, based on the video alone this game looks sick af. Now I have to get it. This game is a sleeper hit, I remember hearing about it when it was initially released but it was just a blip on the radar. Its so incredibly good, I really was taken aback by how long and how well this kept me engaged.

I like your video. I love Metroidvania games. Ori I unfortunately have not got around to playing since I don't have my xbox one right now. I did pre order Hollow knight Voidheart edition though last night. On the ps4. Normally I prefer to play these games portably but It will still be a long time before I can get a switch due to some things that recently game up. So thanks for the review.

If you like metroidvanias then this is the easiest recommendation I could ever make. This is right up there with my favorites in the genre, I hope to god it gets some sort of sequel or that Team Cherry atleast makes another game like it.

Trying to decide between this, Celeste and Dead Cells as my first indie titles for my new Switch. I think the answer is all three. Lol. HK looks amazing. They all do. Are you a fan of Dead Cells?

I love both. Celeste puts me off because I suck at platformers, but I absolutely love Hollow Knight and Dead Cells is a very good game but the fact that dying puts you back at the beginning means I only play the game here or there, rather than most of the time like Hollow Knight.

It's probably obvious from the video, but I highly recommend it. Even if it doesnt quite seem like your cup of tea, emphatically believe it will win you over. Just give it more than the first 1 or 2 hours, they are still fun but just a little blander than the actual game is.

Yeah I beat route A and ended up walking away about halfway through the 9S playthrough. I know, I know - the game doesnt fully open up till the 3rd or 4th completion, I do plan on going back to finish it. There are certain design choices I didnt like, but the sword play is super fun and I am all about existential crisis material so soon I swear I will finish it!
