Late to the Party Review - Ghost Recon: Wildlands (Updated Audio)

Games change a lot during their life cycles. Because of this I am creating a series of reviews for older games that I either missed at release or have changed a lot during their time. More than anything, its an excuse for me to talk about games that strike my fancy either for better or for worse.
First up to bat is Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, available on sale from Ubisoft for about 20 bucks. The video covers my thoughts on the title and the experience I had with it. I really hope this is something you guys like and if there are ANY games that you want to see make the list specifically, please let me know in the comments. I'd be very eager to try as many things as possible!

As someone who put over 50 hours into this game because of how fun it is it’s great to see it getting recognition, I know I’m late to this video by 4 years but it’s a great game and I still play it, the tier 1 update they brought in has brought me back to the game to get to tier one

Yeah man I thought so. The entire reason I decided to do it was because I couldnt find anything reliable for myself that covered post launch changes. The next one is going to be one of the first times I move away from Ubisoft games though and I am curious how many people will still be interested. Hopefully they like some of it!

You are onto something foreal!! This is the first video I ever watched by you and subscribed immediately!! Nowadays so many games have bad launches and end up receiving really bad reviews so u can’t risk your $70+ on them. These Late to Party videos are incredibly useful. I’ve been keeping my eye on Wildlands and For Honor for some time now and I’m glad the creators have put the time and resources into fixing them. Your videos are a valuable source of information on what these games have become!!

I am working on a Late to the Party video right now but they get so few views that its kinda discouraging but I do think they are the most necessary of the videos I make. Thanks alot for commenting your support. Also, I think that For Honor has a free version now that gives you some basic knights and such to start with. If its still free I would definitely give it a whirl atleast. Its a wierd game but has a die hard sect of gamers that love it and play everyday.

I’ve put around 8 hours into this game so far and don’t regret buying it on sale (thanks PlayStation store). I totally agree in going for the harder difficulty. I like the game in advanced rather than regular and you usually start with stealth and then you switch to the offensive, using squad commands to get your group (I don’t have people I know who I can play with, so I’m talking about AI) to move with you so they don’t die immediately. The one death rule in which the AI can revive you once is also a good addition, as usually the transition for me between stealth and offensive would be getting spotted and killed without being able to do anything about it. The driving isn’t that good and I’d agree it’s worth buying. Missions aren’t complex, though, so you almost certainly need to go for at least advanced to make it worth your time. Haven’t been able to try ghost wars but I want to get some skill playing in single player before I start getting called a faggot by a try-hard 14yo. Nice channel btw I’ve been subbed for about 2 months, and this channel is criminally underrated, and hardcore/casual gamers alike would like this channel.( I don’t think I’d k myself a hardcore gamer, my computer only just got a video card that’s 1gb ram, before it was only 512mb ram and didn’t even need a secondary power source)Nice vid and in-depth review 👍

He didnt mention the hacker problem when talking about ghost wars, I play on xbox and it feels like every other game i join someones either walling using godmode or speed hacks it was a fun gamemode when it launched but it quickly fell from grace into a sweat fest atleast thats how it feells

Lol I hear you, those are definitely alot of the same reason I disliked elements of it. The similarity between all enemies and the driving are huge pet peeves of mine. That being said there were still plenty of things I DID like, so while its definitely not a perfect game (like, at all) I still had a pretty good time with it and its long af, so people who need an enjoyable time sink can jump in and out easily. What did you think of the multiplayer?

Fallen ghost is fantastic and more challenging than the main game what I don't understand is why Ubisoft decide to put this dlc totally separate from the main game map they should put this dlc like any open world dlc is so puzzling to me that they go that route

"With draw distances that go on seemingly forever" sounds like someone never tried to do any sniping beyond 100-200 meters.. Here's a tip, after 300 to 400+ things go low fy very quickly and beyond 500 meters the game stop rendering them. "forever" is trying to sell it a bit too much man sorry to say. The draw distance is worse in some aspects to GTA5 because as I recall GTA5 allowed you to focus and zoom in on long range targets and the game would render just that area.

Heres a tip, turn your advanced blur settings down and then mark targets using your drone. You will be able to see enemies at nearly a kilometer and be able to shoot accurately from it too. There are plenty of records set for longest snipe in game and some of them are close to 2 kilometers.

Also, ofcourse I didnt mean that draw distance is removed as an element and the game will render the entire map in real time. It's more a figure of speech to indicate players wont be seeing texture pop in or foilage phasing, which is better than a lot of games, GTA among them.

Yep I'm quite aware of how the players have to literally game the engine in order to get enemies to spawn or to not depopulate, trust me I already knew that, thanks though. There's nothing like watching your round just vanish mid flight because to engine can't handle long range without another player to keep the NPCs in place. Even with a partner the actual effectiveness of said trick is iffy at best, you still can't see the NPCs even when marked, you normally can only see your ally's FFI tag and you use that as your point of impact. After that it's just a matter of walking the rounds in, even then the coop partner can watch the rounds vanish mid flight then suddenly you'll get a quite splash somewhere around you. That's not what I would call a working example. Then use different wordage, a game that has such sprawling landscapes you can easily see areas popping in and out of existence even on max settings and maxed out draw distance settings (which I had the entire time). It sounds too much like you're overselling the title and yes GTA5 is old and yes it has it's limitations however the example that I used is still quite valid a 2013 game can render NPCs and such out to extreme range and a game released in 2017 cannot. It's fine if you felt it was good enough but really man don't try so hard, this video just happened to show up in my YT suggestions. Just saying man, Wildlands isn't all that great by comparison to older titles.

Yeah, I am sorry if it seems like I am being confrontational, that isnt my intention. I spent about 20 minutes the first time I booted the game re-configuring graphic settings in game and in nVidia control panel and never experienced anything like pop in. The blur and depth of field settings dont do the draw distances favors but they exist to smooth out the visuals on low to medium set up so I disabled them entirely and never looked back. I know that there exist methods to game the engine through use of spotting partners so - perhaps its worthwhile for me to discard the most extreme ranges people have acheived, but my longest recorded in-game kill is from 513m and thats still a pretty significant distance to render, better than most even. That was without me even having draw distances in mind so I dont know how much further I could have achieved, thats something I will test after I get off work and report back. If it sounded like I am overselling the game then maybe I do need to take a more analytical look at what I have said, but I think I spoke pretty harshly and truthfully about the 'sameness' that plagues the game all the way from missions to skill trees and certain other mechanical issues. I certainly think the game has significant flaws in these type of design decisions but I really dont think it deserves to catch flak for what they achieved graphically. A map that is 30 square kilometers and truly seamless is a technical marvel in of its self and the draw distances in it really are better than industry standards in other AAA games - even from the same publisher. Idk, I thought the review was pretty on the nose - but its the first real one I have ever done so its very likely that youre right and my language is hyperbolic. I am not willing to concede that yet but it is something I will get some opinions on. Anyway, I didnt want it to seem like I was squashing valid discussion, I just had a different experience with the view distances.

It's fine man, I just know a moderate amount about the game, grinded it to death getting to Tier 1 but the draw distance it as always bothered me. They try and make Wildlands out to be some long range sniping paradise then in reality all you're really able to do is like 400 meter shots. Not to mention the lack of any real long range optics, all are maxed out at 6x which isn't much. Not even going to mention the extreme bullet drop beyond 150-200 meters. Tagging enemies with the drone helps but again limitations of the tagging system make it difficult as anything beyond... like 50 to 100 meters from where the drone is. Even maxed out upgrades, and it can't mark NPCs beyond that point. Then once you go back to your character at times the tags vanish as do the NPCs that you marked. It was fun at times but I always felt like ehhh.. Wildlands could have been better, quite frankly a lot better but they kinda gave up on the coop and singleplayer for the multiplayer so. Yeah I know they introduced what.. 2 who "missions" but honestly they weren't nothing to write home about. Anyway, no don't worry no real confrontation here just sharing ideas and letting you know how the game acts, take care.
