19:00 it’s noted that the invisibility serum makes the animals more aggressive the longer they’re invisible. It was thought to be a side effect of the serum. Now I realise it’s because they can’t sleep. Very interesting view. Never thought of that before.

I friggin LOVE this move and I agree it’s massively underrated. Kevin Bacon is so good as The Invisible (Hollow) Man. I was legit scared of this movie when I watched it as a 13 year old (Another movie my parents probably shouldn’t of let me watch at that age LOL)…. Edit: Josh Brolin is in this movie and he’s also damn good in it and Elizabeth Shue is fantastic as Linda McKay. Greg Gunberg is in this movie as well.

17:30 good one. I finally saw this film a few months ago, I'd seen the original and the latest remake but never this one. I really enjoyed it, it felt in line with things like Cronenberg's The Fly or those various other 80's remakes of classic sci-fi films that leaned more into body horror than the originals did. I love Claude Rains' performance in the original, his voice is iconic and he's probably for me the earliest example of a supervillain in film, but he gives a very grandiose performance fitting for that time, whereas Kevin Bacon's more understated unhinged performance I think is a great contrast, he's got charisma early on to where you buy people tolerating him, but then he pulls off the unhinged switch really well. I also like that Kevin Bacon is a bit closer to the Invisible Man in the original book, in the sense that it isn't the chemicals affecting his mind like in the original film, he just is a bad person who once turned invisible is able to unleash his inner most desires, no matter how unhinged or diabolical they are. My only real issues are with the third act, Kevin Bacon gets so much thrown at him that he should've died far earlier from the various injuries he sustains, especially when he's set on fire. I also felt that some of the deaths were fairly predictable or could have been set up better, which mainly frustrated me since they're all scientists who are aware of what they are up against, yet things like the dangers of splitting up or not keeping an eye on their surroundings or each other goes overlooked by them at convenient times. Mainly just the first scientist death is what bugged me in that sense. I don't know if its my favorite version of this story, the latest version I think was easily the best version in terms of portraying how scary the concept of the Invisible Man is, but I do think it's a solid 'modern' version, in fact all three versions all have their merits. Its films like this or The Fly that to me show how you can make a supervillain film, and I really wish studios these days would take note of that especially with all those crappy films about villains where they're turned into anti-heroes instead.

Even as a kid seeing this movie on TV and the imagery, i always liked it. Especially with Kevin Bacon in the role, this film is always one I think about when his name comes to mind. And can we talk about the CGI in the film. It is used creatively and it might look slightly aged, but it still works. I think it is due to some type of uncanny valley. That what we are seeing is very unnatural so the effects just feel and look good. It’s weird as this film was always play on cable television, almost every day. Definitely interested me enough to rewatch it as I haven’t seen it a good minute.

This is one of my favorite films of all-time and I watched it for the first time in 2022. I prefer it to Leigh Whinnel’s “Invisible Man”. I feel like “Hollow Man” really dives into domestic fears that a lot of us have and I love the special effects and they age pretty damn well.😊😊😊. Thank you for this gift Cody! This movie is the shit! This movie makes me afraid to live alone because of Sebastian being a invisible sexual predator😬. They really made a great commentary on toxic masculinity and the shadow self. This movie really pushed the limits and took some risks especially for 2000.

Ah, the era of Kevin Bacon bad guy type casting. From River Wild to Sleepers to this, it's when I came close to not caring for the actor anymore because he was playing such despicable characters.. I do appreciate the effects, the exploration of our moral compass, and the don't give a fuck attitude, but Cody VERY accurately hit the nail on the head about people mentally checking out. The sexual assult scene was bad enough, but the hardest thing for me to watch is animal cruelty, so yeah, the scene with the dog is where I kind of checked out. Cody, as always, very intelligent review, and the mixed section helped me know I wasn't silly for my thoughts on the film. I respect the balls the film had, but I am never that anxious to rewatch this one.

Hey Cody, I came across this review and am a big Kevin Bacon fan and love "The Invisable Man," so I bought a copy and LOVED this movie. It is so underrated, and I can't understand why. I feel the effects are on par with Terminator 2. I also love Kevin Bacon because he does a great job in playing both charismatic and evil people, and he killed it with playing this slimy S.O.B. I love the movie "Stir of Echos" with Kevin Bacon and would highly recommend it to anyone. It came out in 1999, the same year as the "Sixth Sense," and actually enjoys Stir of Echos more. Thanks so much for the review, I love it when you review the lesser known movies because sometimes those are the best. I loved "Frailty" thanks to your recommendation.
