I have to admit this one really affects me deeply. When I listen to this I can really start to understand why people love Minami so much. Every single thing about this song from the message to the music to the video itself to, naturally, the amazing singing is just so powerful. Even the guitar playing is just amazing. Normally I can't listen to the same song so much in a single day, but this one just gets me.
@FanZ2626
@FanZ2626 5 жыл бұрын
Could you maybe explain what you think the message is? I feel like I'm very close to understanding it, something about the fear of becoming a false persona and forgetting who you really are, I think, but I'm not quite sure. Whatever way I try to look at it it feels like a few pieces don't quite fit. I can feel the emotion and the song's well-sung, but I feel like this could really be one of my favorites if I could better understand what the lyrics are about.
@NazoKiyoubinbou
@NazoKiyoubinbou 5 жыл бұрын
@@FanZ2626 Well, I could be entirely wrong. I'm just saying how it feels to me. It may even be somewhat up to interpretation, though this one seems much more direct and clear than most. What you said is pretty close. This one speaks to me because it's something I've dealt with in life and seen so many others *not* deal with. We feel disliked or even hated by others because they expect certain things. So we build a persona -- a doppelganger to replace us in public (or I like the metaphor of a mask a bit better) -- to make these people like us. In so doing we create a version of ourselves that must lie and do things we hate just to try to be liked. Rather than just simply forgetting though, I think most people ultimately are simply taken over by that doppelganger. They *become* the image of themselves with all the lies, even sometimes hate. Not just forgetting that it's supposed to be in image, but actually truly starting to believe all the stuff they said and did. (But then to some extent I suppose some may still know deep down inside it's wrong, however, they can't admit it at this point.) I believe this is the danger inherent to the entire process. Now, I did this too. I probably wasn't as good at is as many people, but I always hated my doppelganger -- or mask or whatever. And this, to me, speaks to the way at the end of the song and video she's screaming that she doesn't want this. Not to mention the obvious self-loathing and self-destruction at the end. I think that is the fight in having to eliminate only one and the difficulty in actually doing so.
@FanZ2626
@FanZ2626 5 жыл бұрын
@@NazoKiyoubinbou I see. You’re probably about right, I was thinking it was probably something like that, although I still can’t quite seem to fit the lyrics and/or visuals into a very cohesive narrative. That may just be partly the imperfections of translation and partly the fact that most song lyrics don’t make much literal sense. But I think I, in particular, have a hard time identifying with that message, and am thrown off by what this song seems to mean by “my ideal reflection”, because I have my own personal anxieties and doubts related to imposter syndrome, but in my case it’s more about feeling like I fail to live up to the confidence and competence I try to present myself with than like I’m acting like a different person than my true self. That is, I often feel like a stupid child who’s trying his best to pretend to be a competent adult. Both issues have a sense of guilt that you’re deceiving others with a mask that’s different than the truth, but in my case the “ideal self” that I try to act like is the kind of person I really want to be, still me but just better and stronger and more mature, and I would consider my internal perception changing to match that persona to be a good thing. But the feeling this song seems to portray and that you’ve talked about seems to be more about acting like someone sideways of yourself, different enough that becoming that act would feel like betraying and/or abandoning who you previously were, and without necessarily being an overall improvement. I don’t know whether either issue is better or worse to be dealing with than the other; but it is interesting to think about how many different ways there are to be dissatisfied with yourself. On the other hand, you could argue that that dissatisfaction reflects a drive for self-improvement that pushes you to understand yourself better and grow as a person, so maybe it’s not all bad.

@@FanZ2626 Perhaps I can help on clarifying at least what it means to me by the "ideal reflection." We don't just create these masks or images of ourselves. The whole goal is to not be hated -- even to be loved (because deep down inside even the most antisocial hermit still hates to be hated and wants to be loved, just has probably basically given up.) The image must reflect what seems "perfect" to these others. That can include some really bad tendencies out of necessity however. For example, it seems to me that the singer is upset that the image presented to not be hated by others must gossip in the worst sorts of ways -- promoting oneself by putting others down. No doubt recognizing this for the horrible and hateful thing that it is, they want this to stop but can't escape the situation. Though there are a number of different directions this could go, the basic gist of it is that the image created is to try to please others but isn't really you, so I don't think that specific part should be taken entirely too literally as I think it is meant to reference this entire sort of thing instead of one exactly specific instance. I've had my own share of anxieties in no small part arising from never being as good at creating that fake image as many are. Not conforming in anything and everything makes one automatically hated. As should be clear even just by the music I listen to, I never was very good at conforming sufficiently. But it isn't just a matter of accepting yourself. A sort of balance has to be reached. For most this is, perhaps, a little easier since they don't have as far to reach, but for those of us who are this far out it is a constant struggle. It would be all too easy to go too far one way or the other and either become a shut-in or to have the "ideal reflection" take over and not really even be able to live your own life anymore.
@FanZ2626
@FanZ2626 5 жыл бұрын
@@NazoKiyoubinbou That all makes sense. In my own case, I've never been willing to do anything I thought was wrong or completely fake for the sake of fitting in, although I've also never faced much pressure to do so; probably partly because I seem to have been lucky enough to grow up mainly around nice people, and partly because I've always been a shy introvert who kept to a very small social circle and was mostly content with that. I don't know if I would have acted differently if I'd encountered more actual rejection; I've never believed that I SHOULD care what other people think of me, but I've realized that despite that a large part of me DOES care a lot. That seems to be a deeply ingrained instinct for most of humanity, and for sensible evolutionary reasons, since many early humans lived in small tribes wherein social rejection could literally get you killed; check out the "Wait but why" article "Taming the Mammoth" for an interesting discussion of the topic of the human social insecurity instinct and possible strategies for dealing with it. In any case, although I'm hardly an expert, I think humanity is big and diverse enough today for anyone to find people who will accept them without needing to try to conform, so it's just a matter of finding them. Easier said than done, sure; but the modern world, especially the internet, DOES at least make it easier for people to connect with one another than ever before.

English isn't my native language, I personally started to learn it like 2 years ago on my own and by now I can say for sure that my English grammar is kinda better than grammar of my mother tongue and I even can explain why I write something in English the way I wrote it and often I can't do the same when it comes to my native language, I really remember grammar points while my mother tongue... This song is so deep. We kill ourselves to fit in with others, satisfy others, and this process starts to create a new me. My understanding of this song. The girl in the white one-piece is the original girl. In order to fit in with others, she started to act differently, which created the new her; the girl in the black one-piece. This led her to create two personalities: The real her(white one-piece) and the fake her(black one-piece). Slowly, she loses her understanding of herself. She doesn't know if she was the "real" her or not. The "fake" girl took over and became the "original". The "real" girl was then trapped inside the "fake" girl. She attempts to gain herself back by killing the other "her", as shown towards the end. However, the image changes to the "real" girl getting choked by someone(probably the "fake"). Then, it switches back and forth until the "real" and "fake" girls are shown choking themselves. The "real" girl thought that by "killing" the "fake" girl, she can become herself again. But in the end, she ended up killing herself. Though we try to act differently to superficially satisfy others and blend into a larger group, it is only killing our true emotions and hiding them away, deep inside ourselves. What an accurate representation of society. This was very sad yet it was so relatable and beautiful. I love Minami san. Edit: Thank you all for all the likes. I didn't know so many people would like my comment. I just wanted to add something. To everybody reading this, I love you. And I promise you, more people out there love you too. You may think not, but you matter. Please be who you are. Please be who you want to be. Because that's what makes us unique individuals. It is never, ever wrong to be different. People shouldn't tell you who you have to be. That is for you to decide. No matter where you're from, who you used to be, who you are right now, or who you want to be, I love you. From the bottom of my heart, I hope that all of you have a happy day tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and forever on. Even though I'm a complete stranger, and you don't know who I am, please know that I deeply care about you. I hope this comment was able to make you smile and give you hope. :)

in my opinion, the black and white version of them is the real one. Why you create those new personality? coz your current personality created it and thus, it's also considered your real personality. LIke, when your personality changed when something happen. some people may say that you're not ur usual self and told you to be what you used to be. Because in your new personality, you tend to lie so you can blend in to the community. But in truth, those personality is actually your 'True' self. Coz your previous personality have met a certain condition that trigger the creation of this new personality. Why get confused at both of your personality? In the end, both of them are 'You'. 'We are what we are'. Even if your personality change, the one who trigger that change is your previous personality. Why should you get so confused thinking about it? sorry if i'm wrong.

@@Vorltzs dont be sorry bro everyone has hes own vision, for me what you said is true but when the condition that made you changed is very trivial and dont deserve to change then its a problem. 4 me if i changed for real reason then there is no fake side of me i just improved but if i have 2 of me, one is the real that i act when am home and with my self and another i act when I'm with fake friends or people i dont like so i do everything to make them dont go away from me because i need, want friends this is the problem so when i try to dont go with these guys or something like that i cant cause i did this for years so i cant go back now to my real one and if i did, ill lose a lot of good things cause my fake side has a good things even if its 2 or 3 it still that ill lose them. Sry 4 my poor english

@@volvy1 in the end, that's not really your fake self. You just created another category(not sure what to call it). And so, your list of categories will be: -friend -foe -family -(the new category(?)) How you act will differ to what category that person is in. So, is that really your fake self? And, i think it's not right(or rude?) calling your personality as 'Fake'.

@@Vorltzs I agree with you, a new personality appears because the experiencies you live change yourself. Although you realize that is not how you wanna be it is part of you. It is not fake or real it's all you. You can like it more or less, but this is what you are and you are in permament change. Anyways I love the vision of this song.
